Wow what a wonderful locals spot to go to if you want kitchen grease and dirt in your food, and then the manager to berate you for finding it, and refusing to take it off the bill b/c she is having a meltdown for reasons unknown. GREAT EVENING FOLKS. Friends had been here many times, so we popped in bc a few us had not experienced. Big enough place, teeming with locals, cool, what i believe was, a trout pond in front. Waitress was beyond lovely and accommodating. It all went downhill with the soups that were edible but strange. Salad bar is basic. Vegetable stir-fry...... had chunks, yes CHUNKS of black dirty, greasy.. we have no idea in it. Put it in a napkin and this was more than just "mushroom dirt" that the floor manager had the audacity to point out. OK BRENDA.. why is there dirt in the food if you insist it's not grease from the stove dripping down (this stuff had fibers in it ya'll... FIIIBBBERRSSSS.) Oh and let's get Brenda real pepped when we have to break it to her that the roast beef has also gone off and smells like a wet piece of old leather that a dog had been chewing on all week. She did NOT take that well and announced to the entire kitchen for all to hear- "SPOILED MEAT SPOILED MEAT THEY SAID." This was truly some chaotic dramedy going on in this joint that night. The insanity that this manager though A) dirt in food was acceptable B) calling us liars that the GRAY roast beef was in fact fresh and C) causing a huge scene while thinking a singular small bowl of rice pudding would make up for.... what infamy. The best part is that the rest of us had no issue with our food (albeit low quality and no where near these price points) and we still spent $100 and tipped the server very well for having to deal with Kween Karen as her boss. Well our server started out nice but by the end of our meal she was not so nice. It took a while to get anything even though they weren't that busy. We didn't complain at all just asked after a long while if our food was ready because people that sat after us were getting food. The server went and checked and said it was being plated. Okay no problem and it came out a few minutes later. My husband got a "special " it was so salty that he could only manage two bites. The server came around to check on us and he said it was too salty please take it back. No apology, no offer of anything else even though he said he didn't want anything else (because we waited long enough) but didn't even offer. His soup was good though when he finally got it. So mine was okay, edible but not what I remembered the last time we were there. He sat there quietly while I ate. The server came over to see if we wanted anything else and my husband said flatly because he was hungry tired and disappointed " just the check please". Well she yelled " you don't have to have an attitude!" She came back with the check and he said sorry and I didn't say it like that and she yelled again " you were nasty!" And walked through the dining room yelling he's nasty! We paid our bill and as we were leaving he said goodbye and thank you and see said " yeah" So we should have went to Danny's when we passed it coming into town but wanted to go to Rainbow Lodge because it's been a while. 1 star is 1 star too many!!!!! We went there for my birthday last year, and they DID NOT tell us they rented out 95% of the dinning room... Not only could I not talk to the person sitting right next to me; but I COULDN'T hear the people at our table of 6. Did they offer us anything for our inconvenience? "NO!" The management knew we were very very upset. Will NEVER GO BACK!!! And we spent a lot of money. Go to the Schoolhouse, they will take care of you. read more

The service was great, and it's a beautiful place. The Prime rib was cold and tough, but was well seasoned, no Au Jus on the side. Clearly Prime Rib is not their specialty as there are places not too far away that specialize in Prime Rib who do alot better for significantly less money. The Bloody Mary tasted like horseradish with a bit of tomato juice over...but the presentation was great. Ya gotta go once to know that you will never go back! Very expensive for sub par food. Beautiful lake out front with great lighting and Christmas decorations, and a beautiful Nativity Scene in the dining room, so they obviously don't fear liberal morons. I do like that. read more

Food was okay , but the ribs were extremely dry that my father got, and the service was extremely slow, the servers were very nice so if you have time and are not in a hurry, it's not a bad place for where it is. read more

