The parking for the campgrounds did seem a little clustered for trucks with trailers or RV's. However, I'm not sure that they have much room for expansion. There are a dozen trails on the grounds, with plenty of bird viewing sights. There is even a Bald Eagle viewing area and it's my husbands favorite spot. There are several picnic areas and grills to make a whole day of it. Because this is a National Park, there is a very small fee to get into the park, but it's on the honesty policy. After you walk your heart out, head over to the visitors center for even more viewing areas and a fun historical tour of the giant ship that sank right there when the Missouri River was wider. The Bertrand museum is incredible, every item pull from the ship was perfectly presevered from the silt in the ground, that in itself is worth the drive. If you're looking for a family fun day with a little history lesson for just a few dollars, De Soto Bend is the place to go.

It was cold, so prepare accordingly as the indoor stalls and riding area is not heated. We did a brief tour of the stable, and then the group was broken in two three groups. They got to ride 3 different horses, guided by some young girls for about an hour and then on to the cake and presents. It was a unique opportunity for my kids to ride. I was unaware this was even a thing - and it's about 25 minutes from Omaha in Blair/Bennington off County Rd 41.

A turnoff onto a non-descript gravel road leads you to the picturesque grounds of the American Legacy Complex. Horseback riding lessons are offered here and they have quite the facility. Both indoor and outdoor areas are here and several horses to learn to ride on. My son has taken a few lessons here and has enjoyed it. Safety comes first as my son was required to wear a helmet. Also, they learn to brush the horses towards the end of the lesson. The staff here is friendly and helpful. They also have horse events from time to time where they have rides, contests, etc. I haven't been to one yet with my son but plan to in the near future.

Don't type Loess Hills State Forest in your maps. You will find an "Hills Have Eyes" or "Wrong Turn" type of atmosphere. This is after you drive by the tarp covered shed with a spray painted sign stating, "Enter Here!!!" Ohhhhhhh snap!! The State Forest is comprised of 4 sections so do some research prior to going! We found an awesome trail (close to the overlook area) which runs by two ponds and was a total of 1.8 miles. Had some steep inclines and some open fields, it worked decent for 7kids who enjoyed the adventure. The overlook observatory area has its own trails and has great views extending miles out! Hint: take a picture of the map sign- it's easy to navigate! Bathrooms were accommodated at the trailhead!

I came here for the first time for a company volunteer event actually and was able to help their conservation team clear brush as part of their habitat rehabilitation efforts. The conservation team was incredibly knowledgeable and made the impact of our work clear, leaving us feeling accomplished at the end of our event. I recommend going here for hiking and also volunteering - check out the volunteer calendar for personal and company opportunities!

Neale Woods is a great place for hiking, flower viewing, and fungi finding!…read more We've visited a few times and seen different neat natural things each time we go. It costs a few dollars ($5 the last we went), but that fee goes to upkeep on the park, so it's a good cause you're paying toward. The only issue we ever ran into was when we hiked a bit and came out of the woods onto a road, and weren't sure which way to go to get back to the main entrance. Luckily, we guessed correctly and went the forest way, but a few signs may help others not make our mistake. If you are looking for a fun activity for the whole family (or just yourself!), give Neale Woods a try!

With two water slides and a fun staff, it's a great places for kids to go to cool off during those months between Memorial Day and Labor Day. However, when its hot and you'd like a dip in the pool, there are likely a multitude of Blair residents thinking the same thing at that very moment. A noticeable tension Blair had had to balance is the crowd size. Some days the place is swarming with people, both in the main swimming pool area and the "kiddie pool" area. So come early and claim a spot, or be prepared to put some money down for a swim at the YMCA down the street. You won't get the golden tan from being out in the open, but you might have a little more personal space.
