For our last ride of the evening, Kevin J and I hopped in the last row shortly after dusk on 8/5/17 and it felt just like old times, back when I was a member of ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts - yes, this is a thing) and the park gave us exclusive ride time on this bad boy. Lights out, zero visibility. F*ck yeah. In a previous review, I was critical of the trim brakes that park maintenance installed, specifically the ones toward the crest of the first "airtime" hill following the turnaround. Mr Killjoy is still present and ruining what could be a terrific moment of negative G's, sadly that hasn't changed. However, the MCBR (that's "mid course brake run" for all you non-coaster peeps) didn't slow the train down too much and made for a totally gnarly 2nd half of the ride. The hi-velocity curves at the finale are placed low to the ground and give some nice lateral motion; at nighttime the sensation of speed is amplified. And just in case you thought the front row would be preferred for this 73mph hypercoaster, you'd be wrong. The BACK row is where you want to be, largely because of nifty little pre-drop as the train disengages the lift hill. Riders in row 8 are treated to a lovely thrust of negative G's as the train gets pulled down the 208ft first drop. Pure magic. Unlike 'Mako' or 'Nitro', this ride is classified as a hyper twister, which makes it unique in the coaster world. Most steelies of this scale feature an out-and-back layout with numerous floater hills, yielding maximum airtime. 'Raging Bull' is more about graceful turns, which is fun and all, but not what a coaster fanatic like me wants to see. Restraints are ergonomic and seats are insanely comfortable, easily some of the best around. Station dispatch crew is usually pretty chill, too. Lines move very quickly, so don't get discouraged if the queue is filled - 'RB' chews through guests like nobody's business. A platform attendant asked Kevin J and I to "wait for a few cycles" so a bunch of highly privileged white folks could use their VIP skip-the-line passes. Rich bastards lol. He gave us double rides for our inconvenience, tho, which was the right thing to do. Good on you, my man. Riding 'Raging Bull' during the day versus riding it after sunset makes a WORLD of difference. I'd strongly recommend the latter for anyone seeking an exhilarating way to close out your trip to Six Flags Great America. Raging Bull is so smooth and suave. Its my 2nd favorite coaster next to the Goliath. Just a lap bar on this one to hold you down from falling. That's the thrill of it. If you have the courage to ride this badass bull, you won't regret it. The drops on this sucker will make you feel like you're floating on air! Try putting your hands in the air like you just don't care to feel the full effect. There's 4 riders per row on this, so get your 3 close friends together and try to conquer the raging bull. This is one of the longest coasters in the park, so well worth the wait. read more

Got to ride this once during my trip in September and gotta say that relived great childhood memories. I rode this only in 2002 a few times and I was lucky as a kid to ride this because of the minimum height requirement. So to do this again as a fully grown adult felt a little different but felt amazing to ride again. Lots of fun and good airtime. I remember loving this ride and the line does move fast as the person working that station made sure each train goes out by 1 minute which was awesome. The line was 30 minutes long and usually our third ride of the day. we rode the front which was fun and enjoyable. It reminded me of riding Diamondback at Kings Island which was cool. I've been on Raging Bull a fair amount of times. I forgot how much fun this ride was and going through all its wildest twists and turns giving you an insane adrenaline rush. The ride is definitely amazing. There's nothing to be afraid of, sit back, relax and have fun... I don't think this one has a place to buy photos if I'm correct. read more

I'M RIDING HERE That is probably what Robert DeNiro would say if you cut him in line here! Then he might punch you a bunch of times, until you start crying! Moral of the story don't be a line jumper! This ride us to be the smoothest ride here until X-Flight opened but it is one of my favorite coasters. Expect long lines when you get to this ride, so be prepared and plan accordingly. This ride first opened in 1999, so it's been here a while but with the fresh coat of paint it received in 2008 you would think its brand new. It even rides like a modern coaster without all of the head bouncing and neck jerking. It is also one of my favorites at Six Flags. The ride goes up to 208 feet before it drops you. Insert Scream here! This first drop is the best plus you get a great view of the park. The ride also maxes out at speeds of 73 MPH. We are all here for the thrills and the Raging Bull delivers. This ride doesn't go upside down but between all the drops, turns and speed, it doesn't need to. It is one of the top 2 coasters here. The Raging Bull is located in the Southwest Territory, in between The Viper, an all wooden roller coaster and The Giant Drop, which is like a sling shot that shoots you up and drops you! The Raging Bull sits on an area which was once occupied by Rolling Thunder, a bobsled ride. Rolling Thunder was removed in 1996 to make room for the Southwest Territory at Six Flags. If you miss Rolling Thunder it is somewhere in New York thrilling others. The Raging Bull is a must here at Six Flags. Sitting in the front row is the best seat and for your first ride it is worth the wait in line. I always like to ride a new coaster from the front row because I want the best possible experience. I want to be thrilled and not looking at the back of your head. So if you haven't hopped on the Bull then it's time to get on and enjoy the thrill. This is one of the best coasters here and worth the wait. Yes there will be a long line here but it's worth it. Just keep an eye out for line jumpers! read more

