I began going to Raleigh Dermatology last year and had a biopsy of a site. It came back inconclusive, yet never resolved. Fast forward to this year, they biopsied the same spots and it is a life changing diagnosis. A referral was sent to a specialist, only it was never received by the specialist. I've spent days calling back and forth to get the referral sent. The staff would not resend it (although I confirmed with the specialist that they had not received it), until the following business day, which is over a weekend. With the exception of one person, no one was apologetic or sympathetic at RD. Also, 3 out of the 4 times I have come for a visit, there has been a 30+ minute wait. I am disappointed. read more

Same yourself time and aggravation! Place has changed so much and not for the better. My kids and I all went here till recently since Ginger left and thankfully we moved from the area. Needed a letter for the FAA for a medication my son is on and they wouldn't provide it because Ginger wasn't there any more even though we were patients of RD for 13 years. I had a lipoma removal procedure performed by Dr. Watson at Raleigh Dermatology a year ago, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Watson was professional, attentive, and clearly skilled, making the procedure smooth and comfortable. However, my experience was significantly marred by the office's billing issues. The front desk assistants incorrectly billed my insurance, leading to complications that ultimately required my insurance to intervene. Over the past year, I noticed that Raleigh Dermatology has outsourced their billing department, which has resulted in a frustrating phone tree and poor communication. The office itself doesn't deal with billing at all and will not help you with insurance/billing questions. Rather than calling and asking about any insurance updates, they send me a bill for the full amount for a procedure that was done over a year ago. I found myself receiving relentless calls from their outsourced billing team, which felt more like harassment than assistance. Unfortunately, due to the lack of customer care from the non-medical staff, I cannot recommend Raleigh Dermatology. While the medical care provided by Dr. Watson was excellent, the billing experience was overwhelming and, honestly, awful. read more

I saw Steve Watson for my acne. My face was breaking out suddenly and he was able to see me for an appointment quickly. I was able to complete my paperwork ahead of time so check in did not take long and I only waited a few minutes before being called back. He was very attentive and his assistant was so nice. I had to get my prescription from a special pharmacy but it was easy and they delivered it to me. My follow up appointment is in a few weeks but my skin is already looking much better. Will definitely be recommending them to others! read more

I have been going to Raleigh dermatology since 1990s. Dr Puente was so wonderful. Since he has left and this new management group has taken over -it is so frustrating. I'm now on hold to talk to someone and it's been 7 min and counting. Called yesterday and never got thru to ANYONE! This us just to try and schedule an apppt. DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went there for several years of appointments. Each time I asked about a brown spot on my face. The person said it was fine-no problem. I asked a friend where she went for her treatments. Went to the new doctor. He took a biopsy and told me that the spot was cancer. It was so deep that they had to do three removals of the cancer and then had to send me to a plastic surgeon to have the removal spot repaired!!!! Since then I have had to have five other cancer spots removed. These people do not know what they are doing! read more

My son and I have been patients off and on since 2005 or so. I try to stay with one provider because I prefer knowing that I don't have to deal with records transfers and my medical history, in whatever way one event might relate to another, is all in one place. However, I've tried to avoid going to Raleigh Dermatology if it's anything my GP can handle. It feels like you're a dollar sign, in, out, here's your prescription. They smile politely, display all the practiced cues of active listening, then patiently explain that they know better than you what's going on, in spite of your personal observations and experience. Here's your prescription du jour. I've never once walked out thinking, "I feel we collaborated to create a comprehensive plan that will improve my situation." That has never happened. It feels like there's zero interest in truly getting to the bottom of or resolving your issue. Important items: 1 - I've never seen a doctor. Not one single time that I can recall. If I have seen one, it was over 10 years ago. The doctor seems to do the cosmetic procedures and the PAs handle the run-of-the-mill medical work. 2 - Their patient portal is garbage. I've even taken the step of working with front desk staff and it's useless. I have no clue why they have it unless some drug company is paying for it and it's for show, because they DO NOT use it. When I told them I couldn't get in and explained how it wasn't working, they were like, "Yeah..." 3 - Prescription causing problems? Here's a new prescription. The reason for the problem is irrelevant. We can talk about it during your next visit. Nothing scheduled? Let's take care of that... are you available Thursday at 2? After 10 years of patience and attempts, I have come to believe it's in my best interests to switch to a provider affiliated with my GP. read more

