Great way to experience Montreal! Prepare for several hours (we were there 12:30 - 3:30) of fun. The activity seemed to be popular for all groups - families, tourists, bachelor parties - and the company did a great job separating groups accordingly. While the rapids were pretty intense, there were enough breaks in-between for beginners. The activity was a work-out, but not overly rigorous. You had the chance to paddle together and work together as a team, were directed by experienced staff, and had several moments where you went right into the rapids. There was also some down time for relaxing and jumping into the water. The staff was fantastic! They were friendly, provided the background and history, gave great instructions, and all had a wonderful sense of humor. They were able to explain in both French and English and really made the experience memorable. We'd highly recommend as this was the highlight of our visit. read more

SO MUCH FUN!!!!! Jo is the best! I went while on a girls trip with 5 friends and it was 100% our favorite part of the weekend!! It isn't constant rafting rapids so you get "breaks" of calm waters so you aren't overwhelmed. Great for beginners like us! You hit 4 rapids and on the fourth one you have the option to jump out of the raft. Sounds insane (or we thought so) but we did it and it was so amazing!! Something we will never forget. You also have a chance to jump out and swim after you're done rafting for a few moments, as well. You're able to rent wetsuits and crocs on site. And the guides are willing to take your photo beforehand or afterwards. The one "concerning" thing is how they wash the wetsuits after you've worn them. They simply dunk them in a bucket of water... lol. read more

TL;DR - Fun, Safe Intro to White Water River Rafting Let me preface this by saying the last 2 times I tried water sports, stand-up paddle boarding and floating down a lazy river, I nearly drowned. So to say I was hesitant about doing this is an understatement. Fortunately for me, this whole rafting adventure turned out to be a lot safer and more fun than I thought it would be. For 45 Canadian bucks a head, you and your group are taken on a guided 2-3 hour trip down a water way that happens to have a bunch of class 3 and 4 white water waves. If you're expecting a constant down river adventure, you'll be sorely disappointed. Instead, its a mostly calm river with large areas of high currents in which you'll go through 4-5 big dips and waves - big enough to get your adrenaline pumping but small enough where you won't die. The guides were all nice and friendly and ensured that everybody from the kids to adults were safe and having fun. Would recommend this to any novice rafter. read more

Where to begin. Ill start off positive--this was a fun activity. i truly enjoyed the water boat / jet boat experience, and deff had a great time. I would do it again, but not in this location. let...me....tell...you..why... First off, i came on a Monday. I booked my "Rafting" trip around 9 am that day...for two...and was told to come about 30 mins ahead of time. Showed up 30 mins early to be told that we will most likely not be rafting. Very odd, since i called around 9 am and my trip wasnt until 3pm ish. I would think if it needed to be canceled that the management would have called us. But now, apparently in order to do rafting you need at least 6 people in the raft, --which we were not told...and there was myself, my friend-- along with another 2 other women who were booked. I get it-- things happen, but what i dont like is driving out on the island of Montreal onto another section, out of the way, which took about 30 mins..showing up on time..to be told that we cant do it.You had ample time to notify me that there would be a change of plans. *Also, note that the rafting is cheaper than the other options here. I had only brought a certain about of cash on me in order to do the rafting activity. I did not want to use my credit or debit card in Montreal either ( i am from the US). So basically the woman at the counter kept saying we will have to wait for her manager and see if we would raft, but we need 6 people. i was bit annoyed and said to her, why didnt you call and us know? we want rafting and should have notified us since thats what we wanted..we booked hours of ago and should have had a warning. She was just very vague, a bit rude, and didnt seem to care. Kept saying that we would have to speak to management and theres nothing she can do. Also,i asked if the price would be accomodated since we scheduled and reserved one thing and now we cant get that? ( the jet boat was more expensive) and she said no that she might be able to give us a discount, of i think about $4 but that was all. i was trying to remain calm but felt that was really poor customer service since not only did they not communicate with us about not being able to give us what we wanted in our reservations, but now we were being forced to get something more expensive? Mind you, i told her i only had the specific amount for the rafting. Manager comes, and she was still a bit uptight and didnt accomodate much. she said we would have to do the jet boat and thats our option. i explained i had the $ amount for rafting and couldnt pay the full price for the jet boat, she said she will take what i had and pay out of her pocket the rest. I appreciated that and said think you for being understanding. my friend however, had to pay the amount they wanted---i believe there was a $3 discount or something of that sort. I felt terrible because at this point, the $ i had wanted to use as a tip was now going towards the jet boat price. The two people in our jet boat who were entertaining and working that day were great, but sadly i could not tip them. id also like to say that when checked in, it says 2 free photos from that day on the trip. i showed the woman who originally checked us in and yup..2 weeks later still no free photos. beware when scheduling, make sure to ask if its 100% going to happen, make sure to have ample money because these people are stubborn and will not fully accomodate you even though what you book is what you might not get. read more

We went here as a group of 11 guys. Ultimately, we had a blast and highly recommend this to anyone looking to do something active as a group outside in Montreal. Each raft gets a guide, we were able to fit all 11 of us plus 2 others and the guide into our raft. All of the guides were super nice and seem they really enjoy rafting as well, which comes out in their good humor manner that helps put everyone into a good mood. We were probably out on the water for about 2 hours. The guide led us to different rapids. I don't want to spoil all the ins and outs the guides leads you through, but it is super fun! read more

