My wife and I did the Kayak and hike tour to Secret Falls yesterday at 12:30 and it was really amazing. Both parts of the tour were amazing and we swam in the Falls after eating our sandwich, chips and pineapple (which we both devoured after the first half of tour, you earn the meal and the swim!) Awesome time! We did the early morning tour and was glad we did. Was able to beat the heat by a little. Our guide Nathan was excellent. Answered all of our questions and offered plenty of knowledge about the local plants, wildlife, culture, and history of the island. The hiking was a trail I would say isn't suited for small children by any means. Easy for an adult to do but you definitely have to watch your step. Nathan gave us plenty of chances to take a break and get pictures in of the scenery around us. Very little uphill. I wouldn't say I'm in excellent shape and I had no problems completing it. Waterfall was insanely fun. Water was cold but you quickly get used to it. Food was typical picnic lunch. Definitely wear shoes you can get muddy. We have a relatively dry trail according to our guide and there was still plenty of mud. If you are looking for a great outdoor adventure and don't mind getting dirty-this is definitely the route to go. That's Nathan for such a great experience! read more

My boyfriend and I did the early morning kayak/hike experience with Zack. Zack is an amazing guide. He made sure we all had walking sticks and in my opinion he was the most thoughtful and professional guide I saw out there. You could see how much he loved and respected the land he was showing us and I really appreciated the care he took to point out aspects of the hike. His dad jokes are also great :) I remembered a few to tell my family and friends back home. During the kayak portion it was super cool that everyone could go at the pace they wanted. We had a lot of fun challenging ourselves to go faster. I work out daily and found both the hike and kayaking to not be strenuous, but getting açaí bowls after felt like a well deserved treat! (per Zack's recommendation we went to Kalalea Juice Hale and I highly recommend that.) Lunch at the waterfall is an unforgettable aspect of this trip and I recommend the earliest tour so that the area is not too crowded. We had turkey sandwiches and your choice of chips. RKT also provided cold water bottles which was really nice and unexpected! I highly recommend this to anyone who is coming to Kauai for the first time like we were! Also, there is a coffee shop right next to the kayak check in so if you were like us and came from across the island and had an early wake up, you can leave a few minutes early to get some caffeine before the trip begins. read more

We were able to swim in the falls and then eat lunch. The sandwiches were very well made. The hike back felt fast as well as the kayak back. Over all one of the highlights of our Hawaiian vacation. Just got back from our morning kayak at the Wailea river and hike to the falls. Our friends highly recommended this trip and it did not disappoint. The river was like glass in the morning and beautiful lush greenery all around. The hike was muddy (do not wear new or expensive shoes) and plan on getting dirty and wet but totally worth it. Austin was an amazing tour guide and was very patient answering all of my questions. He even ended up "towing" one of the other couples back as they were having trouble maintaining a straight line. read more

A great trip was had by my family. It was my wife's 80th birthday and she, my daughter and myself went on this adventure. Allen, our guide, was most knowledgeable and set an easy pace. The kayaking was easy, since it was on a placid river, and the hike was also pretty easy since it was quite level. There were a few 'difficult' areas where the trail was a little slick, but Allen clued us in and we took our time through those areas. The falls were majestic! Several people went ahead and swam in the pool, but others simply sat, ate the sandwich lunch and enjoyed the experience. For somebody in average shape, with a desire to get a little off the beaten track, this is a great choice. I'd do it again in a heart beat read more

The waterfall is amazing and a great end of the hike. The kayaking is definitely strenuous! I really enjoyed this tour. My one complaint was I felt like the guides could have been more helpful or friendly. One seemed more interested in talking with other hikers or tour groups than ours. We had some older individuals(80 plus) and some guidance during the hike would've been helpful, not physical help but more about guiding them about the best way since there is some mild scrambling involved in the hike. Felt like we were more or less on our own at times. It was a lot of fun and everyone from the teens to the 80 year olds loved it. read more