Service was good. Been there twice and each time was not happy. The first time I ordered fried chicken and got a Portuguese version in some type of sauce.. not a fan. The second time onion soup and beef dip sandwich. Husband ordered colard greens soup and rainbow pasta, his was fabulous. Mine, the soup was Luke warm at best, his was steaming hot. The roast beef on my sandwich was sliced as thin as paper ( Arby's style) was cold and even my au jus to dip the sandwich was barely warm. Again I chose poorly. The first time there my friend had roast beef and it was nicely sliced and better tasting than what we both got this time. I'll go once in a while as the both hubs like the rainbow pasta and we'll settle for soup & an appetizer. Too bad because even though the food hasn't been great, the service is good and the atmosphere is nice. read more

The place is in a beautiful setting . Our waitress was excellent. The food was not great. My husband and I both got the rainbow pasta. The menu said there would be shrimp, scallops and clams. However, they had made it a special and the specialty board said shrimp, scallops, and crab. When we got our food, there were no clams and what they were calling crab is actually imitation crab or a.k.a. Pollock. For the price And the fact that they said it would be crab. They should have listed it as imitation crab as there was no crab at all. The bread was great. The shrimp was ok. The scallops were mushy as was the Pollock. I imagine they have a pile of this in the back on low and just dish it out. I don't think it's made fresh as you order. The food came out super fast . I ate two shrimp and the five scallops one bite of the Pollock. My husband on the other hand, ate quite a bit of his and he was up all night running to the bathroom. We had a similar experience over the summer when we had ordered the stuffed lobster. My lobster was the consistency of mashed potatoes overcooked. When we had that experience, I messaged the restaurant personally just to let them know how awful the lobster was so maybe they wouldn't overcook it next time. I did not review on yelp thinking of how hard that could be on a business.The manager was not nice and insisted that her chef was an excellent chef. She did not take it well. At that time we felt we wouldn't go back. But we went back last night March 14, 2025. And now we have had two bad experiences there. Just beware of the seafood dishes. False advertising! Crab is not pollock. If the menu says clams there should be clams. Our appetizer was fried clam strips and they were over cooked . We are not picky eaters and we go out to dinner every week . I have a cabin located in the Walton area for my entire life and never heard of the Rainbow Lodge up until this past weekend from a good friend of mine. We came for lunch on Saturday and the first thing I noticed as we drove up the long driveway was this beautiful man-made lake in front of the restaurant with a large deck you can walk out on and take a peak into the water. The parking lot was pretty empty and once we walked in we saw two large parties of people sitting down and enjoying themselves. We were seated and looked over the menu while our waiter came over to take our drink orders and explain the daily specials. We ended up ordering the fried clam strips to start off with and we all got the option of a salad bar or soup with our entrees. The fried clam strips were large and full of flavor. Personally I prefer smaller clams but these were good. The salad bar was really great, tons of toppings and fixins but the part that really got me was the butter bar. The butter bar had four different butters to choose from to put on their hot and fresh homemade bread. Out of the 4 I tried the honey cinnamon butter and garlic butter and both were delicious on that fresh bread. For entrees we all ordered the same thing ( they copied me ) the sirloin steak special. The steak came out nice and juicy and cooked to a perfect medium, for my side I ordered the mashed potatoes with gravy. The steak had a nice flavor to it and I really enjoyed the seasoning on top of it, the mashed potatoes were so good and the gravy just elevated the whole experience. Once we finished stuffing our faces I stepped outside for a smoke with my friends and noticed a vending machine as soon as you walk in that sold fish food for a quarter so I grabbed a quarter and purchased some fish food and walked out onto the deck. I threw some of the food into the water and was amazed at what I saw. HUGE rainbow trout swimming everywhere. I was so excited at the size of these fish that I immediately sent a video to my father who responded where the hell are you and where the hell are those fish! After hanging outside for a little bit we went back inside and I spoke to the waiter and asked him about fishing in the lake... it only happens twice a year and none of which am I of age to attend. They have a fishing event for children between the ages of 4-12 or something like that so needless to say I have missed my chance at fishing in this lake. So the rainbow Lodge has finally reopened and we were so excited to go back there. We went for dinner about three weeks ago with a small group and had a really nice night. The food was good, the salad bar was sufficient, the prices were reasonable, the staff were friendly. We went back a week later and they had new menus - my $25 meal is now $32, my husbands $19 meal is now $27 and the steak dinner that several friends had gotten for $32 is now $40!! I understand that prices are going up on everything these days but an increase of 7 and 8 dollars is a 25% increase per item- that is not consumer friendly. We will not be going back to the Rainbow Lodge. And sadly, I'm not so sure that they will be in business for very long, they are out pricing themselves. read more

