We are staying in Zeist at one of the local hotels and me and my three young children (10 year old…read moretwin boys, and a 13 year old daughter) are trying out the local restaurants. Tonight was Tapa Tapa. As you can see from our five stars, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about this restaurant. First off, there were two options for the menu. An "all you can eat" option and an "a la carte" option. We chose the "a la carte" option, but at the end we would have been slightly better off with the all you can eat choice, so think carefully how hungry you are before you decide. Next time we will opt for the all you can eat. This option is the same as many sushi restaurants, with a piece of paper where you can tick off the choices you wish to make for each round of your orders. A much appreciated plus was that water was served in carafe, and so we did not have to pay for bottles of water which just last night at another place came to 12 Euros just for the water! We made up for it by ordering a beer and a sangria. I likely won't order the sangria again, not because it was bad, but it was just a bit too sweet to go with our meal. I'm going to stick to the beer, which was a very nice compliment to all the different dishes. As one would expect with a tapas restaurant we had a good sampling of many different things. Everything was delicious, but special mention has to be made for the deviled eggs (huevos rellenos) which were infused with a barbaque sauce that made an old recipie new. It was a very plesant surprise. We also ordered the empanada espinacas (twice) which were really wonderful. Small bite sized spinich empanadas with a hint of goat chees were light and delicious. I also want to mention the datiles con bacon, which were exactly as I expected them to be. The dates were delicious and not overwheliming and the bacon was cooked perfectly to make an ideal mixture of taists in the mouth. My only comment (not criticism) would have to be addressed to the chorizo de bellota, which was very good, but didn't surprise me the way everything else did. Final mention to the deserts, all of which were outstanding, but of special note were the torta de benofee which was unique and delicious as well as the fondue de chocolate, which provided fresh fruit to dip in melted chocolate. Delicious! Finally a huge thank you to the waitstaff who were personable, kind to the children and long-suffering when one of the boys spilled a bottle of water all over the place. Overall, a wonderful evening at a wonderful restarurant.

Love, love, LOVE this place! It's one of our two go-to restaurants here in the Netherlands and…read morenever truly disappoints. The ambiance is really cozy and nice and eclectic, definitely not overdone like some Mexican places and they have a great selection of tapas, even for me as a vegetarian! Plus, the cat that lives behind the restaurant drops by every once in a while to keep you company when the restaurant is still quiet early in the evening; adorable! I love it when restaurants here in Utrecht have "house cats". Love the seasonal selections, for me in the summer it's Empanada de Espinacas (Filo stuffed with spinach, pine nuts, soft cheese and raisins) and in winter it's the Tumbet (Spanish egg, potato and vegetable casserole) both are super delish! However, the two dishes I can't live without are the Patatas Bravas with the lovely spicy dip and the Pan (bread with red butter, aïoli and olive tapenade) the red butter is especially amazing. The BF always loves the Champiñones Rellenos (stuffed mushrooms), Costillas (Lamb chops with aïoli) and Pollo El Mundo (marinated chicken legs) and orders at least one of these three every single time and of course also the Pan, everyone loves that! The desserts are all great, try the Banoffi or the Tarta de chocolate y nueces, big recommendation on those two! Now, with my love for the ambiance and food you're probably wondering, why not five stars? Well, that's the staffs fault. The olive tapenade can be a bit inconsistent in taste, the Pincho de Pollo is the tiniest portion of Chicken skewers in the world and the servers tend to have a bit of an "we're better than you and would rather talk to each other" attitude about them, they don't really act on it and stay polite, but a few smiles coming towards the customers instead of each other would be greatly appreciated! Overall a great restaurant and I wish they would deliver to my house!
