I am super happy with the service I received from this long time neighborhood business. I live around the corner from the shop and needed to replace two old window units ( that I bought from Sears years and years ago; my whole life I bought all my appliances from Sears). I went to Radioland to buy the new A/Cs, the owner said he wanted to come by the house and take a look. He did that a couple of days later, checked the room, the units and the outlets, told me both units are smaller than he would normally recommend but also told me that one might be repairable and could be moved to a different room and I would only need to buy one A/C. He came another day and cleaned up the old A/C and it worked fine after that. I then went back to the store, bought my new A/C on a Friday and he came and installed it the next Monday (and moved the old A/C to a different room and took away the one that was there). Yes, it involved a few trips to the store (around the corner) and I could see this is not for everyone; some folks might prefer to just drive to Best Buy or Home Depot pick out an A/C and arrange for it to be shipped installed in one trip. But for me this is perfect and gave me great peace of mind. I don't drive, hate dealing with shipping and arranging installation/removal. This was a very comfortable process for me where I ended up with a quality product, professional installation and was sold the product I needed, not something I didn't. This is about as local as a business can get. The couple has been running the place forever and I enjoy supporting them. I understand some of the other complaints posted here (though I've never encountered the prejudiced behavior some mention), but it's pretty clear as soon as you walk into this place that you're not going to get super corporate attitude/service. It's just a small shop run by honest people who know how to work on some older technologies (as well as current ones). And, by the way, the rates are DIRT cheap! read more

I have read the reviews on here, AND I have utilized the services of Radioland. I'll try to summarise key issues: 1) The main guy (older gentleman -- and it is ALL about him always -- in the store, on the job, etc) has been doing this for many years. He absolutely will "lecture" you and go on and on and on and on about the right way to care for A/C and so on. And with good reason: MOST of his clients are also 80 years old (the neighborhood skews older though has been getting younger past decade), so most clients look forward to someone *ANYONE* to gab with. 3-stars; annoying. 2) Every 5 minutes, I am not kidding, he needed something... a cleaning spray, or a garbage bag or a comment about needing access to a plug, and onwards. 1 star annoying. LEAVE ME THE F alone -- I am payinig you to get the job done. 3) He is set in his ways. It is HIS way or no other way. "This is how you need to take care of your air conditioner. now, listen to another thing..." SHUT THE F UP. People do not want to hear this "lecture". He talks as if you have NOTHING​ else to do -- because (see #1 above), many of his clients do not. Unfortunately​, there are not many air conditioner repair/cleaners around, so if you can grin and bear it = go for it. Or maybe buy a new one from Amazon and pray they don't send you him to install. read more

Some 50 years ago, my brother Howard was studying in Taipei, Taiwan, and he gifted my parents with a pair of exquisite marble lamps. When I tried to switch on the lamp the other day, no luck. So I brought it into Radioland. As it turned out, when the lamp had been rewired some ten years ago, in some other place, everything was done slap-dash, with short-cuts, wrong parts, etc. The owner told me he'd charge me $30 to make all of the changes necessary to return the lamp to pristine condition. A few days later, I was amazed as he led me through the process of renewing this family heirloom. Trying to support local businesses, I stopped into Radioland when my air conditioner was on the fritz. Two days later, a service tech came to my apartment. He was friendly and knowledgeable BUT he lectured me like a high school teacher. I guess he was trying to be informative about the incorrect prior installation but he was so condescending. I have had some very good dealings with this store. Joel, the owner, is extremely honest, and reliable. He has serviced my air conditioners in the past, and when my flat screen TV from 2005 has it's last gasp, I will ask him to install a new, slighter larger flat screen TV. His prices are very fair, and I have always felt he treated me with respect and dignity. I never got the impression he was trying to sell me something that I didn't need. Had brackets installed on my air conditioners Joel and Larry did the bracket installations. They were courteous, quick, tidy and just as important, knowledgeable and honest. Joel confirmed the quotes I had received over the phone. During the installation Joel explained in detail what the install entailed and pointed outed some key information about the mounting and my model of Air conditioners. I am extremely happy with the service they provided and will use them again. Just a note to those who may misconstrued Lecture for passion; Joel and Larry are old school. When you love and enjoy what you are doing and your an SME (Subject matter expert) you tend to want to share and educate your customer. - I enjoy the old school approach especially the High Quality of work and attention to detail. read more

He services our units years, always sliding out the unit from the housing, cleaning every part inside, and repairing any necessary parts. He has been in the business for a long time and keeps up with new models. He just installed a super quiet unit for us with remote and wifi that also works with google home and amazon alexa. I have used this service for a least 15 years. The owner (Technician) is knowledgeable and rather terse. I appreciate his honesty and ability. As for lecturing, etc., I find it amusing and do not take it too seriously. To sum up, he does the job and is reliable. That is all I ask for. read more

Tradition Service, I ask Joe (the owner) to help to clean two window A/C in time for Summer. The A/C were a few years used and the build up was intense. I dropped them off and they were spotless which saved me several hundred dollars. This was more than 5 years ago and he is still going strong. You have to catch him early in the season (Feb,March) since he is in high demand in the Riverdale section. You will find dozens of Coops with thousands of A/C units. Unfortunately, there are not people that Joe's character left. I wish many many many years of service as he is a staple to this community. read more

TERRIBLE. Incredibly, incredibly annoying guy. Our building referred us to him to take out/reinstall our AC's, and we tolerated multiple visits. (Our building required proper installation with brackets-- which is totally reasonable-- and we didn't have a lot of options for an installer.) But good Lord-- this man is awful. We will never, ever give him our business again. Condescending and sexist. Seems to almost intentionally make things difficult and unpleasant. Yes, he can put an AC in the window and take one out-- that earns one star. But take my advice and find someone else. Anyone else, really. You're bound to do better. read more

We asked Radioland to come in and service our 7 wall units. The prices they quoted us were substantially better than we'd seen with others. They serviced six units and recommended replacing one old and poorly maintained unit, which we did. The new unit, which we bought from Radioland and which they installed the next day, was well-priced and has been running great all Summer, as have the other 6 units they worked on. If you want honest and knowledgeable technicians with quality workmanship at a reasonable price, call the guys at Radioland. read more

I paid $60 for a service call from this company and basically got nothing from it. The suggestion was to buy a new air conditioner, if not now, soon. And try spraying some Lysol. The repair person didn't bother to explain the problem to me or even tell me that it could be fixed. Honestly I don't think he even knew.
