I had Alec's Machine Shop disassemble a pair of vintage 1976 Harley Davidson Shovelheads from my original numbers matching Police Special FLH. While inspecting the heads, minus the valves, springs, and valve guides, I noticed the guide "boss" hole on the rear head, looked "beat-up." Upon closer inspection and measurements, it was blatantly evident the "engine builder" neglected to remove the heavy carbon deposits from the portion of the valve guide behind the valve. He hit the front head exhaust guide with such violence while trying to remove it from the head, that it broke a third of the guide right off, and then actually managed to drive the rear head guide (with all the heavy carbon deposits still attached), through the aluminum guide hole boss, tearing up the hole and rendering the damage beyond viable repair. My initial phone call to Alberto (company phone-answerer), to tell him of the damage I had found, was met with instant incredulity, and doubtful accountability. I took both heads in to have the owner's of the establishment scrutinize the findings; again, met with instant proclamations of prior damage, to minimize, if not eliminate, any compensation. All 4 guides (iron), measured .565", (including the guide that came from the now torn up guide hole, measuring up to .593"), and 3 guide holes measured the same (.565"). The damaged exhaust guide hole measured between .570", erratically up to .593". The hole was now "egg-shaped" and off center. The repair would cost a minimum of $850.00 before tax, and could only be performed by an extremely experienced machinist with the right tools, of which this shop was NOT qualified to perform. When all was said and done, no compensation was given, and they basically accused me of attempting to "scam" them, as they claimed that the broken head "may not even be the head they disassembled." After having my 35 years of vintage Harley experience minimized to novice proportions, I couldn't take the inability of these people account for their incompetence. I left feeling completely defeated, never to return.

We told the story of how the car overheated while in line at the border because the fan wasn't working. He said it was likely a fuse. He pulled the faulty fuses and sold us a box of replacements. Said we should still take it into the shop to find out why the fuses blew once we get back home. This was a lot better than my original plan of adding coolant until we could get back to US and call AAA. Wish this store was in my hometown.

Where one shaft plugs into other shaft, there is a splined groove that mates the two, and splines were stripped and worn out. causing front driveshaft to turn but rear shaft didnt spin cause splines were all worn out. They had it for just under a week snd did a fantastic job. The price rose about 200$ but when I picked it up they kindly stuck to their original quote. The upcharge was because they had to spend more time on it. But in the end they did not make me pay for the extra work. Very pleasant counter sales. Highly recommend them. Bolted in beautifully. Terrible experience and calling names to his customer really goes a long way in the promotion of a business. I could have bought a brand new trailer for the amount he charged.

Went to G I B for an out-of-province inspection. Inspection was ok but when I got the car back I…read morenoticed the steering wheel was no longer on centre (3:00/9:00). I had just driven the car 12 hours back from east of Calgary so I knew for sure that the wheel had been on centre. Took the car back in, they charged me for an alignment, didn't give me an alignment print-out and the car felt absolutely no different except now the steering wheel was off in the opposite direction. Then they argued with me a bit that the tech had tested the car and it was right on centre. I went back in, took the tech for a ride and he then agreed it was slightly off centre. They did then fix it properly. Nice guys, polite, etc. However, I had to ask for the alignment print-out which I then received on a follow-up visit - first time in my life that I had an alignment done and the tech didn't show me the paperwork and go over it with me right away. At this point, I don't even know if an alignment was ever actually done on my car. The print-out I received doesn't even show a VIN number. Lesson learned.
