I got my nails done here with "gel" which is actually just acrylic powder that they put under a uv light so they can charge you more. They filed my nails down so low with the drill they actually bruised all my nail beds. They cut me many times cutting my cuticles and filing my nails as well. The polish application was subpar and the nail shapes were off as well my nails all fell off on their own very quickly. Overall was a bad experience. read more

This place is the most unprofessional place I've ever been to. I have a gift certificate from a couple years ago worth $110. I lost it and then found it and wanted to use it. No one ever told me they ever expired and it makes no sense to say it expires as they took $110 for no services. It does not make any sense. Anyways I went in and they told me they can't take it because it's 2 years old. It was still on file that it was UNUSED. She told me to call the manager. I've been calling everyday for 3 weeks. They say "he's not in" and hang up before I even say anything. This is ridiculous. They cannot just take $110 from me for NO SERVICES and give our FALSE INFO. I went in, having heard mixed reviews, but thought I would give them a try and treat myself to a gel manicure before school. I even showed the lady a photo of exactly what I wanted. I got the farthest thing from what I showed her. The only thing I like is the colour: the nails are too thick, none of them are the same length or shape, I asked for squared tips with rounded edges and I just got a mess. When I asked her to fix things, she would half-ass the fixing and just ended up making things worse. I've had them on for an hour and I already want to take them off. I'm going back tomorrow and demanding that they fix them, because it's not what I wanted. If they refuse, I hope another nail salon will fix them for me. read more

I called today to make four substantial reservations and the person that answered the phone could not speak English then put me on the phone with someone else that could not speak English. Horrible experience! Dirty, unsanitary and the end result was bad! French shellac and manicure. There were dirty nail clippings on the towel when I sat down. I asked for a clean towel - she just shook the clippings onto the floor and proceeded. Tools were not sanitized. She wiped someone elses skin off the cuticle pusher and cutter and she cut me! Horrible job overall. My cuticles were not pushed back, I have hangnails, the polish does not go to the top of nail and the french is uneven and you can see through it. Not to mention she continuously scraped her nails under and around mine. Yuck!! $50 later, not sure why I paid for any of it. The next day I went back and complained and asked for a refund. The guy just kept saying he would give me a discount on other services. NO thanks!!! And never again read more

I had my nails done yesterday here for the first and last time. I was moved from the nail station chairs not once, not twice but three times, because I could hear the different workers talking about not wanting to do my nails. Originally i went in wanting acrylics with a white tip, apparently they do these alot and are annoyed by this.I ended up getting a Shellac overlay done on my finger nails because the employee said the acrylic wouldnt look good on my nails. Not even 24hrs after the appointment EVERY finger is lifting. I called today to inform the manager of what happened wanting them fixed for free or a full refund. The lady on the phone REFUSED to put the manager on the phone and hung up on me. Terrible customer service and zero refund policy here. Be warned folks!! I stopped in to have my acrylic nails filled in because it was convenient and seemed like a busy, popular place. Big mistake! I was told the nails should be removed and new set put on. I'm new to this and said ok. Again huge mistake!!!! I wish I had taken the time to read previous reviews before going in because it looks like I'm not the only one who's had similar bad experiences here. There was no soaking/dissolving the nails off. Oh no, that would be too civilized. Instead a nail tip was slid under the artificial nail and across my real nail. This resulted in half of my upper nail being sliced off along with part of my nail bed. The artificial nail was now off, but so was part of my nail and finger. Yes there was lot of bleeding. Incredibly, no one was concerned nor apologized and I was told its ok and don't worry, will grow back in 2 days. Oh.. really!!! I also observed tools being shared, dirty nail files being reused, dirty towels, and stations not being reset between clients. I got my done nails here at the Halifax shopping center with my friend and got a simple polish change. Communication was very hard, it was difficult to understand where to go and we had to wait with our colors after booking a appointed because no one told us where to go. Once she was done she made me dry my hands with a bath heater wich caused multiple air bubbles. When it was time to pay she told us we couldn't touch anything then proceeded to open our bags for us and take the money out without permission, luckily she didnt scam us. The day after I got my nails done I noticed small chips, it has now been 3 days and both our nails are extremely chipped. This was the WORST service I have ever had. Got a set of acrylic nails that were put on looking like they had already grown out, so I give this place a second chance. I go in to get them filled ONE time. The next day a nail broke off, a lady fixed it. Sure enough the next day ANOTHER breaks off. Let's be clear, I work in an office and I don't do anything strenuous and have had fake nails for YEARS. So I get them fixed, AGAIN. Perfect everything's fine. The next day ANOTHER nail breaks off, they tried to blame me for this garbage service and customer experience that I have NEVER had before. I took my 14 year old step daughters to rainbow nails today for graduation nails. I went inside to discuss with the lady at the front desk about price and how much they had to spend and was very clear on what they were having done. As soon as I left they immediately started trying to add on to what they were having done and up sell them. I understand that this is common practice with adults but it's absolutely shameful to rip off a child! Her 30 dollar nails ended up being 60 dollars ! And than to add insult to injury the woman who did her nails bullied my step daughter into saying that she agreed to pay 30 dollars more for her nails! It's disgusting and poor work ethic to rip off a child ! So if you bring your teen in to get their nails done, don't leave there side! read more

