As a gift to a younger family member, a ziplining day was planned and I asked if I could share the experience with everyone. I've ziplined before while on vacation, where we were surrounded by greenery. I thought doing it in the heart of Montreal with MTL Zipline would be a new way to experience it. (I was right). As you read the safety protocols and sign waivers, there are a few screens set up so you can watch videos of other zipliners. You are provided with a helmet and harness, which they confirm is placed properly and securely (it's very comfortable; personally speaking, anyhow). The staff members you meet at every stage are really nice and you don't feel rushed. After this, you walk up several flights of stairs to what I call the "launch point". The harness is attached to the zipline, and in what feels like no time at all- you're flying through the air. The view of the Old Port is beautiful and it's fun to see onlookers below. You want to absorb everything you're seeing, and you do, but it is also over before you know it. It's an amazing experience and I could do it over and over again but I am appreciative of having the opportunity to do it at all! It's a fun experience to share with family and create memories. Warning: not for someone who is afraid of heights. I had this place bookmarked for our Montreal itinerary. The process is fast: - sign a waiver - pay at the counter - head back outside to get geared up Most of the workers here are young but they do an amazing job of making sure you are well strapped into your harness and helmet. I have to say, when I saw the tower in person I was questioning whether I could climb up that high without panting. My advice is to take your time. Surprisingly, I made it all the way without huffing and puffing in the 88 degree weather. There is a nice breeze up top. The most exciting moment was seeing that red light turn to green, the gates swinging open and her releasing me. If you're an adrenaline junkie, you'll love this. Do enjoy the moment and view because it is over very quickly. Where else will you get to zip over the St. Lawrence River and alongside buildings? The speed picked up towards the end and I was like...oh sh*t, is it going to be a hard abrupt stop? A worker will be there to catch you and you will swing like a pendulum. I saw two very brave 6 year old girls do it without any fear and then another kid that was about 9-10 that freaked out as soon as he was strapped in. I know parents want to do it but make sure your child is up to this. If you have long hair, it must be tied up in a ponytail so it doesn't get caught in the zip line. As I exited I was startled with a camera. Worker: do you want a photo? Me: (giggling) Ummm, that would be a no. Worker: (chuckling) no? Me: (giggling again) yeah definitely not. Ms. Bobalicious does not look cute in a helmet. I don't understand the complaint about the price from other reviews. For about $22 U.S., I thought it was totally worth it. Conquered one of my biggest fear with this one. But I won't do it again. It's fairly simple. They make you sign a waiver. If underaged parents. Then they strap you to the harness and helmet. Then you yu trek up the stairs. The day we went was a rainy week night so the whole area was empty. It's not exactly high but for someone who is afraid of heights this was a definite crying opportunity. The fact that they didn't have an elevator made each flight of stairs daunting and on many occasions I was ready to turn around and go back downstairs. Long story short, I cried the whole time and the man on the other end, asked me many times if I was okay when I finally landed. Then I tried some more. Highly recommend. read more

It's fun and at 20 CAD a steal to go on this zipline! It's not too high so even those weary of heights can be convinced to go. Before you go, the staff will explain the proper body form and how to land safely in French and English. The only "con": Staff behavior at the start. Upon seeing the zipline walking into Vieux Port, my friend and I already were planning on going. The two gentlemen were aggressively telling us "Go! It's only 20. Don't be scared, all ages go and etc." While we were filling out the forms, we overheard a family behind us asking the same two staff members safety questions and about the waiver. The conversation seemed rushed. Lastly, the video option I would skip. The staff didn't do a adequate job of explaining how to wear the band. The staff seemed pushy on selling extras (the armband, sky-jump and picture at the end of your experience). It was a mild turn off. However, the MTL Zipline was one of the highlights of our trip. Avoid the frills and save some extra coin. Take pics and short videos while getting the gear ready. It's open until the evenings. Next trip I plan on going closer to sunset for the view! read more