I have been going to Raleigh Dermatology for years. I really like Dr. Keane but the office staff are mean and rude and now the nurses who also are in the exam room are mean and rude. Stay away!!! My wife went here for a spot on her nose she was concerned about. Never saw an actual Doctor, seems like a money machine where the doctor is on perpetual vacation, while 2 year PA's act like they are doctors. They missed the spot twice on her nose, then misdiagnosed a spot on her shoulder, then recommended the most radical option for removal without the actual Doctor having a look at it. Oh ya, they charge by the inch. The bigger the scar the more they make. Awesome economic incentive for them to make the right recommendation. (sarcasm) These people are horrible human beings, you should run away fast. When my wife raised the issue kindly that she had come back twice for a simple freeze removal, and it was missed twice, the PA (Michael Keene), said he had 20 years experience doing this, so it was not possible that he missed it twice. God complex, and he didn't even have to graduate for a top med school. My wife has 45 years experience with her nose, it might beat the 10 minutes he spent with her before hitting the wrong spot twice. Oh Mike, little medical advice to you. As we age our eyes can begin to fail, sometimes requiring eye glasses. So those 20 years don't help a bunch if you are in denial about your vision. His recommendation was that we give him another try because the spot he missed was really a problem, crazy. What a friggn loser. This place is a real dog's breakfast, bad customer service, an absent doctor, and PA's that clearly make it difficult for you to know that they are not actually Doctors. Run away!!!!!! If you want to pay for a dermatologist go where they actually have them. (P.S. All they had to do to avoid a negative yelp, was refund the hundred buck copay they charged us for freezing the wrong spot twice.) read more

Other than the PA, Ginger Atkinson, I have not been impressed. I had to fill out the same forms online and in person. I sat half naked on a cold examination table for 10-15 minutes while the nurse spoke to someone else about Joe Jeans and their daughter's high school goals before they got the PA. The nurse was not familiar with most medical information. I tried returning a phone call regarding my biopsy results and could not remember the person's name, and got "well, we have 30 people working here" in response. Then I was forwarded to another office (?) where I was told "a nurse has to give you that information and no nurses are available." Biopsy results are important information, especially to me after I told them that my father has had 10 surgeries for skin cancer. My call has yet to be returned. Honestly, I do not think I will return to them. I may request my records and go elsewhere. read more

I will be doing a follow up review for this one. I had to make an appointment just a little over a month ahead as a new patient. So keep that in mind when you are considering them. I was scheduled with Dr. Keene. He was nice, thorough and genuine. He was positive and confident on his examination which made me feel taken care of and hopeful of his analysis. Everyone made me feel welcoming and there was barely anyone in the waiting area which seems like they have their scheduling to patient consultations ratio in check. read more

The absolute worst dermatologist. Do not go here. First, they need a receptionist who is not unhappy. This is your patient's first impression. The schedulers are clueless. I had two separate appointments canceled at the last minute due to waiting periods between treatments not being long enough. Finally, the poor doctor has no personality or bedside manner. My last mohr surgery was terrible. Left a terrible scar on my face due to poor close up. The mohr site bleed constantly and when they took the stitches out it continued to bleed and the doctor never called to see how it was doing, even though he seemed concerned at the time. The only positive I have about my years of coming here is Michael Keene, PA. Great bedside manners and knowledgeable. Wish he was at the place where I have moved my business. read more

I've also seen Dr. Puente when a keloid needed laser treatments, and found him to be smart and focused. Only point I'd make that's not so positive is if your appointment time is near the end of the day, they're probably running behind and you'll need to wait longer. read more

My wife and I were referred to this dermatology office. The doctor never examined either of us nor did he even step into the room and greet us. Staffers discussed the ALA Blue Light treatment with us and they seemed to know what they were doing. We were told to make an appointment with Erica. When my wife called, she was told that everyone gets a 20 minute RED light treatment to start. What? That was never mentioned during our consultation. When my wife explained that she has red hair and VERY sun sensitive skin, she was told, nope - everybody gets 20 minutes. I told her to call back and cancel because it sounded like a cattle farm. We flew back to California to get the treatment. I could NOT recommend this medical group. I'm not smart enough to figure out why doctors set up this type of fraudulent practice, but they do.... sadly. read more

