The parking for the campgrounds did seem a little clustered for trucks with trailers or RV's. However, I'm not sure that they have much room for expansion. In conclusion, I will definitely be returning for future fishing trips, as well as, looking into camping for the weekend.

For those with dogs note there are 2 grated bridges to cross. The NRD does a wonderful job keeping up the area.

It was cold, so prepare accordingly as the indoor stalls and riding area is not heated. We did a brief tour of the stable, and then the group was broken in two three groups. They got to ride 3 different horses, guided by some young girls for about an hour and then on to the cake and presents. It was a unique opportunity for my kids to ride. I was unaware this was even a thing - and it's about 25 minutes from Omaha in Blair/Bennington off County Rd 41.

A turnoff onto a non-descript gravel road leads you to the picturesque grounds of the American Legacy Complex. Horseback riding lessons are offered here and they have quite the facility. Both indoor and outdoor areas are here and several horses to learn to ride on. My son has taken a few lessons here and has enjoyed it. Safety comes first as my son was required to wear a helmet. Also, they learn to brush the horses towards the end of the lesson. The staff here is friendly and helpful. They also have horse events from time to time where they have rides, contests, etc. I haven't been to one yet with my son but plan to in the near future.

I came here for the first time for a company volunteer event actually and was able to help their conservation team clear brush as part of their habitat rehabilitation efforts. The conservation team was incredibly knowledgeable and made the impact of our work clear, leaving us feeling accomplished at the end of our event. I recommend going here for hiking and also volunteering - check out the volunteer calendar for personal and company opportunities!

Neale Woods is a great place for hiking, flower viewing, and fungi finding!…read more We've visited a few times and seen different neat natural things each time we go. It costs a few dollars ($5 the last we went), but that fee goes to upkeep on the park, so it's a good cause you're paying toward. The only issue we ever ran into was when we hiked a bit and came out of the woods onto a road, and weren't sure which way to go to get back to the main entrance. Luckily, we guessed correctly and went the forest way, but a few signs may help others not make our mistake. If you are looking for a fun activity for the whole family (or just yourself!), give Neale Woods a try!

This is specifically a review about the Living History weekends…read more I highly suggest visiting during a living history weekend. There are many people in period costume. We sat in the fort's school room and got quizzed on things from the time period, look around a carpenter's shop, helped press apples for cider, visited the general store, spoke to an archeologist working to uncover the orginal blacksmith shop, witnessed a canon firing, and so much more.

But, the fishing was a disappointment...we tried 4 locations, variable baits, depths, etc and not a single bite. Are there zero fish? Just 30 minutes North of the metro, De Soto Bend is an incredible wildlife refuge. With many trails…read morerunning parrallel to the Missouri River, it is an enchanting sight. There are a dozen trails on the grounds, with plenty of bird viewing sights. There is even a Bald Eagle viewing area and it's my husbands favorite spot. There are several picnic areas and grills to make a whole day of it. Because this is a National Park, there is a very small fee to get into the park, but it's on the honesty policy. After you walk your heart out, head over to the visitors center for even more viewing areas and a fun historical tour of the giant ship that sank right there when the Missouri River was wider. The Bertrand museum is incredible, every item pull from the ship was perfectly presevered from the silt in the ground, that in itself is worth the drive. If you're looking for a family fun day with a little history lesson for just a few dollars, De Soto Bend is the place to go.

Do yourself a favor and do NOT visit the Blair YMCA. The executive director George Tinteta, is the…read moreepitome of horrible customer service. George is beyond unprofessional. He personally saw to it that my three year old not learn basic water safety from a family member. George threatened said family member and proceeded to revoke her membership for spending time with my son and helping him learn basic water safety. His priority is making the YMCA money through swim lessons (which I would NOT recommend as a past YMCA lifeguard).. the "training" is subpar. It is clear that George and the Blair YMCA do not support young children having basic water safety skills unless they are taught by their staff. Futhermore, the lifeguards spend great amounts of time huddled together talking rather than keeping eyes on patrons. Will be making it a point to get the word out about how badly my family was treated at the Blair YMCA thanks to George Tintera.