I was by the waters when my friend and I saw people zip-lining. We walked towards the business when a man named Frank started talking to us. I was already dead set on not doing this, but somehow he talked us into it despite my stubborn personality. Impressed with his skills of roping us in, I decided to go for it with my friend. My legs were legit shaking walking up the stairs and I thought these stairs would never end. Finally, I reach the top and I see others go off one by one. It was then my turn and I almost had tears in my eyes. I looked pitifully at the woman who was about to send me off. She wasn't sure what to do so I told her I'll be fine. The good news is that I was more than just fine. The first few seconds were the scariest, but gliding through the waters was surprisingly very peaceful. I made it to the other side safe and sound and zip lining will never be a fear of mine again. read more

Was it worth it/would I do it again. Yeah...I guess. It was like 30 seconds of fun. On the good side, we bought our tickets in advance through GetYourGuide and they were $15 and we didn't have to wait in line, so that was nice. The whole zipline experience was very fast...maybe too fast. I've done a couple of zipline things before and I've done a lot of rock climbing, so I'm familiar with harnesses and helmets, but when I say they were quick on the safety info, I mean, it basically didn't exist. I kept asking the staff to check that my harness was secured properly because it just felt like too little attention was paid to safety. One of my biggest complaints is that you're pushed off the tower quickly with no explanation of what you're supposed to do when you reach the other side. So, as you pick up speed and come barreling towards the end, you have no idea that you're going to come to a grinding stop as the employee on the other side literally tackles you and yells at you to jump up on a set of wooden steps. I struggled with the abrupt "landing" and the teenager who caught me was yelling at me to hurry up, while at the same time, pulling me off the steps so it was impossible to get my legs under me. There were 4 in my party and we all agreed it would have been nice to have a little more explanation of what we were supposed to do or at least someone telling us to be prepared for a sudden stop (like from 60 to 0 in .5 seconds) when you get to the other side. My husband and our two friends used our MTL pass for this experience. This place is tucked aside the main drag of Old Port. The process was very straightforward. We were instructed to first fill out a waiver-they had both French and English versions available. We then informed the staff member that we have the MTL Pass in which he quickly scanned and directed us to walk to the back of the tower. Once we turned the corner there were a group of staff waiting with gear and lockers. You're able to put all of your belongings in a locker while they strap you in your harness and helmet. Once your harness is on you must walk up these metal stairs that go up the tower. It's certainly nerve-racking for those who are afraid of heights. My husband climbed up with no problem, but me and our 2 friends took it slow and shaky. One you get to the second to last staircase, there's a staff member that hooks you onto a metal line for security purposes. Then you walk up the last staircase. There was a small line so you're just standing on the stairs attached by the line -thank goodness there's handrails. Once it was my turn the staff seemed very experience and hooked me right in ensuring im secure and in the right position with my legs extended and feet crossed. He then set me off after confirming if im ready to go! (there were no lights like a previous review mentioned). The ride was really fun and I wish it were longer. I certainly yelled during my time in the air above all of old port to hear haha. I wondered how I would stop at the end but there is a staff member that catches you and ensures you're safely landed and releases your harness. The climb down this tower is a lot easier and at the bottom you take a photo and take off your gear. The photos are not free and they're only of you with your gear on. I think it would've been cool if they had taken pictures while in flight! Overall a really fun experience! read more