This was an absolutely amazing experience! My group and I did the jet boat excursion and it was the best thing ever! Prepare to get extremely soaking wet but have a lot of great laughs with your friends and family. We wore our swimsuits under our clothes but only kept our shorts on for the trip. This is not your typical white water rafting trip. We have rafted many rivers, and really had low expectations for this besides a couple hours on the water with the kids. First, the St. Lawrence is probably the biggest river you will ever raft in terms of size and flow. Just a massive amount of water. Second, the location is pretty unique(just up river from downtown with views of the city). While the rapids aren't massive or particularly numerous, the flow makes the few sets you encounter feel bigger. The guides were great. Friendly, funny and hard working. These are oar boats, so while you have to paddle, the guides do the heavy lifting. Our boat was light on strenght thanks to more kids than adults, and our guide worked his tail off getting us into position for each rapid(thanks Tebow). Makes it approachable for anyone with decent health and a small sense of adventure. If you have a half day to kill in Montreal, book a trip. Great excursion that breaks up the typical metro tourist activities. Price is reasonable for what you get($45cad for 2 hours vs $24 for a 2 minute zipline in the old port. No comparison). read more

Went on the jet boat with my girlfriend on Saturday, July 30. It was amazing! The captain did an excellent job and whatever he's getting paid probably isn't enough. We had a few opportunities to change seats throughout the ride, which was nice - everyone who wanted to sit in the front had a chance to do so. For those who may be interested in trying this, I can't stress this enough: YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT WET IS UNTIL YOU TAKE THIS RIDE! From the first time we rode into a wave/whirlpool, everyone (except for the captain, perhaps) on the boat was soaked from head to toe. It only got better after that. I'll spare the details as I don't want to spoil any of the fun, but I will say that if you're feeling adventurous, move to the front of the boat AFTER the first 2-3 whirlpools... A few warnings: the boat will have a fair amount of water in it from time to time, but this is normal and nothing to be afraid of - the boat will not sink. DO NOT take anything loose onto the boat with you such as glasses/sunglasses, cell phones, etc... They will be lost to the river! (The employees will hold whatever you want behind the counter - they have shelves and little baskets to hold anything you bring with you such as car keys, wallets, etc...) The company sells straps for your glasses, in case (like me) you can't see well without them. I chose to go without my glasses and the experience was diminished slightly as I couldn't take in the true beauty of my surroundings as well as I would have liked. Someone on the boat did buy a strap for their sunglasses AND they sat in the front and didn't lose the sunglasses, so... I guess they work. :) If you have water shoes, bring them with you. We both did and left our sneakers behind the counter. Others had to either wear what they had on or they rented Crocs for $4, I believe. We had Nancy as our guide and if you are lucky enough to have her too, you will have a blast! Nancy might be a little bit crazy, but in a good way. ;) She has a way of bringing the energy out of people and making the experience so much better than it already is. If I could have given an extra star for her, this would be a 6-star review. The company is lucky to have her and I would go back just to have her as my guide again. The company is located a fair distance from "downtown" Montreal, but is accessible via the Metro and bus. (Take the green line to Angrignon? station and catch a bus from there. I can't remember the number, so just ask someone who works there. We took a taxi from our hotel, which ended up costing us $45 with the tip, but we were in a rush, so that was our fault.) All in all this was the best daytime activity we experienced in Montreal. Can't wait to get back to the city and can't wait to visit this company again. :) read more

Our family loved this experience. We chose rafting because my 7-year-old was too young for jet boating but you can do rafting as young as 6. We all had a great time (although my two youngest kids didn't actually paddle). Portions are definitely thrilling, but this is perfect for people with no experience and for kids. The guides are very knowledgeable and work very hard to make it a great experience. On our trip, they sent out 4 boats, dividing passengers into French- and English-speaking rafts (which makes sense as the guide gives commands about padding). Our boat happened to have all the kids (6 in total, 2 of whom paddled), which left us a little short on paddling power, but we made it just fine. read more

Rafting Montreal is the only permanent rafting company for the Lachine Rapids in Montreal. They only do the Lachines and offer rafting and jetboating. Like all outfitters, they assign a guide for each boat and send a group of rafters on their way. The boats are large and fit around 12 guests while the guide uses large oars to direct the boat. The trip consists of four major rapids and if there is enough flow, a fifth rapid. The rapids are class III and IV. I went rafting ($43) as opposed to jet boating so the trip lasted a little over 2 hours. The facilities aren't bad, there's a plumbed bathroom that you can use to change and you can rent wetsuits if desired. The rapids themselves were fun and largely large surfing holes. The large boats really cut down the turbulence and danger of the rapids. The biggest problem is that the trip is really short. The bus ride, safety talk, practice paddle, and orientation take up the bulk of your trip time so the actual time in whitewater is pretty minimal. Going through five rapids left me really wanting more. The swimmer's rapid at the end was a lot of fun too. There's large sections of flatwater as well so the constant paddling was pretty tiring. The guides didn't give a great amount of detail in how to paddle so all of the boats seemed uncoordinated. But still, it is incredibly convenient to have some a nice section of whitewater so close to the city. It took me about 20 minutes to get to from downtown. I'm incredibly envious of paddlers and surfers in Montreal. read more

I did a jet boating tour with my 8 years old daughter. I loved it, but I cannot recommend it for kids of this age. My daughter did not like the experience at all. Why 3 stars: They say that you will be all wet, but they fail to explain that you will be flashed with water multiple times which will feel like a big bucket or even barrel of water is thrown in your face. This is fun for adults, but not for 8 year old kids. My sunglasses were washed away even though I attached them with the strap that they sold me onsite. So leave your sunglasses at home! They give you "waterproof" suits which are very old and not waterproof anymore. You are going to be completely soaked in water in minutes... And freezing... So better bring your own waterproof west and pants and go on a very warm weather day. read more
