It had a lovely coal effect gas fire and very comfortable sofas. The kitchen had all utensils you could wish for a lovely view of the rear garden which is attracts all kinds of birds. You can just watch them for hours. The bedrooms and bathroom were just perfect. The views from the cottage were second to none, as it's on a hill (with Old Man behind it) you get a view of Coniston lake and village and to the left the Langdale pikes. The cottage is just minutes away from the town and local pubs. I can't recommend this cottage enough and can't wait to go back again.

It is set in a vally next to a lake and is ideal destination for walkers or just for those seeking a quiet romantic break. Rooms are comfortable rather than luxurious. The communal lounges are grand, and open fires roar, making it feel homely. Dinner is silver service and very posh, the food here is amazing and it is worth the trip here just to sample it. As well as the restaurant they also serve bar meals which are also very good if you want something a bit more informal.

Dependent on which part of the hotel you choose to stay in totally determines the quality of your experience. Be aware that the more you pay the more likely you will sleep soundly. If you get a room in the original wing then be prepared for overhearing conversations from other rooms and people passing through the corridor. caveat emptor ... STEER WELL CLEAR of a room next to the lift. There is no doubt that you will dine well here and the Lodore is famous for it's Spa. It is the epitome of class. The downside, the staff are in need of some serious hospitality training. This is a management issue and someone needs to take a long hard look at their policy of employing young people and then throwing them in to the fray. Not good. At all. You would have to travel a long way to find a Hotel in such a wondrous location but, then again, you will also have to travel a long way to get to Lodore Falls. You choose. #ipsofacto

The Inn is quaint, charming, and comfortable and the staff are kind, welcoming and accommodating! We arrived and were immediately happy with the safe and private parking accommodations. We actually arrived very late that evening, and called ahead, they waited up for us and were so kind upon arrival. The Hotel is SO charming, cute and cozy. The aesthetic is charming English cottage, while also being updated and feeling clean. The hotel rooms themselves are more modern (though unique) to give you all of the comforts of home - my fave being the towel warmer. Our room was wonderfully clean (and I'm a stickler on cleanliness!) and the bed was so comfortable, especially after a long drive. It was such a comfortable and clean place to lay our heads for the evening. The hotel has a restaurant that I would also recommend. Breakfast was incredible - one of the first hotel breakfasts where I haven't had to douse in pepper haha. Well seasoned and well cooked, high quality ingredients. Jonathan is a wonderful chef. My husband said the hollandaise was one of the best he's ever had. I'd recommend stopping by for sure, and don't miss breakfast! The hotel is also very unique in that they have local goods/art around the hotel, both as decor and for sale. Such a sweet touch. We bought one of Caroline's paintings - she's multi talented! If you're looking for an old hunting lodge, the try the Merewood property. Or for a relaxed country retreat, there's always Briery Wood. The staff are really nice as staff in youth hostels usually are. You can cook in their kitchens if you bring your own food (fridges, pans, plates, etc. are all provided) and eat it down on the banks of the lake. Really great place to base yourself out of for trips around this area of the lake district. You can take buses to most places in the lake district from ambleside, although they do seem to be very expensive. Overall a really really good place to stay.