Such a fantastic tour thanks to our amazing tour guide Sierra. The tour itself is such a fun trek of kayaking and hiking. Our tour guide was informative, kind, engaging and took great care of the group. She is the reason I give this a 5 star review. I want to mention that the company could improve by having a second employee who helps load the kayaks at the end of the trip. After the trip the kayaks needed to be loaded on the van and then you can get a ride back to the shop. The issue is with just one tour guide customers are essentially expected to help load the kayaks up otherwise you might be there all day waiting for the tour guide to do it themself. Please hire more employees as it is not the customers job to aid you with your equipment! read more

We had the best day! Mavrick was our tour guide and he rocked it!!!! My 8 year old and I joined this tour and it was one of our trip highlights! Such a lovely day. Small group size, yummy food, beautiful scenery and an awesome guide, we could not have asked for more. The guide was super knowledgeable about the area and seemed to genuinely care about the tour guests and the outdoors. He knew so much about the plants and wildlife and we got to eat several different things growing along the trail. He was all about us having fun and enjoying the day! The kayaking was challenging but not overly hard. I am moderately in shape and did it without issue. The hike was a little bit muddy, but overall very flat without much incline. There are a couple sections where it's pretty rocky, So I recommend close toed shoes. We had plenty of time to explore along the way and paddle at our own pace. The waterfall was beautiful. You get a choice of sandwich for lunch along with fresh fruit and chips. I highly recommend this tour. read more

He was full of Hawaiian knowledge and educated all of us on very interesting topics from seasons to plants, and much more. The hike was rather easy, we wore Teva style sandals and got around great. Our tour guide, Kahi, was absolutely awesome - friendly, knowledgeable, laid-back, and a good hang. He made us all feel comfortable, helped us have fun, and also struck a great balance of helping us stay safe as well. Kahi led us on a kayak tour up the river, through a small, narrow tributary that would be hard to find without a guide, and then on a beautiful hike up to Secret Falls, where he provided all of us with healthy sandwiches, and gave us the perfect amount of time to enjoy the falls, swim, and take pictures. First and foremost I want to say that Annie (our guide) was the absolute coolest person that we have met in Kauai. She really made this one of the most enjoyable experiences we have had on island! We showed up a little early to check in and promptly received our brief, a few pointers of how to kayak and off we went. Once we made it up the river Annie (who isn't just super cool, she is wicked smart too) gave us a short lesson on the trees and plants surrounding us. The knowledge she provided made the entire experience even better. We made the small (easy) hike up to the falls. The falls are beautiful and totally swimmable. If you only have time to do one organized event on the island look no further!!!! read more

Great tour! We went last week when we were in Kauai. The combination of hiking/kayaking was a nice little workout. It was pretty easy for my husband and I, so it's definitely doable for people of all ages who aren't in amazing shape. The waterfall at the top was great and lunch was much appreciated! Our guide Zac was super fun and helpful. My advice: go as early as possible. We did the 7:45 am tour, so by the tile we got to the falls, it was about 10 and already kind of crowded. I don't know when the first tour leaves, 7:45 was the only thing they had open. It's definitely worth the price! read more

we had thomas as our tour guide. he was knowledgeable and helpful for the trip. the falls at the end of the hike were amazing. the reason for the "maybe" recommendation was there were times on the hike that the conditions were challenging. we went after and during rainfall and the rocks can be very slick. around the waterfall, it was very difficult at times to just be able to walk around without falling. anyone that could be unstable on their feet should think twice about the tour. the only other thing i would bring up is the footware. the tour suggests that you wear sneakers for the hike. what they should tell you is to wear footware that you can hike in, but also shoes/sneakers that you don't mind getting wet. there are 3 areas in the hike where you need to walk through the river. sturdy water shoes would be perfect. read more

I highly recommend using Rainbow Tours for this adventure. I looked into other groups who do the same trip and Rainbow had the best overall reviews. I'm so happy with the decision. Our guide, Alan, was just wonderful. He explained everything very thoroughly before the trip. I had never Kayaked prior to this, and his instructions on how to do it properly were great. He was also very patient in the water with those of us who took a little longer to catch on to the paddling and steering. Once on the trail he was very informative along the way describing the local flora and fauna. He never made you feel rushed. Once we arrived at the falls he gave us ample time to swim and enjoy the waterfall. It says the tour takes 5-6 hours and we did take 6 hours. It was perfect. I noticed the other group arrived just after us and started after, but quickly passed us on trail and had less time at the falls, then left much quicker. I really appreciate Alan's willingness to take his time so we could thoroughly enjoy this experience. My sister and I had a great time. People need to be sure to read the information they send you prior to the trip. A few people showed up in tennis shoes or flip flops. They clearly tell you what shoes are best. Trust them! The hike is very muddy and slick for most of it. I wore my Teva sandals, and they worked well. read more

