Kevin responded to my email within minutes, and 48 hours later received a quote that was so reasonable, I begged him to start at that very moment. Of course he couldn't, but a few days later, he came to do the job and omg, you wouldn't believe the difference. He not only mowed down the berry bushes, but also chipped them. His machine was also able to take down a bunch of small alders, a plus I hadn't counted on. The whole area is now mulched and so far, because of the thick layer of mulch, no sign of the berries coming back.
