Food was awesome, naan was great and so were the Balti dishes. Service was attentive but overly so.

We were in Inverness, Scotland last week and tried the Rajah restaurant. The staff was very attentive and we enjoyed our meal.

Hmm....this has been lingering in my "You have 9384892 unfinished reviews section" for the past two…read moremonths, maybe I should wrap it up. Totally different style of Indian food than I had eaten anywhere in Scotland (and we all know that they love their Indian food in the UK!). I was surprised that inside there were posters on the wall of famous chefs who had come in for a meal and loved it. Perhaps it's because I'm not a famous chef, but I certainly did not agree. The food seemed like a dumbded-down version of Indian. The spicy dishes were mild to slightly medium. The mild dishes were waaaaay mild, but SUPERRRR garlicky. And EVERYTHING had butter. The waiter tried to tell me that all Indian food has butter in it, including the rice, which is of course ridiculous. (duh, does he know me?). The manager said that he would try to make a "special" dish for me without the butter, which turned out mediocre, but whateves. The food wasn't bad per say, but definitely not up to the typical UK standard. The service was friendly and attentive; it seems that everything in Inverness shuts down pretty early, so when we stopped in for dinner, the streets were empty and there was only one other couple dining in -- so maybe that had something to do with it. Prices weren't too bad, but definitely not anything special enough to add stars for. There are a handful of Indian places up in Inverness, and if you're looking to grab a bite and don't want mild food, I'd suggest trying one of the other spots first (I'm just sorry we didn't get to).

The range of dishes is decent, it's reasonably priced and the flavours are excellent. Staff are very friendly and attentive without being creepy. It's got that old-skool Indian restaurant feel to it in terms of decor etc, which I kinda like in a pseudo-retro way. If you don't like that kind of decor, get over yourself and tuck in to some cracking scran.

Having had a shockingly disappointing experience at the other indian restaurant in Dingwall, to the…read moreextent we actually had to leave (see other review) my wife went into the Dingwall Tandoori Restaurant with no booking (despite the restaurant being fairly busy) and were made very welcome with no problems whatsoever. The food was absolutely excellent and the staff were all polite, very helpful and extremely keen to make sure you had a good experience - so in other words the staff were really good. Slightly dated decor now, but still a nice and airy restaurant situated in the heart of Dinwall with easy parking right outside the front door (and alternative parking very close by). It is cheap in comparison to other indian restaurants and so if you are looking for some good quality indian cuisine I can definitely recommend the Dingwall Tandoori Restaurant.