My first and last experience at the Rainbow lodge was very disappointing. Kennedy, our server, was very nice and was as helpful as she could be considering the the amateurish manner with which the kitchen was run. We made a reservation. We were a table of 5, waited a very long time for any food to arrive, and then only 4 of us got food. The fifth meal arrived about 25 minutes later. The salmon and pork ribs, that were the special, were over cooked. The broccoli side was cooked to mush. The salad bar was not even well stocked with lettuce. People had to wait until salad bar items were brought out and had to rush over before everything was gone again. This was especially bad for the person at our table that only ordered soup and the salad bar. The food that wasn't over cooked was mediocre at best, with little spice or flavor. The ginger shrimp were okay but didn't taste like ginger. The pork rib special was dry and tasted only of salt and pepper. The pepper steak was not even peppery. For all of the trouble we weren't even offered a free drink or discount. Overall, the Rainbow Lodge was loud, far too expensive, and the food was very disappointing. We went 2 weeks ago, I was eating inside, about 20 flies, were all over my food, and drink, I could not take it anymore, could not wait to leave, for the prices they charge, and eating inside, there is not reason there should be flies all over me, and my food. This restaurant and tavern has a strong sportsman's theme. Yeungling on tap. The large dining room has a centrally located salad bar. A nicely landscaped path leads down to a trout pond with outdoor dining area and space for live music performances. The crowd skews toward middle aged. The servers are nice and the food is a cut above what I expected in a place like this. If a fried shrimp basket or a burger is what you want they have you covered. The roast beef au jus is exactly like that found in famous LA sandwich joints. A few slightly more upscale offerings are available on the three page menu as well. No gourmet anything here, but everything I tasted was both delicious and very fairly priced. The cheddar & mushroom burger ($5.75) was a standout. The Rainbow Lodge is not out to fleece their customers, as evidenced by the number of locals hanging there on a Friday night. The place might not be a magnet for folks in young 20's, but they would be unlikely to have any gripes with the food and prices. If a place like this existed in the city patrons would be likely to love it in an ironic way, but there's not even a trace of irony here. No need for it. The Rainbow Lodge gets a fourth star for value, plain and simple. Yes, it's a theme restaurant/bar serving the kind of food such places typically serve. It's the good idea so many chain restaurants have taken and ruined, jacking up the prices in the process. The food here is good, the setting is great, service is friendly (thanks, Barbara!) and the prices are very reasonable. It's not the kind of place I'd typically go to, but I'd happily return. They're doing what they do very well here! read more

My family and I have dined here since it was known as Telstar. Always stop for lunch when we are riding (snowmobiles). Winter or summer the food is always good, plentiful, and fairly priced. I was afraid that it would go downhill after Jacks passing but so far so good! Jannette (Jacks widow) is doing a great job. From burgers to complete dinners give The Rainbow a try. Lots of fun for the whole family! First of all, if you've never been there, you won't believe where it is! Waaaaay out of the way and up a slightly paved road -- you're in a clearing with a large pond on top of a hill with heavily wooded mountains around. Simply beautiful! There are Koi and ducks to feed, which kids will enjoy. A great place for a reception -- in good weather, that is. Good substantial food and a woodsy lodge atmosphere. We recommend it! read more

Food is very good. Mixed drinks very overpriced at $7 for very small glass. Used to be basically an easygoing bar crowd. Lately a few vulgar and profane regulars. To avoid trouble, have your meal in the back and keep your wife, girlfriend or kids away from the bar. Too bad. read more