While the manicure did end up being okay, (Can't speak for long term) the salon experience was not the greatest. I had several problems. The first was that, when making an appointment, the person on the other end did not take my name, so I was already worried going into it. At the start of the mani, the artist applied one nail and then left for around 10-15 minutes. When she came back, the job felt very rushed and the technician was constantly picking up her phone and texting/playing games. This customer service was not where it could have been. My problems with the actual nail were also apparent. I had acrylic nails done, and for this service it says, on the website, that they are $35 with colour. I was charged $60, the price of gel nails, which they were not. They also did not do my nails the right colour and were quite rough, making one nail bleed. The mani turned out fine but the service could certainly have been a lot better and I will most likely not go to them again. Also note, I tried to get the done last week on Sunday but called to make an appointment and was told that they're closed on Sundays, even though on the Google page, it says they are open 12-5; just a heads up. read more

They did not put the right sizes on some nailsand some are crooked, the gel is not even and some sides are thicker then others, they left bumps on my right thumb after not filing it properly, I also had to go back and have the underneaths filed because they left big blobs of gel That was hooking on stuff. I find it a pleasant environment and the work is always careful and satisfactory. The prices are excellent. I am currently home from work because my toe is infected after going to Rainbow Nails!!! I am not talking a little infection, I am talking full of puss, blood, disgusting mess infection! The nurse's words when looking at it yesterday, "That is gross". As my polish was drying I noticed the lady next to me have a 'tool' used on her foot, and then the lady doing the work got up, threw it in the 'oven' and take out another one. Didn't seem sanitary to me. And now that I am sitting here not able to walk, I know that it is not sanitary in the least. They are very rough with your feet as well. The man brings out this hard brush to go over all the skin on your foot. It hurts! I have never had my pedicure hurt before, I should have known! I also agree with the other posters, there are no base coats applied to your nails. Not that it matters if they are using dirty equipment you should just avoid at all costs. I had got acrylic nails put on at another really amazing salon on Lower Water Street, and had been meaning to go back to get them removed. I was shopping around HSC and my nails weren't looking too good anymore so I decided I'd just go into rainbow Nails to get them taken off. They said that was fine and didn't talk to me very much, but it was THE most painful thing in the world. She took off huge chunks of my nails, ripped them down to the skin and left them looking AWFUL. Acrylics can weaken the nail, yes, but should not leave your nails in poor condition like that if removed correctly. They did the absolute worst job. Would never go again. read more

