Very poor customer service. Rude answers to questions. I felt like I was treated with disdain for wanting to spend my money there.

A formerly fun store that has unfortunately devolved into tourist trap with overpriced merchandise and poor customer service. Staff acts like they are doing you a favor to answer questions or process sales in an expedient manner. There are better options in Vineyard Haven for similar merchandise. read more

I like popping in here, mostly because I now have two small children and you can find nicely curated gifts, toys, clothes and more, with a solid selection of said goods on sale from last season. Peeking at other reviews, I haven't experienced a brusque or non-present staff, but each day is different - some rainier than others. Is it a destination retail spot? Not necessarily. But if you like pricier goods way better than beachside T-shirt shacks where all things are $7.99, so sez the neon price tag, then Rainy Day is worth a pop in while cruising the Haven's storefront stretch. read more

Nice assortment of gift items but expect to wait a long time to be served. Store associates will not greet you (looked like owners or managment). Probably our worst customer service experience in all of Martha's Vineyard. Sad because the store is cute and has many speciality trinkets and items. We chose to take our business elsewhere. The geriatric lady with the cane behind me kept joking about "soiling" herself because the check out line was so slow. Management walked by, saw the line and kept on counting inventory. Reviewer "H L." had one thing write when he or she said this wasn't the right place to buy "a cheap souvenir". It's true. If you want cheap junk with the words "Martha's Vineyard" on it, you'll have to go elsewhere. But oh, what a delightful store!! I've been coming here for years, and it's always been a favorite of mine. My mother, who lives on the island, also loves to shop here, and they are ALWAYS polite to her. They also offer a 15% SENIOR DISCOUNT on Tuesdays. And I believe they accept "The Island Card" on most items, if you're a local. This is one of my favorite places to find gifts for friends and family members. It's a decidedly feminine offering, with everything from beautiful mugs to baby clothes to Burt's Bees products and jewelry. I most recently found the most beautiful orange butterfly hairclip here for $2.75, and 2 large lobster-themed "chowdah" mugs on sale for $7.50/each! Their selection of cards for all occasions is fantastic by any standards, unique and beautiful, funny, etc. And they have all sorts of other quirky gift ideas, even for the males of the species (although overall, this store will probably get passed by by most men). Sadly, this store is NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. That's sadly very typical of Martha's Vineyard. Even if a wheelchair could somehow get up the front steps, the store is so tight, it'd be hard to maneuver around. You know the best time to go to this wonderful, whimsical store? On a rainy day when there's nothing else to do and you can't go to the beach. I'm guessing, hence the name. read more

This is one of those small, ever changing gift stores that usually tugs at my purse strings when I visit. (In fact, I got my current hand bag there.) The door is always propped open and it's filled with colorful, cute gifts and household items. They have new products to show off each time I stop in, featuring seasonal treats for every holiday, and they have super sales and specials all the time. The staff couldn't be more pleasant, even when faced with grumbling crowds and busy shopping times, like Christmas Eve and Valentine's Day. I'd say that their strengths are the cards, kids' items (cute toys and clothes), a few unique hand made items like jewelry and lampshades, and the little treats you can pick up for Easter or Halloween. I do stay away from their napkins and linens as they are outlandishly expensive. (I get that kind of thing at The Christmas Tree Shop in Falmouth after making a very expensive mistake here one time.) I always hope to find Christmas ornaments here, which I like giving as gifts, but I do not like their choices at all. Too glittery and made in China. I wish they had more hand made, unique ornaments, despite the higher cost. The ones they sell here are just mass produced and cheap looking. While some of the gifts here are expensive, in general it is quite affordable, making it popular among local families when they are looking for birthday gifts and special treats for themselves. Don't you just love the smell of rainy day when you walk in? They have a great selection of unique gift cards (not the hallmark variety), nice mugs & saucers, rugs, candles, yummy bath accessories, powders, and interesting, thoughtful toys. They also have jewelery and some fun candies. I really, really love Rainy Day. Excellent gift shop. Way better than much of the touristy crap found in Vineyard Haven - this is a store for the whole island to enjoy. read more

I always try to make a stop here. They have a nice assortment of home items, from cards and stationary, to interesting water pitchers and plates. I always seem to find things there that are interesting and useful. My favorite is the kitschy kitchen tools (ie the spoon rest shaped like a pillow). But there are so many products in the store, that it can feel a little overwhelming. The shelves are packed and it can be hard to find what you are looking for. It's fun to browse the items in the store, but I wouldn't go there if you are in a huge rush to find something very specific. read more

Nice small collection of decorative housewares, women's resort wear, children's clothes and toys, seaside-themed giftware, greeting cards, jewelry and other knickknacks. I don't usually find much to buy (I might if I had a vacation home here) but love browsing at the colorful and cute things in the store. read more

The Rainy Day gift shop is the #1 gift shop on the island and for good reason. The staff are so kind, sweet, and very helpful. The selection is enormous, and well thought out, not to mention unique. There are many treasures in this little shop, but don't overlook the hand crafted items from the vineyard. There is also a toy section for kids and things like kites and buckets for a day at the beach. Heather and her team are wonderful, so stop on by the Rainy Day gift shop, rain or shine! read more

agree with other reviewers...staff (manager/owner?) VERY rude. they act like they're doing you a favor by selling their crap to you. I don't know, some people say the staff was pleasant, most say not...maybe different staff on different days, again, possibly the manager/owner. wouldn't go back if everything was free...don't need to be treated poorly like that. read more
