This place is groovy, funkalicious, vintage, and fun. And hey, it's got a squillion records (new and used), CDs, stereos, speakers, and the hippest clothes in town. The selection of music is unending, and the pricing is excellent. This place has a killer inventory, clean, and it's very organized. My mom always said to start positive - so here it goes ... They've got a TON of albums. Really an incredible selection across multiple genres. And now the negative - the reasons for my two star review. The prices are out of control. I really don't know how they can justify their prices. Second - the hours. Ragged closes at 5:00 p.m. Some of us do have 9-5 jobs and would like to purchase an overpriced record or two ... but can't. Third - the staff. I was in there today - with two overpriced records in hand. I came into the store at 4:45, selected my records, and at 5:00 was told the store is closed now. I said, "OK" and moved toward the register to check out. The clerk said, "we're closed now!" and motioned that I should put my records back. This was a not-to-startling act of rudeness; I've seen its like at Ragged before. My friends call it "being Quad Citied." Go elsewhere. read more

Who knew that Davenport, Iowa would have one of the finest record stores in the county. So many amazing records here and a staff who know all about them and knows if they have something. I have only been here a few times but have picked up records by Harry Nilsson, Rodriguez, and yesterday I picked up the new Steve Malkmus and the Jicks record. This store is huge so make sure you have some time to shop around. They also have a great local music section, they sell record players, and it's got a vintage clothing store attached to it as well! Yesterday they told me they were also starting a record label! Keep up the good work Ragged! read more

Debating over whether I want to share this hidden gem with the world, but I want them to stay in business - so check out one of the USA's finest record stores next time you are in Davenport. This is the only record store I've actually seen a vintage copy of Bowie's "Low" just chilling in the bin. Seriously? Yes. Months earlier I had ordered the same record from the UK off discogs because it's just plain hard to find. I left it in the bin for you to find. You're welcome. So much win at this place. I'm from the QC originally and whenever I'm visiting home I try to make it back to Ragged. If I had to compare this store to any I've been I'd say its most akin to Denver's Wax Trax, but with more of a focus on 70s goodies, 7 inches and the like - which is a good thing. This place is pretty good. I've been in Moline interning for Deere all summer, and I needed to find a place to go crate digging. I've bought close to 40 records from here so far, and I plan to buy about 10-15 more before I leave in a couple of weeks. The selection is massive here, which was quite surprising for me. I generally fancy jazz or soul/R&B records, and this store has plenty of gems at decent prices. They have a listening station, which is a plus. The staff is also pretty friendly. First, the good. They are like a museum of rare and precious vinyl. They seriously have thousands of hard to find albums that you'd be lucky to find 5 of in your normal store. Now, for the bad. As noted in most of the reviews, they know they have top of the line rare stuff and charge through the roof prices. Basically if you find an album that sits on Ebay for months and months because the price is too high, that's the price they charge. I always try to support local record stores because of the niche they provide, but I'm not going to pay 25% plus for the pleasure of doing business in your shop. Secondly, their organization system left me overwhelmed. The store is laid out as a normal record shop is. Then they had boxes upon boxes of vinyl under the "regular" racks of stuff. When asked about it, the person working behind the counter (who had zero desire to take one step from behind his fortress of solitude) just said it was overstock and there was nothing I would find under there that was not on the regular shelves. Lo and behold, I was able to find a Bowie album that wasn't on the general racks. All in all I left empty handed, and kind of jealous at the gems I saw but refused to pay that high of a price for. read more

This place is just great. The selection of used rock records is huge! There is a decently sized punk section as well. There are lots of new and reissue vinyl mixed in with the originals. Prices are right on, not overpriced for what I picked up. The guy at the counter was really helpful too. He helped me find the last copy of the Twin Peaks reissue soundtrack that was out of stock everywhere else I looked, including Amazon. I highly recommend Ragged if you are cruising through Davenport after checking out Antique Archaeology in nearby LeClaire. Or, just skip Antique Archaeology and the tourists and go right to the good stuff. read more

Not only is this a terrific used record (and hi-fi equipment, and clothes) store, it's the most impeccably organized and insistently tidy used record store I've ever been in. The organization is really handy if you are looking for a particular record or band. They have a good selection of stereo equipment as well, at a range of reasonable prices. Really, it's worth checking out for vinyl and CDs. read more

This record store has one of the biggest selections of vinyl in the Quad Cities. Well organized and expansive including a room packed with 7" singles. They are very reasonable on their new vinyl. The used vinyl is priced kind of high for my taste and did see a few records that were over graded. Friendly people work there who are more than happy to help you, although I'd personally avoid any interaction with the staff of the adjoining clothing store. I live 90 minutes away and on my first visit as soon as I walked in I made the mistake of asking the woman at the counter if there was a restroom I could use and she nastily replied "This is a 100 year old building, there's no public restroom" umm okay then. That weirdness aside Ragged records also sells some used turntables etc. But like most stores who dabble in this the prices tend to be rather high. It's definitely a must visit for any vinyl collector, a good selection of all genre's of music. read more
