Probably one of the most stunning restaurants in the world, and in a train station of all places…read more As many places, this restaurant was originally designed for the 1900 Exposition Universelle. The dining rooms were themed to represent cities and regions in France. And they are exquisite from floor to ceiling. I was told to make sure I made a reservation about a month in advance. I did not, I wasn't sure of my timing through the station. But there's a way to still enjoy the beauty and eat. Le Train Bleu also offers a bar area. Here there are several small lounges with luxury interiors. It is possible to sit in one of these areas, but you may have to wait. My timing was perfect. A 5 minute wait. The cozy spot had gorgeous dark paneling and felt so warm on a December day. The service is impeccable no matter where you sit. The bar menu is quite toned down from the restaurant area. Lighter bites for travelers in between trains. I am a croque Monsieur addicted and wanted one last one before leaving Paris. The presentation was very different from the traditional ones at most bistros. This one was rolled tight and sliced into sections. Still delicious ham and Emmental goodness. A fresh salad was on the side. A bowl of mixed olives arrived shortly after being seated to nibble on while waiting on the meal. Next visit, I enjoy the main dining room!!!

The food was overpriced for what we received, both in quality and presentation. The service was the worst part of the experience. After being seated, we waited a long time before anyone came to help us. Once we ordered, everything moved incredibly slowly, despite the restaurant not being busy when we visited. To make matters worse, our server got our order wrong and then responded with an attitude instead of apologizing. Because we had already waited so long, we just accepted the mistake. Another server opened our champagne bottle and spilled about a glass when it burst. The head waiter said he would credit us for one drink, but when the bill arrived, nothing had been adjusted. Instead, he asked if we still wanted the spilled glass. After spending over two hours there for lunch, we were completely done with the experience. We did speak with the manager, who apologized and gave us 10% off, which we appreciated. What started as what we hoped would be a great lunch ended in disappointment. I won't be returning unless the service and food quality improve significantly.

The apple had a lightness to it yet the middle had a fresh apple crunchiness. The other two treats were wonderful. We ordered flat white's and they were done perfect. The staff spoke English as well as French (which was helpful for us). You could see the Notre Dame from the window. Small seating area and perfect cozy feel.

THE FOOD ------------------…read more+ Notre Dame Granny Smith Apple Confit - Was refreshing! I couldn't tell if this was a real apple or some fancy French creation made to look like one - that's how real it looked! The mousse and apple bits were cold & delicious and the chocolate shell was good, but not sure if it was worth the price at €7.5. + Pain Au Chocolat Cookie - Verrrry good chocolate chip cookie, chocolate croissant mashup. Only thing that we were missing was some good ol' milk! + Almond Croissant - Once again, delicious! Solid croissant and definitely a good grab and go candidate. = Citronnade - Was just OK. Lemonade that was on the watered down side, but was somewhat refreshing because I was dying of thirst. THE SERVICE ----------------------- - Employee who helped us with our order was friendly, but the cashier was a bit blah and not exactly the friendliest person, especially when we asked for extra utensils and napkins. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------------ - Smallish, tight interior that you can dine in at, but don't be surprised if the next table is sitting on top of you. + There are also 5 outdoor tables on the narrow street. - Entrance is tight too. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS ------------------------------------------- + Even though this bakery is ranked highly on Tripadvisor, there was no crowd on the Monday morning that we swung by. Line moved superfast.

We spoke to a lady who was American but moved to Paris years ago. She recommended the chocolate hazelnut which changed her life. So us fat kids sampled the 6 flavors which the girl brought us inside the business to give us the samples. I then told her large she gave me extra large with 5 scoops. We got lemon ice, coffee gelato, chocolate chip, chocolate hazelnut and the chocolate fondue. Everything was delicious. But I think we were gelatoed out and the lemon ice was amazing ! Everything was good but the lemon stood out. It was just more refreshing as we walked Disney Paris all day then walked from metro to the stores. Then we met the store owner who was really sweet and we chatted for a bit and then said hey do you want something to go? I said no it's ok and then she said here have more lemon ice. My wife and I destroyed that as well. She was so sweet. She said it doesn't make you fat since it's just water and sugar and fresh lemon. I said yeah it will lol. I'd come back.
