It seemed strange that a place would be called Austin book shop and located on Jamaica Ave, but…read morethen I read it used to be located on Austin Street in Kew Gardens. My first question was what I ask all used bookstores -- did they had a philosophy section, but "very little or no humanities", according to Ray Harley, the owner. "What we do have is Baseball and American history." Both of which they have in abundance. He wasn't kidding. Shelves and shelves of books on the sport -- I mean, if you're into all things baseball, this is a literary treasure trove). In addition to American history. I also found a decent section on Jewish and U.S. Catholic history as well. The store itself was a study in chaos; apparently they were unearthing a lot of material from the cellar, so boxes and boxes everywhere which required some nimble navigation of the stacks. But what was shelved themselves was fairly organized. It's definitely a good place for browsing. Pricing: specializing in old, rare and out-of-print, most books on the shelf that I found were in the $20-25 range. There are a everal $1 carts out front where I found some pleasant surprises. Takeaways (nice haul): - The Mission: A Film Journal by Daniel Berrigan, S.J. -- regarding the making of one of my favorite movies. From the dollar carts: - - America's Lighthouses, An Illustrated History - Diary of a Dead Man 1862-1864 (Ira Pettit, Union Private) - When the Cheering Stopped, The Last Years of Woodrow Wilson, by Gene Smith - "Talk to the Hand" a DOONESBURY compilation I'll definitely be back. Odd hours as it's only open weekends. Tip for those contemplating going: the owner advised to call ahead to inquire about hours, "because I'll never know when I'll be babysitting."

Clean shop, tables to dine indoors and a few outdoor tables with umbrellas covering out front…read more Bagels are good, wide selection of regular variety but they also have some specialty Bagels which is what I usually get. My favorite is the Jalapeño Cheddar with garlic bacon cream cheese. I recommend this only to those who can handle heat because there is a good amount of jalepenos baked in. For a sweet choice I love the Super Cinnamon bagel. It's encrusted with a sllightly crunchy Cinnamon sugar - sort of what you'd get if a churro and a bagel had a chewy baby. In addition to bagels there is a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads and cookies. Catering and delivery available. Lots of special discounts and order ahead reduced pricing. Cash orders cost less than card payment and the difference in prices are clearly labeled. Lots of variety and coffee is fresh. Staff is helpful and friendly, there's a warm neighborhood type atmosphere here . You can tell they have a strong repeat customer base. Clean bathroom and store is wheelchair accessible. I get Too Good To Go Orders from this shop very often. It's a short window of time for pickup daily. ( Items are subject to change ) but it's usually a dozen bagels and the guys lete pick whichever bagels I want. It's great value and one of my top picks in this area for Too Good To Go.

By all means avoid this trap. Besides being ridiculously overpriced on just about everything, (we…read morepaid $60 for 2 bagels, a BEC, and 2 large iced coffees and small bottle of Starbucks mocha) they screwed up the order and one of the bagels was stale. If we didn't check before we left we wouldn't have seen they left out one of the coffees too. Poor food, poor service, high prices. Terrible.