Kauai is such a beautiful, outdoorsy place to explore.. so what better way to explore it than by doing a kayak & waterfall hike tour!? My friend went to Kauai a few months earlier and recommended this tour by Kayak Adventures to me. My husband and I had a great time! This is not a difficult hike, and a much easier hike than the Hanakapi'ai Falls Trail (Napali Coast hike). I would recommend water shoes like Teva, if you wear tennis shoes or hiking shoes - your shoes and socks will get wet. You have to cross a river with no rocks to jump across on. The kayaking was about 2.5 miles and the hike is about 1 mile one way. We had a great tour guide named Thomas. He was really friendly and super knowledgeable. He told us about different plants, animals, and history of Hawaii. He also prepared a pretty lunch for us with flowers and leaves. Thomas also bandaged me up when I accidentally scraped myself on some rocks (I'm SUPER clumsy and got a little careless). Its not a strenuous hike, but you do need to be careful and watch where you are going while hiking and also watch the rocks in the waterfall. The waterfall was beautiful and the water was warm and great to swim in! I would recommend taking a tour in the morning. We did the 7 AM one and the waterfalls was less crowded plus it started getting really hot on our kayak back. I would highly recommend checking out Kayak Adventures for a great morning kayak and waterfall hike while visiting Kauai! read more

I agree with other reviewers that this is a great tour with 2.5 miles of easy kayaking and 2 miles of hiking, which depending on the conditions change be challenging. Our hike was extremely muddy and slippery and there were a number of difficult sections. I think this is very doable for most people, but I was recovering from hip surgery and would not have done this trip (the hiking part) had I known that that there were any technical aspects. I think the company should be a little more specific about the challenges when conditions are very wet. That said, our guide Thomas was great and very understanding. read more

She has such a great personality, is very knowledgeable and was so much fun, She definitely works hard and made the trip enjoyable for everyone. She shared a great deal about the Hawaiin culture and history, as well as the trees, flora & fauna, and the animals we encountered. Being in our late 60's we were a bit apprehensive about the physical aspect of the hike, but it was very manageable. However, the hike has some challenging moments with some stream crossings, and climbing over boulders and tree roots/logs, etc. However, it is all worth it!! read more

I went on a wonderful guided tour of the Wailua River up to Secret Falls with Kevin. He was a great guide and is a wealth of information on the flora, fauna, and general history of the Wailua River valley and Kauai in general. I had expected the tour to be a bit more difficult than it was. (Not that I'm complaining!) I brought way too much stuff with me because I hadn't realized that almost everything is provided. The tour included: -unlimited water bottles, chips, and cookies at the tour office before leaving -yellow water proof backpack for all my stuff (my personal backpack ended up in this) -life preserver -and of course, the tandem kayak, paddles, and tour guide (did I mention how great Kevin was?!) :) I had my iPhone with me in a ziplock bag and it has an activity tracking app that told me the following things about my tour: -It was a 6 min (1.3 miles) drive (provided by Rainbow Kayak) from their office to the Wailua River -We got our second kayak briefing for about 20 mins at the Wailua River boat ramp (first one at their office) -We kayaked for 42 mins (2.1 miles) -Walked from the kayak beaching ground to Secret Falls for about an hour (about a mile) -And then stayed at Secret Falls swimming and playing and eating sandwiches and pineapple for a solid hour. And then of course did everything in reverse. It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning in nature. My friend took over 200 pictures with her waterproof camera - including some scenes from on the river - while I took 150+ photos along the way with my iPhone. Things to be aware of: Your shoes will get SOAKED. After beaching the kayaks half way through the tour, you walk for 20 minutes or so until you reach a tributary creek that has to be fjorded. There is a rope to hold on to and it was not too deep but we were walking IN the water. I was wearing some walking/running shoes that served me well as far as the potential for slipping in mud goes BUT as I was wearing white socks...I was soon wearing soggy white socks that were pretty low cut. This meant they were mud and pebble traps. I got over it but I definitely noticed all the grit around my ankles. I think I would have been much better served with socks that went higher up my calves. Also, I had put sunscreen on my face and arms but has forgotten my legs. I was in shorts and noticed that night that I had bright pink burns from my sock line to my knees from the time spent in the kayak. If you are going to wear shorts, I would say definitely put some sunscreen on your calves. Also, I brought a towel and change of shorts so that I could change after swimming in the waterfall. I noticed a lot of people didn't and that they were significantly less comfortable looking. The whole trip served as a wonderful reconnection with nature and the icy cold water of the waterfall was exhilarating after the kayak and walk. Really an amazing experience. Mahalo Kevin! read more

