This is one of the coolest places! According to information posted at the site, Radium Springs is considered one of Georgia's Seven Natural Wonders. The water source is an underground cave which pumps 68-degree water year round. A courtyard and garden sit where a casino once stood. The casino was built in the 1920s, overlooking the spring, making it a popular spot for travelers making their way to Florida. The Flint River flood of 1994 resulted in severe damage to the casino, requiring it to eventually be demolished. The spring water eventually makes its way to the Flint River. Not only can you feel the history surrounding this place, it would also be a neat place to kayak into from the Flint.

When I first discovered Georgia has a 'Seven Natural Wonders' list, I made it my goal to see all of them with my family. So far we've visited five and this was the first one to leave me a little disappointed. HIGHLIGHTS --- The color of the water is a fascinating layering of blues. If the tree that shadows over the viewing area wasn't so large as to block sunlight, you might actually be able to see clean through the cavern because the water is so clear. --- The gardens are a simple yet beautifully elegant use of native plantings. --- The observation deck allows different views of the wetland area. --- The nearby park and lawn area looks like a great place to spend time throwing a frisbee or relaxing on a blanket. --- Extensive family photo opportunities --- Peaceful, quiet, serene. Pictures don't do it justice! Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH9Z3iuEeBw FACTS * It is the largest natural spring in the state of Georgia * The spring flows at a rate of 70,000 gallons per minute * It has a consistent temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit year-round * The spring is part of an extensive underwater cavern system * There was once a casino and resort spa located here * Access to the springs closes @ 5pm daily. We were not aware of this and had to return the following day which killed my opportunity to drive an alternate way home to include Warm Springs, one of only two remaining 'Wonders' on our agenda. The "Casino" area wasn't much to see. I think this space would have been better served as a visitor center where it could have recreated the look of the original building on a smaller scale. Old photos, footage and artifacts from more popular times would have made the connection here much more interesting. Not to mention the radium craze that swept the country in the early 1900's would add some real spice to the history (I wish I had room to detail it for you in this review). THE VERDICT Although not as spectacular as many of the other "Natural Wonders", if you couple your visit here with other area attractions it makes for a nice afternoon. Our family wasn't as wow'd as I thought we would be, but I can certainly appreciate city & local association efforts to restore Radium Springs to its former glory. I suppose what I didn't like most was the water near the spring looks swampy and not quite as clean and picturesque as it did in some old pics I found online. It's kinda hard to believe this was a very popular swimming hole back in its heyday. There was once a beach here that is still detectable through the overgrowth. My biggest complaints would be the information plaques could use a refreshing and overall, the white iron gate that surrounds the entrance for some reason made me feel like I was entering the courtyard of an insane asylum... LOL!!! It just has that sort of vibe. Overall I'd still say it's worthy of visit, but could be so much better.

Just a cool photo I took there.

Beautiful and peaceful! I went first thing in the morning and I was the only person there. Definitely the peaceful, calm vibe I wanted.

This library has such potential because it's massive. I get it, it's a public place but it smells…read morelike straight up urine and is a meeting ground for the homeless in the lobby. The staff are super sweet but I wish the cleanliness of the place was well kept. I just felt gross in there the entire time. Book selection is okay. Everything kinda seemed all over the place but it is what it is.

It is a fairly good library located in the heart of the downtown area. I've been coming to this…read morelibrary for many years and it has gone through some major renovations. Now it looks better than ever. Most of the time I come here whenever I have to accomplish a research paper or project for school, but I do visit to read and check out books on occasion.Upon scrolling through some of my photographs I know that I don't look like the bookworm type of person based on my hideous black ugly-looking face, but I do enjoy reading and learning about things. I especially enjoy reading mind-stimulating books, encyclopedias, and historical books about the past. You can never have too much knowledge. The library is quiet most of the time but sometimes women will bring their young children with them and it can really disturb my studying. I wish that some of the mothers would take better control of their kids. Damn bad ass kids keeping up all that noise and shit. If they were my kids I'd put a good old fashioned leather belt to their behinds. Anyway, as far as parking is concerned, the library does have a small but cramped parking lot. There is also free street parking for up to two hours. After two hours it is recommended that you get a pass from the circulation desk to avoid getting ticketed. However, the parking rule is rarely enforced so you may get away with it on most days.