Lisa Harewood at Raleigh Dermatology is where I recommend ALL people of color to have their skin checked by someone of color . I can show before pictures if necessary, but trust me . I didn't think clearing my skin was possible . lisa taught me the importance of sunblock on people of color and the importance of moisturizing. We need sun protection and moisture too ! Everything went great until I was checking out at the very end of my visit. Love Michael Keene and the thoroughness of his exam. He breaks it down to understand and will give samples of things he recommends, if he has them. I wished the office staff wore name tags so I could specifically call out the RUDE lady that checked me out! Didn't even greet me when the nurse took me up there. She kept doing what she was doing which makes the patient feel they are burdens!! Never should have I felt that way. Belittled my question when I asked about making a follow up appt for my yearly check up. Her response "we don't do that - who knows their schedule a year out?" I couldn't believe it. Actually, ma'am - whoever you are - my PCP and my eye doctor both know their schedule a year out. But you could have just left it at we send a postcard to remind you to make your appointment. Not make me feel like an idiot!!! And then when I presented my insurance card (because it wasn't reviewed or taken at the beginning of my visit) she said why didn't you give it to the receptionist when you came in? Ugh!!! Because I didn't speak to a SOUL - I wrote my name on a clipboard and that was it before I was called. Why don't you ask these questions to your front desk STAFF - not the patient!! But she sure charged me like she knew what she was going yet my insurance had changed!! She mentioned I even had a credit that no one ever bothered to tell me and has sat there for an entire year!!! What's going on with this lady?? She needs to go. Not a great addition to your staff!!! Poor taste left in my mouth leaving. How's your retention?? Whew! There's too many other dermatologists out here to choose that will make you feel a little bit better about yourself than dealing with this mess!!! read more

Not a fan of this practice. Was seen four times for a occluded, pussy, infected cyst. Not once during those four visits was the puss sampled to identify what was going on. I was given two courses of antibiotics. Doxycycline landed me an urgent care because I was throwing up water (yes, I took it as instructed). The second antibiotic did not heal the cyst but also didn't have me throwing up. I was also given pain meds which I chose to fill but I'm too scared to take because they are opiates, so I took a lot of Tylenol. On my last appointment, I was shaved around the area for them to drain it but the doctor decided not to. After four visits at Raleigh dermatology, I had to go back to my primary care to have the cyst drained and sampled because I wasn't getting care at Raleigh dermatology and needed to know how to effectively treat the cyst. I also heard my doctor tell his assistant to write down certain symptoms that I didn't have "for insurance." It just seemed...wrong. The doctor himself had a fine bedside manner and his assistant seemed distant, but fine. I found it not easy to get an appointment here and I was never seen on time. I have been going to RD for almost 20 years. The expertise of the clinicians is excellent, and Michael Keene in particular demonstrates a true sense of patient care. In terms of customer service, their non-clinical staff does not have a patient centric mindset, at all. When I tried to make an appointment for my college age daughter (also an existing patient), for her cystic acne which has gotten progressively worse, the best they could do was give her an appointment in mid January (6 weeks away). Even more disappointing, they won't refill her Rx of Epiduo Forte until they see her. read more

Very unhappy. I came here wanting to start accutane because I am 28 years old and have tried everything the last 15 years to control my acne and nothing has helped. I just recently moved to the area and got health insurance again so I was ready to start treatment. The dr assured me that trying other medications first was the way to go even tho I had told her I tried everything in the past and nothing worked. So after 2 more months and several hundred dollars later I make an appointment to again discuss accutane and waited in the office for over an hour before eventually walking out because they couldn't give me a time frame of when she could see me. Upon leaving the dr called me over and over, after finally answering she begged me to come back and told me that I was a good candidate for accutane. I first confronted her professionalism at calling me repeatedly even when I wasn't answering her calls, which she ignored, and then told her I was very much done with the office after how she didn't listen to me to begin with when I said nothing has worked on me and then after how I was treated that day. It reminded me of a psycho ex boyfriend desperate to get me back, I couldn't believe it. read more