An ideal nightcap to my first visit to Six Flags Great America, Raging Bull takes you up just over 200 feet and drops you down into a series of huge, cresting twists and turns, perfect for whipping through the cool night air after a beautiful Illinois August day. Raging Bull is a hyper-twister, a hyper being a coaster over 200 ft and the twister part being the aforementioned series of huge cresting twists and turns. Most hypers are a series of airtime hills with one other element to get you turned around to go back to the station thrown in. I prefer the traditional hyper layout - Mako at Sea World in Orlando is stupendous - but as the 5 stars here indicate this whole twister thing can be a blast, too. I mean, a hybrid layout might be nice with one good airtime hill before going into the twistiness, as Raging Bull never really reaches peak feroricity, but it's just so fast and smooth and fun I really can't complain - especially since I've never experienced it without the oft derided trim brakes at the top of the second hill. I can only imagine this younger, angrier Raging Bull I've heard tale of. Eric S and I rode in the back row - a privilege we paid for in extra wait time as high rollers with flash passes hogged the back row for several ride cycles - and still Raging Bull was buttery smooth. The manufacturer of this ride, Bolliger and Mabillard, makes the smoothest roller coasters and RB has to rank in my top 5 in that department. It's excellent for reridability, as I experienced first hand when a ride op gave a us second go round in the next to last row for being such good sports and waiting patiently for the back row while upper crust usurpers bypassed the line to snatch it away from us. When I was down at Sea World I rode Mako 13 times and I'm sure I could have done the same with Raging Bull if the coasters here were walk-ons like they were down there. I definitely wouldn't try that with the woodies here. Even the exhilarating and smooth Goliath might have me a little too dizzy after the 11th or 12th go round. The trains on Raging Bull are also very similar to those on Mako with 4-wide seating and large triangular shapes on the pull down lap bars to hold you in place - the most comfortable seating of any ride I was on at SFGA. And I love the view as it pulls out from the station, looking straight out at the iconic first hill of American Eagle which was bathed in a spotlight against the night air. I don't know if Raging Bull exactly embodies it's name - it seems a lot more like a swift, fearsome bird of prey to me - but it's definitely a must ride at this park. Oh Raging Bull! I love this ride so much. There is some airtime, and this roller coaster is the fan favorite at Six Flags Great America. You start off with a lift hill that goes up to 202 feet tall! Then you go down into a small tunnel at 208 feet. Then you go back up and turn around. Then there are more hills. A brake run during the ride happens. Then you drop down where there is a camera that takes your picture during the ride. WARNING: If you hate pictures, do not go on this ride! It takes your photo for souvenirs! Anyways, there are some twists, turns, and drops before the final brake run. Isn't that an easy coaster to handle? Well, I'm always on Raging Bull whenever I go to Six Flags Great America. At 2nd place in my list after Goliath it rocks the party with amazing first drops, airtime, g-force, helixes and everything you imagined in a regular B&M , coaster. An amazing roller coaster suffering from annoying interference. This example of a Werner Stengel coaster makes me eager to sample more of his work. It is so smooth but so full of unexpected zero-g elements and turns. The first drop especially is incredible. BUT they have neutered the bull by installing aggressive trim brakes on the second hill and before the figure eight. This ruins the experience after the first drop and turn. Thus, the if the Bull could reach its full potential I have no doubt it would be a world class experience. read more

Roller coaster perfection right here. Really, do I need to say more? Literally THE best coaster in the whole park. It's smooth, it doesn't jerk you around and it offers thrills over and over again. The first drop is my favorite. I believe it offers the same heart-stopping descent as "Goliath" (although in sheer stats-i.e. Degree of descent, height in drop, etc.-it isn't the same) I rode this three times while there yesterday and it was great every time. We came on a Friday so our wait times were significantly reduced. I think the most we waited was 30 minutes. Righteous!!! This is an amazing ride, it's long, smooth, and you get launched off the pre drop, the only bad thing is the lack of AirTime, there is the drop, the drop off the Mid Corse Break Run, A small airtime hill and a big airtime hill, the big airtime hill has a terrible trim break that was inactive until a few years ago, the trains used to fly over that hill but they decided to enable the trim break to make this more of a "Family Ride" and to reduce ware on the track, the trim break really kills the momentum, there's also a trim break right at the top before the first drop but after the pre drop, I don't know why it's there, it doesn't do anything but let's just hope to god that they don't enable that break! read more
