I was recently evacuated due to the fires in Eaton Canyon, visited the school seeking assistance and was checked in by two Hispanic individuals. Unfortunately, their interactions with me were not in line with the welcoming and compassionate spirit of a Catholic institution. I felt the behavior of these individuals was rude and belittling, which added unnecessary stress during an already challenging time. I understand that everyone is under pressure during emergencies, but kindness and empathy are so vital in moments like these. I share this feedback in the hope that it will help improve future interactions for those in need. If these individuals are parish representatives, I trust that steps will be taken to address their conduct and reinforce the importance of compassion. I have been visiting many schools the past ten years, from volunteering to just pure visiting, and if you're thinking between Garvey Intermediate, Temple, Ynez, and all the other schools, please put Garvey as your consideration! Because trust me, your kid won't miss a thing. Best of all, there are many electives kids can choose from. From arts to choir, from band to yearbook and journalism. Why go private at New Ave school when you can save a bunch of money trying out a public middle school? From a lot of my friends that went to private schools they claim that private didn't teach them anything, but was just more enforced on the dress codes and rules. Then it appeared two massive iron-rod gate doors which lead to the grounds of this majestic campus. It's what I would assume the mansion of great expectations once was. There are strawberry and oaks trees for acres and a linear koi lily pond. So here the history lesson: it was once a mansion which consumed hundred of acres of land. As time marched on, as it does hundreds of plots of this plantation-Spanish styled looking mansion were sold-off. Creating the adjacent neighborhood of Sierra Madre. Including, a large plot to this now existing school, Alverno. The mansion is host to the girls drama classes and plays: Bravo! I can't speak to the school or the educational quality but as a shooting location it's Ethereal. Such a delight and an endless time capsule of history. The city of Sierra Madre was wonderful and welcoming. And this feature film we are shooting which I can't say much abt, truly will be the stuff of legends.

They claim it's declining…read moreenrollment but none of the other high schools are closing down. they took the money in donations and tuition from families who are expecting their girls to be invested in the school. They never let the parents know they were in financial trouble. that was wrong and I don't think the whole story because the new principal now says at public meetings she is going after much younger students because that is where the money is. It's sad when a school has to focus on the their heads giant salaries and not the students once the Covid funding stops. On the plus side it's a very cheap school Unfortunately they have a lot of interest in holding weddings (almost every weekend) and filming (even during school hours) on the campus. I wouldn't want my kids around strangers when they should be getting educated. My nieces enjoyed a good high school 30 years ago. My grandnieces and nephews have not at the new Alverno. Their parents pulled all three kids out. They felt the education was lacking compared to other schools. And are now enrolled in and very happy. The staff seems ill equipped. Some teachers are nice others seem very disgruntled. they really don't seem happy to teach there. It comes across to the children. some teachers are just there because the kids are getting discounted tuition and that doesn't make them qualified either. There is a mentality between those who have which are a lot against those students who have less. So much for Christian teaching The new Alverno is not the school that it use to be. The school require the kids to enroll in a sport so they can claim they have a big sports program. More fees. I find it misleading especially upsetting for kids who have no interest in their team sport but would rather compete in something more individual or that the school doesn't have (like gymnastics). Or in participate in the arts. Every time one turns around there's a fee for something (Jagothon,field trips, fundraiser in school hot dog lunches) so the school isn't as inexpensive as initially thought. They constantly want money for some sport courts. They have lot's of land but lack the accoutrements a proper school like a gym with showers, an updated cafeteria, a proper theater, etc. Their hand is out throughout the year. This makes the tuition more expensive in the long run. They really should have skipped allowing the new lower school to come in and worked on improving the high school. It ruined the campus

Attended a Thanksgiving week Basketball tournament for the second straight year…read more I was rooting for Bishop Amat High School, which ended up winning the entire tournament, hooray! The gym is a nice gym with minimal seating, as the home and visiting teams' fans all sit on the same side. This makes for very tight seating. Lighting is good, the AC works great, the student workers and volunteers are AMAZING, super welcoming and friendly. Parking is about 200 years away, which is no big deal whatsoever. The girls' basketball team was hosting a fundraiser by selling food and snacks in the small kitchen-like area at the front of the gym. The prices were very affordable, and the young ladies working at this snack shop were charming and friendly. This was a fun experience.

My sister is a faculty member (who just had twins) and was last min. in applying for permit. Got a release from San Gabriel School Dist. (in time) and because they didn't believe that she got it done (due to SGSD error) in time they LIED about there being openings available. I guess as punishment to her they denied her request. Meanwhile my nephew was in limbo missing valuable school days. To cut to the chase (too long already) my sister is still waiting for response from new principal. Who suffered here?? A 7 year old little boy. For what? My nephew now attends Park Elem. who actually care about kids education!

There is this manhole on the fence that allows people to go into the school, so that's pretty cool. The lights near the benches never close, so we could just you know order some pizza or some shit and eat over there when its too dark or your friends are too fat to walk. They have cool automatic lights on the grass that turn on when you don't need em and when you actually do need em they turn off, so that's pretty cool. Uhh its a pretty big place so if you wanna play hide 'n go seek then you could get lost in this joint. But that's why its fun, cause when you can't find someone you just quit and sit at the benches so they could hide for dayz. There's also market carts that you can take inside the school and push your friends with. This place is so chill that one day we all assembled here to play basketball and ended up playing charades and no basketball at all, so the ball boy had to walk back home and never came back again. Overall, you could do anything you want here during the weekends so thats pretty cool. Just don't come around the bench area cause thats like our home turf so, if you don't wanna get blasted, you know what to do.