Fun zip line experience! At the old port, you'll see the zip line going over the 'pond' where the paddle boats are. You can find their website online for more information as well. We arrived late afternoon/early evening and didn't have to wait in line. We were helped in to our safety gear and then walked up the stairs to the zip line. Be prepared; there are lots of stairs. This is a simple, but fun zip line. I felt safe at all points. My kids immediately asked to do it again. If you do book in their website, there is a discount and you can use PayPal which will eliminate transaction fees for Canadian to US dollars. Usually I'm extremely Type-A planner for trips, but I've been busy lately so I let my fiance come up with an itinerary for Montreal and was excited when I saw zip-lining on his list! We actually drove by the tower on the way to our hotel (which about 3 minutes away on foot) and from a distance it didn't look too scary to me! So when it came time to head over I was pretty excited. A quick form to sign away your life and we were suited up and ready to make the climb. Once at the top we waited about 30 minutes for it to be our turn, which then started to scare me lol. I questioned whether or not the tower itself was stable, I questioned whether or not I'd somehow get my finger in the zip line etc etc... so yes, I was pretty terrified lol. Once I was about 5 persons away from going I calmed down a bit as it really didn't seem too bad! Of course the actual zip line across takes less than 1 minute, but it was worth it for sure. Did this on a whim and for $20, can't be beat. The staff were funny, friendly and competent. The climb up wasn't too bad. It becomes more real the closer you get to the top. I've never done this before and that moment before you hurl yourself off the platform is something else, but you are rewarded with an exhilarating ride and view. What a bunch of liars. Asked for the wait time - no wait time, go right up. Ok, we go right up. And wait for an hour and a half!!!! To add insult to injury, I've explicitly asked about a minimum age to participate - was told it was 3. Sure I said, so what if my 5 year old decides he doesn't want to follow his sister, who is a 7 year old adrenaline junkie? No problem, we will refund you. Guess what - after waiting for 1.5 hours, he decided he doesn't want to go - I was told no refund, flat out, and that nobody told me I will get a refund. Adding to this, my daughter got stuck at the end of her ride, and while she seemed to have fun, the staff were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, not knowing what to do, or where to go. read more

This was an awesome experience. The zip line is exhilarating, although its probably nothing for adrenaline freaks. It was not too short and rides fast and the starting height was at a perfect height. This could be little daunting if this is your first time. But it soo worth it. You will be more worried about the walk up because it felt unsure and unstable. The staff are young but explained everything. There is weight limit (260 lbs) and plenty of stairs to walk. Just remember to use both hands at the end and lean back. read more

Went to Montreal with my sister's family and she convinced me to do the Montreal Zipline. It is located in Montreal's old port. It is 85 feet high and 1200 feet across. The staff is really friendly and answer all your questions. Safety is very important for them and they make sure the harness and helmet are secure. They also explain exactly what you have to do and not do for a safe ride. You have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the top. The Zipline lasts about 20 to 30 seconds but it's quite the view. Price is $20 and you can get a bundle deal with the rope course next door. You can also rent a wrist case to put your phone in if you want to record your descent. Great experience and would love to try it again. read more

I had an excellent experience with these guys. They set you up pretty quickly, they inspire confidence in terms of safety, and the experience itself is a lot of fun. I am only giving them four stars instead of five because I rented a phone holder to video my ride and I was told that I would have help setting it up when I got ready to ride and then that never happened and I never had the opportunity to video the experience (and had already been charged at the start of the experience). The service there was some of the worse I have ever seen. I was not interested in going on the ride and only my cousins were, and as soon as I told the salesman that he began to imply more and more that I was just being a chicken and was too afraid. I told him the real reason I didn't want to go, which was that I didn't feel it was worth the price, and after that he began to berate me even more. He eventually told me that the price was good, and less than the McDonald's triple he said I was going to get later, which I took as an insult. . I politely then told him that maybe I would have liked to go if he haven't continued to pest me about it, which made me feel pretty good. Maybe next time, don't bully 16 year old girls into paying for something she has no desire for. Not only was the salesman rude, he also just lied, saying there were opportunities for family photos while on the zip line, that the conversion from Canadian dollars to us would go from 20-13, and saying that the ride would automatically slow down at the end. I'm not sure you can call and man grabbing you while still going full speed automatic. Concerning the actual zip line, I heard from 4 others that it was a major let down and just 10 seconds of a bad view and uncomfortable straps. Three actually were scared at the end because the zip line didn't actually slow down. If not for the man grabbing them, they could have gone straight through the wall. What an adrenaline rush this was! The staff was really patient and friendly and you can tell that safety is a priority. There was no line up at the start. The zip-line and quickjump combo is the best deal since you save $10. Don't forget to rent the cell phone armband in order to film your ride. The view of Montreal from the top of the tower is truly spectacular! You can even do the zip-line a second time for 50% off. I found that the photo booth at the end of the zip line was a great idea. Usually you have to drive to the country side to go zip-lining. What's nice about Mtl Zipline is that it's just 10 minutes away from the city center.
