I've been to birthday parties here when I was younger; they have picnic tables you can reserve. *Abington residents only - they have a security guard at entrance that checks IDs, but I feel like that's usually busier times, like weekends.

His mausoleum is in Laurel Hill Cemetery, so although originally from North Carolina, his true impact was on the cultural life of our city. Fairly small, it feels considerably larger due to its connection to Pennypack Park covering a large area in Northeast Philadelphia to the border with Montco. The creek by the same name flows through both parks, tying them together geologically. The watercourse meanders through Lorimer where it has cut a deep ravine over the millennia. There are multiple scenic overlooks worth exploring, even in winter when the absence of foliage allows you to see through the trees to the actual contours of the steep rocky hills across the creek. If power walking or family bike riding is your jam, Pennypack Trail runs along the northern boundary of the park and beyond for several miles, and it is flat, wide and dirt/gravel packed for smooth ambulation or cross country biking, allowing excellent views of the topography and creek vale. Plenty of parking in a big lot across the road from the main entrance.

The wedding ceremony complete with folding chairs very close together was in an open area just beyond the tented area. Luckily the ceremony was early enough before dusk to keep the bugs at bay. The reception in the tented area was spacious with a great layout. After dinner we were ushered to the dance floor inside the estate. It was an awkwardly small room which connected to another small room with one side exiting onto a patio through large windows which were hard to navigate in heels. Two bathrooms were in an out building off the tented area with unlit paths and uneven steps. Just some observations. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Catering service was good.

Part of it was very nice and well maintained, and another part was deserted and boarded up--literally. There were bridges that were blocked but didn't have any signs not to use them, and they were sound enough to us to use... so of course we hopped over the baracades, haha. There also happens to be an above-ground large black-colored gas pipeline running through the span of the park. So much for enjoying nature. Regardless, if I lived in the area I would definitely use this as a running trial!

It's not unusual to see artists, classes, and families at Morris. Despite this, it never feels crowded. We love Morris so much that we joined their membership program a few years back; it's a membership that we keep active. The community programming is a nice add, and we've even picnicked here once. We appreciate the nods to the community (e.g., the scaled down Chestnut Hill West SEPTA stop), and the areas of Morris that speak to all members of the family. We'll definitely be back.

When we arrived at the gate, we showed the email receipt and then were allowed to drive up to the welcome center and a small parking lot onsite. We arrived just in time for the tour that they give at 1pm every day. The tour is customized to the attendees. Our tour guide was Janet. She was great and we learned so much. I would recommend the tour if it's your first time visiting. Unfortunately, the Out on a Limb tree adventure exhibit was closed to the public on the day we visited. But we'll probably be back again later this year because we really enjoyed our time there.

Mallards, hawks, and swans O my!…read more I visited the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve this weekend which is connected to the Green Ribbon Trail (0.06 miles away) and it is a wonderful spot to observe birds and ducks by a freestanding island. There is even a pier where you can set up a scope or use binoculars and get magnificent visuals on these majestic creatures. Interesting tidbit which I observed this weekend, predator birds like hawks are actually chased away by non-predator birds, like the red winged black bird, as non-predator birds do like predator birds hunting on their land! I witnessed this myself and was instructed by our birding tour guide this happens with birds unlike land animals. The tour guide further explained not all predator birds eat other birds hence this behavior exists in nature. There is free street parking right next to the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve and the lovely town of Ambler can be explored after you are done with your biridng. As always people SYOY!!!

My first foray into birding took place at the High School Park in Jenkintown this weekend…read more We were a group of approx a dozen led by our birding expert who teaches adult classes on intro into birding. The instructor got us ready for the tour by starting by her car that was located in the pay to park lot and she broke out toe warmers, hand warmers, and a couple of other warm weather items she offered before venturing into the park. This is highly advisable as my feet were freezing and I ended up putting hand warmers into my shoes as it was uncomfortably cold in normal sneakers. On to the birding adventure! We saw a species of hawk, one of the first birds I really got a good view at and I was surprised at the experience as the hawk had its back towards me for minutes on end, it was clearly scouring for prey and did not want to turn around for a better view for me lol. We used our Merlin app (birding app) to help identify some of the birds, but please do not use a birding call to draw birds closer to you as this is extremely frowned upon in the birding community as the birds have enough distractions and can tire themselves out looking for a call that was used from your phone. My girlfriend and I have a number of future trips planned at different parks. Follow me for more park reviews for birding in the immediate area. And as always people SYOY!!!

They also have yoga in the park at nearby Rockledge Park through Twisted Monkey Yoga Studio. It has more climbing structures and running space for toddlers than nearby Ciegelkowski, but it doesn't have the baseball field or basketball/tennis courts that the other park has. Never usually that many kids there (if you want your child to have some playmates - there's Wall Park in Cheltenham or Champion Park or Fox Chase Rec in Fox Chase).