I just had my second round of surgery done and nurses who weren't even in the room came to check on me. Dr. Puente is an excellent surgeon and I felt comfortable knowing I was being well taken care of and going to get the best results possible. I had an appointment scheduled one MONTH ahead of time. I arrived at 9:13 and my appointment was at 9:15. I had worked my work schedule around this appointment since it is essential to make appointments for Accutane one month after the last. I walked up to the front desk at 9:35 to see when I would be called back, as I had already been waiting 20 minutes. At 9:42 I was told a nurse was going to come collect me, however, this was 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. The nurse never came out, and I had to leave to go to work (and was late to work subsequently). I got no apology from the women at the front of the office, and they were rude at best. I am now unable to get my medication. I will never visit this dermatology office again. I will be leaving this same review elsewhere to save everyone else the trouble. read more

I have a long history of skin cancer, including melanoma and have seen my share of dermatologists over the years and in my option, Raleigh Dermatology is an outstanding practice. Ginger Atkinson, PA, is an excellent provider, she is caring, competent, and listens to my medical concerns. I am extremely happy and confident with the care that she provides. Her nurse/assistant was equally as caring and was able to give me good advice regarding a new medication that I was prescribed. In 2018 I saw Dr. Puente for a squamous cell excision and I was equally as impressed. His has very friendly and caring demeanor and his surgery skills are excellent! read more

I have been to this office several times. For a stubborn skin irritation. I saw Dr Atkinson, while I did have to wait up to 30 minutes before being called to the back I didn't have to wait much longer to see the Dr. She is not a warm person but she generally wanted to get to the bottom of my problem..I had to return a few times at least 5 trying different treatments to see if they helped, the treatments didn't work even a biopsy said I had eczema, but no cream or ointment worked. She didn't charge me a copay or billed my insurance but for 2 visits. Some have to be aware that Drs are not miracle workers and one tx that works for one may not work for all sometimes patience helps, even if your as uncomfortable as I am. read more

I have visited this practice 4 times in the last two months. I think that the Dr. as well as the rest of the medical staff that I have encountered are polite and knowledgeable as well as patient in their dealings with me. However, the office staff is quite another story. They have personal conversations that have to be finished before they can turn their attention to the patient. If you make a request of them such as a return phone call concerning benefit questions, or an estimate for future services they look around at one another as if they have never heard such a thing. I was sent to two different offices across the hall from the reception desk to retrieve paperwork they needed me to fill out to request an estimate during two of my visits. Both times the employees in the offices seemed bothered by my interrupting them when I had been sent to their offices by the front desk staff. These employees then rolled their eyes and went to the front desk to tell them that they were supposed to be giving out these forms. I actually had to call back after 5 days because I had still not received a call about the estimate I requested. For my second estimate I actually waited to see how long it would take for them to contact me and finally at day 15 I called to speak to the office manager. I voiced all of my concerns but I do not believe that any action has been taken. I am going to schedule future visits at another practice. We waited for over an hour to see the physician, only to have my child scream with pain as the inpatient, seemingly annoyed Dr, take out an area of skin in question without and local anesthesia or warning. I had one bad experience and one not-so-satisfactory experience here years ago. The bad: when I was a senior in high school, my mom took me here to have some discoloration on my skin checked. Both the nurse and the doctor who saw me at the same time ignored the question I was asking about the hyperpigmentation (that was, how to treat or get rid of it), and started attributing every skin condition I had, including the keratosis pilaris on my arms to being overweight. Having now gone through Esthetics training and learning more about these afflictions, I know that my weight had little or nothing to do with most of what I was suffering from, including the discoloration. I was too young and too humiliated to tell my mother, so she later brought me back for another procedure. That was to have a large mole removed from my neck. The unsatisfactory: Dr. Puente was very kind and quick to perform the removal. However, years later, I'm extremely unhappy with the results. I've used various scar creams trying to get rid of the mark that the procedure left, only to realize that I don't have a scar at all. The doctor simply did not remove all of the mole, so I have the round edge of the mole still remaining on my neck, and it's embarrassing, but for various reasons I have not returned and refuse to give this office any more of my time or money. read more
