There are two donkeys that live there. They are named April and Buddy. You can see them walking the park with their care takers from time to time. You can meet the donkeys for a walk on Sundays from 10-11 a.m. There use to be three donkeys. The third was named Perry and he passed this year, 2025. Perry was the donkey that Disney's- Shrek's donkey was based off of. They are gentle and sweet and friendly to visitors. You can donate to the donkeys at https://barronparkdonkeys.org. My dog and I love walking the pathways and hanging out around the grass fields and trees. It's a great place for kids because of the cute playground, picnic tables and water fountains.

So the donkey pen is toward the left of the greenery. Walk about 8 minutes and one can see these little cuties! No dogs, feeding, petting or trespassing by the pen. I did not see any restrooms or water fountains. Location is in a residential area. If the little side parking lot is full, lots of shady residential parking spots to borrow.

There are tennis courts to enjoy, BBQ sites available for renting, an off leash dog area, large open lawn, and a roomy walking path. Cuesta Park is unfortunately too mellow for my high energy toddler but I'd give this park 4 solid stars for the perfect place to enjoy a nice stroll, do some kite flying, or revel in a good catch up sesh with some friends.

The grounds were clean and well maintained, and we appreciated the variety of amenities, including the large pool, playgrounds, and tennis courts. It's a wonderful community space, especially for families. The only challenge we encountered was with the reservation system. Although we had a confirmed reservation for a picnic area, the table we reserved was already occupied by another group who declined to leave because they said they had arrived first. We attempted to contact park staff for assistance, but unfortunately the situation wasn't resolved, and we weren't able to use the area we had reserved. I think this could be greatly improved by placing clearly visible "Reserved" signs or labels on picnic tables with the reservation date and time. That would make it much easier for everyone to identify reserved areas and help prevent misunderstandings, especially during busy holidays and weekends. Despite this issue, we enjoyed our visit and appreciate all the work that goes into maintaining such a beautiful park. I hope this suggestion is helpful and helps make the reservation process smoother for future visitors.

I lived near here at one point, and there's a lot to like about Sylvan Park…read more First, the grounds are well maintained. Aside from sand constantly getting everywhere around the playstructures, it was generally very clean. Note this doesn't extend to the bathroom, which was average for a park. Second, the play structures are great for small children. I think around 6 or 7 you'll probably find the park a bit boring, but for kids in the 3-5 range it's very nice. They have tennis courts, too, although they weren't in the best condition. There's a good amount of space here, too. It's definitely not a small park. There's plenty of room for sports or just hanging around, and lots of dogs come. There's also a nice trail that winds around the perimeter. I do wish there was a fence around the play structures to keep kids out of the street. Even some small barrier would be nice. Also, parking can be tough. The lot is tiny, and that leaves it up to street parking. This can be annoying. If you live nearby then it's a good choice, but it's not worth going out of your way, especially when Cuesta Park isn't too far away.

Park features: One single large grassy knoll play area Water fountain Picnics tables Park benches Toddler activity boards Large climbing, sliding, activity play structure Sand pit with a near by faucet so kids can make sand pies Three etched in stone information/educational cement slab giving information about the Ohlone Indian, and Mexican land acquisition, etc. This is a great park for toddler & early elementary age children but I'm sure older children will love the play structure. No skateboard or roller blades allowed. There are no rest rooms at this park. The Huffington pup loved the park. She did a lot of nosing around.