This was definitely worth it! This was the first outing on our Kauai Trip. We paddled along the Wailua River for a few miles then hiked through gorgeous mango trees and lush forest to the Secret Falls. Lunch is provided :-D. The river was gorgeous-- Ana and I were a hardcore paddling team-- Olympics look out! Just kidding. Jess was with the tour guide Adam (who is originally from Minnesota but you would never guess). The temperature and weather was perfect... our group was filled with folks our age as well so we all got a long great. The hike to the waterfall was informative (yes I am a teacher nerd and was totally amazed about the history of the area) and beautiful. I only got two mosquito bites which was a miracle. It had rained the night before so the water levels were slightly higher than usual..... the mini liquid sunshine clouds did not affect our hike or the kayaks. We got to see irrigation lines, old stones that were used as house foundations. Adam is super genuine and loves what he does.... I am glad we didn't do this tour in the summer-- there are tons of mangos along the path which to me and the girls equals bee stings and mosquitoes... amongst other stuff... Yes keeping it Kauai we saw chickens everywhere WTF! Anyways so we went a long a path and then we saw a beautiful mini water fall that was used as a bath spot.. up further we saw it-- Secret Falls. The water was icy cold at first, but warmer as we got to the fall itself. We set up camp and ate some yummy sandwiches provided by Rainbow Kayak Tours...Adam sliced up some juicy pineapple and told us about how he got here... 45 minutes later we packed up and went back-- The way back was like that scene in the first Jurassic Park where they are in the fields....a beaten path-- SWEET! Tons of tree stumps and other stuff to climb through... I was excited...others not so much (especially on a full stomach LOL). We went through this AMAZING morning glory curtain and through a wooden area when we had to climb over some branches..... the air was super crisp and cool.... I was at home. The kayak trip back was chill. Ana and I pretty much zoned out and watched folks on surf boards and other kayak tours paddle on the river. No one tipped over, no one got super eaten by bugs and everyone had a great time This is a must tour if you go-- I suggest going to the early tour (7:15 AM) there is a coffee bean and some other places you can get caffeinated and the tour provides waters and some Hawaiian green tea/ juices for the trip. Cost per adult: 70 bucks-- but for 4 1/2 hours including transportation to the river area, equipment and a super sandwich lunch....it is definitely worth it NO FLIP FLOPS FOR SAFETY REASONS..crocs were okay for the folks who wore them...might want to look into some solid water shoes if you have them... I did fine in my sketchers (the ones that are light, have a sturdy heel and are velcro) This is a safe tour for folks who have never gone kayaking before... :-D Jess and I left our mark in the waterfall..and they say alpha males are territorial :-D read more

The kayak-hike-waterfall-hike-kayak tour was the highlight of our trip to Kauai. Zack was attentive, knowledgeable, and entertaining. The Wailua River was beautiful and peaceful. The hike to the waterfall was not as muddy as I was expecting from other reviews, but definitely challenging...not strenuous but lots of rocks and tree roots to navigate. I considered derating to 4 stars because of the lunch, but you don't go on these adventures for the food. Overall, I highly recommend this professional group for an amazing experience. read more