A friend who gets her nails done all the time took me into this place to get a pedicure done as a pick me up. I picked a blue for my toes and then the woman put on a design without being asked - which of course, they charged me for (10$). When I took off the nail polish, my nails were disgustingly blue. I went to the Head Shoppe in hopes to get it fixed or find out if I had fungus or anything, they told me that it was probably because the girl had filed the tops of my toe nails and then put the blue on without a basecoat, therefore staining the nail bed. I was in town for a wedding and went here with the majority of the bridal party to have manicures and pedicures done and honestly if I could give this place zero stars... I would! The issues with this place are countless! 1. I got gel nails done and they did not actually give me a manicure, they simply applied the nails. I walked out of here with hangnails and uncut cuticles. 2. The tips are not all the correct sizes. On some fingers they're too wide, on others they are too narrow. 3. A couple nails were put on crooked. 4. Varying amounts of my actual nail beds visible making a few of my fingers look unnecessarily stumpy. 5. Excess glue left under my nails. 6. Gel is uneven on quite a few of my nails making them feel lumpy. 7. Design isn't the same on each nail. 8. No top or bottom coat on toes. 9. Not asked how long or short I want my nails. 10. Not asked if I wanted gel nails, acrylic, or bio-gel... they simply assumed because the one regular customer in the bunch usually gets gel that's what we all wanted. There were a few other issues but I'm sure you get a general understanding. I complained while still in the salon about a few of the issues I noticed and they attempted to fix but the end result was still mediocre at best. What a waste of time and money. I had a shellac polish service and it took over 1.5 hours as she had to redo several nails and the end result was unevenly cut, bumpy, and bubbly. When I asked to speak to the manager he sat on the phone for a good 5 minutes and after he got off he said he was busy. The woman next to me left equally disappointed as her nails weren't fully painted down to her cuticles. You'd think they would be embarrassed, but based on the nonchalant response to my disappointment with the service it's clear that they are used to unhappy customers. Went in for a pedicure as I had been to this place a few times and it was okay. The lady ended up cutting both my big toes so badly, and then tried to stop the bleeding for half and hour. Eventually she apologized and told me that she didn't want to put the polish on because the blood would show through (both my toenails were completely lined with blood at this point). She said to come back tomorrow and she would paint them. I explained that I have a baby at home and didn't have a babysitter tomorrow. When I went to the front another lady rang me up for full price. I explained what happened and she told me it was my choice whether to get polish or not but it was the same price. I got my nails done at Rainbow Nails. I asked for gel nails and they assured me that I was getting Gel nails. They used a powder from a jar that they had Gel OPI written on. I'm not 100% famillar with the Gel products so I assumed that what I was getting was actual Gel nails. After getting home I did some research and discovered that gel nails does not come in a powdered form. They had actually given me acrylic nails with a gel top coat and charged me for a full set of gel nails. I am not impressed with this business and would advise prospective customers to go elsewhere.. Worst Pedicure I've EVER had in Halifax.... Three people came in while I was sitting on the chair complaining about their past services needing 'fixing' (i.e. nails, shellac, etc.). The young, very restless girl who provided my service exfoliated the TOP of my feet, completely ignoring the bottom of my feet (really?). She took my existing polish off with the acrylic grinder/sander instead of acetone, saying it was completely safe. She was more concerned with the gossip and conversation with the rest of the staff than with providing a service, which resulted in my leaving with a rash up both legs. To top it all off, she rushed me out of the chair saying "Be Careful" when really she just wanted to get another client in, and took the nail polish right off my pinky toe. Instead of fixing it, she just hastily spread another uneven coat and sent me on my way. I don't know why they have to many bad reviews, I have gone there for four years, ask for ridiculously obnoxious nails and they do great every time. Love the owner, he's hilarious. I think sometimes they could paint the nails better but the work is quality and the atmosphere is nice :) It's your fault if you don't take good care of your nails once you leave the salon. I haven't had a nail break from there EVER. I think the people leaving bad reviews decided they'd go get their nails done this one time bc it was at the mall and they end up not knowing what they should get or how to take care of them so of course they're not going to end well. If you get just a manicure of course the polish is going to chip? The first time I went there, the lady was very rude and did a terrible job on my nails - there weren't two the same. Also, I had made an appointment in advance, but that made no difference in the time I had to wait. The man at the desk didn't even check to see if I had an appointment. I did go back a second time, and Sarah did a very nice job on - she also kept a conversation going with me, because (she said) she wanted to learn as much English as possible (good). Then I went to pay!!!! I was charged more than anticipated and he was very rude. Another thing I don't like, is the employees talk and laugh among themselves in his/her own language - doesn't make one feel too comfortable. I went to another salon to have the nails removed a few weeks later. I find out I didn't have gel nails (that I paid for) and it was very difficult to have them removed. My "own" nails were an absolute mess and it took several months for them to recover. I will never go back to Rainbow nails, and I would even consider recommending them to somebody else! read more
