This is a considerably large space with various seating areas and a quiet corner designated (should you want that). Food wise, it's a decent offering at breakfast. When I asked the waitress what vegetables were in it, her answer was "peas... and some other stuff, I can't remember." Sounds great! My partner ordered a veggie wrap off the light bites menu. After another way too long period of time, we finally got our food. The risotto seemed like normal rice with sauce poured over - it was strange in texture and flavour. The veggies were peas, leeks and what I'm pretty sure was lettuce, though it could have been kale. My partner's wrap was super spicy and he didn't really enjoy that either. Since I'd ordered off the set menu, I had to wait for the dessert to roll up (white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake - base is not gluten free!) We requested the bill and dessert at the same time, bill arrived first. The cheesecake was unimpressive; I couldn't pick out any white chocolate, and the berries were more scattered on the plate than in/on the cake itself. There's no denying this cocktail had an apple zing to it - quite sweet but not too over the top and pretty easy drinking. I'd ordered the twice cooked fries (£2.95) and they arrived pretty quickly and were piping hot. They weren't amazing fries, a little greasy but overall they were pretty decent and we demolished them without any trouble. I then opted to get into a second cocktail - it was a Saturday afternoon, after all. The Black Magic Woman (£6.50) is an espresso martini with "Illy Espresso, Smirnoff Red, Patron XO & brown sugar shaken over ice, strained into a martini glass and dusted with chocolate." Woah. This was GOOD. I mean, really good. A bit addictive, even. Thankfully I wouldn't be able to tolerate two espresso martinis so that wasn't really an option. Once in the doors of the Laurieston, it was like I had an epiphany. It was just like my Nanna's house (although my Nanna's was a bit classier, no offence). It was warm, comforting, welcoming and had some seriously retro decor. As others have mentioned, there's a tasty selection of beers from Fyne Ales but on this visit I opted for cider. We took a seat in the lounge area as the bar was pretty heaving for 1pm on a Saturday (those damn subcrawlers!) and enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality of by far the friendliest bar staff I've encountered in a long time. Over they came to take our photo, find out our story and give us tips and advice on completing the subcrawl. They even have maps for you! That is SO cool and was very handy later on when I'm sure some people didn't know where they were (um, like me). There's a JUKEBOX as well - a proper old school one where some of the cards are handwritten. It tells you that you have to pay, but just push the buttons and you'll discover that you don't. Yes from the outside you would not give it a second glance. It all looks a bit run down and perhaps even a bit dodgy. To be honest the inside ain't much of an improvement on the outside. It is an old bar that looks like it has not been done up in years. Why four a stars then? Well, what it does not have in terms of polished finishes and decor is made up for by the friendly atmosphere and great array of beers on offer. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They supplied Subcrawl maps and made a point of coming out to chat with us. The even took our photo as they take records of all the "subcrawlers" who pass through their bar. I must admit, I stuck to a boring bottle of becks on the drinks front as I was being very careful what alcohol I took on at this early stage. I would like to go back though and try a few of the far more interesting beers they had on offer. 4 stars for a traditional and slightly shabby, but friendly boozers.

The club is intimately sized and follows a retro early-mid 20th century aesthetic. This is backed up by the fantastic service by the staff who address you as sir and madam. The entertainment began with RadioJam; a guy and girl duo playing acoustic r'n'b, which would normally be my idea of hell but it actually fit the mood nicely and my missus was ready to take them home with us to play in our living room on demand. After a short break, they were followed by the Fortunate Sons and their brand of Americana/bluegrass, which then had us up for a bit of dancing! As mentioned, the place is small so there's no place to hide if you want to throw some shapes. There was also a spot of aerial acrobatics by Silks. It was a short performance but threw up something different and was visually compelling. Swing is apparently famed for its cocktails and i agree. The two bartenders obviously knew their stuff and took pride in the drinks. At the start of the night when it's still quiet, they make more of a show of it and my 'Old Fashioned' was quite impressive compared to some previously had poor efforts elsewhere. Suffice to say, I reflected my appreciation with a good tip. There is a cocktail menu (which i think they vary each week) but they will make whatever you like. Also, while it's quiet at the start of the evening you will get table service but understandably this peeters off as the club fills up. Cocktails are pricey so take plenty of dosh if you're going to be ordering a few. However, beers etc., are more reasonable. Another thing I liked was when a large hen party showed up, clad in sashes and all the usual getup, a polite word was had from the club owner to remove their gear as this, I guess, is not what he wants his club to be known for. And to be honest it was the most dour faced hen party I have ever seen! We booked ahead to secure a table at an exrta cost (£7.50 pp) but folks can pay on the door for £5. That's me bring pedantic the pub is great on a Sunday afternoon when the football is on and as the majority of the people support Celtic it's very atmospheric during a game but everyone is welcome and that makes for a great place to be on a Sunday or a Saturday night The staff are excellent and very attentive and know everyone by name and I noticed that the entire pub is due a major refurbishment , notwithstanding the beer is great as are the clientele once the pub gets done up it may well get five stars

We also shared a giant endless pot of tea. This place is really a special place, the day's menu is full of charm, and the service is excellent. When I was there, the dining area was quiet with plenty of available seating, definitely not a cramped place! I hope to return sometime, it was a great experience, food and all. I'm not a huge fan of golf (since I suck!) but my boyfriend & his brother have been teaching me the basics on this course, plus I really like how they have shaped the course around the park as it fits in perfectly with all the walk ways and other scenery. The course starts just behind the bowling green's towards the back of the park and inside the bowling green area is the building where the admission for the course is "paid" (although from what I've seen very few people actually pay to play here). The course has 9 holes, most of which are a par 3, with three par 4's. I'd say the course is well suited to beginners and moderate players, you're certainly not going to see a Tiger Woods level player teeing off here! I would say that the course is also kept in pretty good condition as The fairways & greens are very good but the tee off areas could be doing with some maintenance. I think this is a pretty good course in general with some good challenges for those just starting out like myself. A few negatives to point out would be that, because the course is in a public park, there is very little security so it can be a common occurrence finding yourself trying to avoid beer bottles or cans with your feet as you're taking certain shots. Also, don't be surprised if some holes are missing the flag as some goofballs seem to think it's cool to take these which can cause some confusion aiming shots blindly at the green! The final thing I would say that is super frustrating is that because the course is very spread out, you can often find people randomly jumping onto the course & beginning their round from random holes.....very annoying when they decide to jump on at the hole in front of the one you are currently on holding up your round!! All in all I think the course is pretty good in spite of those negatives. It's very ideally located, well maintained and a good course for people of average skill level, which I'd imagine most of the people who play here are at!
