Of course, I've seen the sign along the highway and my boyfriend had mentioned it before but none of that made much of an impression as the actual place did. Our first visit here was to break in our new bicycles. We entered on the west side of the lake where there is a pier for boats. There is another pier on the other side of the lake close to the camp ground but where we entered it was near a nice covered picnic area. We rode our bikes along the path twice here and enjoyed every bit of it. Since then I've gone a few times with my bike to ride and I loved every second of it. The staff here does a great job maintaining the path, piers, frisbee golf area and the ensuring the trash cans are all taken care of. I haven't camped on their campground yet but it always looks to be pretty tidy. I know my nephew has stayed there for a cub scout camp weekend and I didn't hear any complaints from their experience. One of the things I like about this area is there is a designated day camp area, they also have a lot of events going on here. I've noticed a couple of triathlons here. I appreciate having this gorgeous lake, park, camp area, close by and well kept. It is such a hidden gem just on the other side of the highway. I look forward to spring and summer next year to break out our bicycles again and maybe even spend a weekend camping here. If you have yet to check this lake out I highly recommend that you do! The path is almost seven miles with a good amount of benches along the way so you can also just sit back, relax, and enjoy being amongst nature!

Okay, I admit I thought Iowa was one big corn field. Well in a sense it is but there are many rolling hills with green tree belts in between. The park is located around a beautiful little lake that offers camping, fishing, swimming and boating opportunity. Certain sections offered multiple lake view sites, some were reservable to sites. We were lucky and reserved a view of the lake and no camper on other side. The park seemed well maintained, beautiful old grove trees through out. Like some County and State parks they offered power but no sewer or water. Some sites had water close enough to refill we did not. So we had to be careful with our usage and showered at the one facility. This will be my only complaint, the women's shower was dirty and needed a good cleaning. They had a water refill stations and dump station as well as outhouses. The one close us was clean. I took my mountain bike out on the trail that runs around part of the lake over dams, bridges over marshy areas, thick forest and beaches. It wasn't actually a single track trail mostly on grass that is kept mowed down wide as golf cart width. It was rated intermediate not because it was technical, I believe it was because it had some steep hills that had me breathing hard. I would highly recommend this gem of a park while traveling through or if you want a nice camping weekend in Iowa.

It's very well maintained and has a few 'indoor' restroom options. There's a very long main loop around the lake that is about 3mi and VERY hilly. I know there's hiking path and such as well. A few small paths exist. It's a lot of fun on bikes and quite kid friendly. Two large playground areas and a couple fishing docks. Also plenty of parking. The dog park is newer and very nice. Can be very busy, tho. It's so clean. I'm proud of SIoux City and surrounding citizens for keeping this place so nice. Totally free; no entrance fee. Can kayak on the lake, but it's too small for boats. Maybe a paddle boat. I'm sure the shelters can be reserved but I don't have information on that. A couple water fountains are available. Don't forget sun screen!!

My family and I came here for 4th of July weekend. 5th of July to be exact. It wasn't busy at all. There were a good amount of people, but it didn't feel crowded. we brought our paddle boards, jet ski and mat float to tan on the lake. It was a great time. We saw a bunch of RV's too. There's a playground on site as well as bathrooms, but expect public camping bathrooms.

It's quite a large body of water (the 9th largest in Nebraska!), so there's a lot of space to boat and fish when it is the season. The last time we were there, we saw a duck migration and got some cool photos from that, so there's definitely some cool naturey things to see. Aside from that, there's not too much to do here, but it's a nice place to relax and get some light exercise (or do some boating, swimming, or camping when it's nicer out!)
