boat house & bistro, parking, entrance

I lived in Mountain View for a little bit and always wanted to go boating here, but somehow never went. I recently visited for a stroll around the North Shore recreational area, and found it really fun and peaceful. The parking was free, easy, and there weren't too many people, though I suspect it could get popular during weekends or the summer due to the various activities to be had here. It's next to a local landmark, Rengstorff House, and a golf course and Shoreline Amphitheatre. Shoreline Parklands is mainly host to a large park and trail where you can walk, bike, and observe nature, and a large lake where you can sail on various boats. They also offer paddle boating, which could be a fun organizational offsite! There is virtually no shade if that matters to you, but the grounds are more or less flat. At the time, a company was renting out the boat house space for a party. The boat house also does equipment rentals (you can book online) and have tons of lockers. We saw huge groups of coots and geese, and a lot of squirrels with their own personalities. In fact, some squirrels looked like hybrid squirrels... It was definitely interesting observing the thriving nature in this area. We even witnessed some squirrels in heat.

Beautiful Park, but quite crowded on a holiday Sunday. There's the big lake with biking/hiking trails, and there's also boat, canoe, kayak etc rental, and a cafe type restaurant as well as a more formal restaurant called Michael's next to the golf course, plus the history Renstorff House which hosts many weddings and other private events. We enjoyed a picnic next to the lake, it was windy, but not cold. Then we walked around a bit, and enjoyed the views. There's a small boat playground for the little ones as well. Parking is challenging on weekends esp a holiday weekend, but otherwise it's a really nice place for a relaxing afternoon with family and friends.

There's plenty to do here including availability for birthday parties, boat rentals, paddle boarding and more. Picnic tables with umbrellas are abundant for the bistro nearby. There's an area for hosing down dirt on the feet or whatnot. Chipmunks can be seen around the area too. Perfect place for the weekend!

Went running along the gravel and concrete trails at Shoreline Park on a Saturday evening, spent some time exploring the surrounding nature and birds, and enjoyed just taking in the views around Shoreline Lake, a lovely place for boating (they offer rentals here). Also made a short trek to the Sails sculpture nearby, and captured some great photos before sundown. The parklands include other venues and amenities as well, such as a designated kite flying area (labeled as such), the Rengstorff House, which was set up for a private event (possibly a wedding) this past weekend, a golf course, and the Shoreline Amphitheatre, which hosts concerts for popular artists and amazing events like the SF Symphony spectacular with fireworks on 4th of July I've attended in the past... though I'm not a big fan of the venue itself (that's a whole separate review). Parking was free, and there are multiple lots available. If you're specifically looking to visit Shoreline Lake and the surrounding trails, follow the signs leading to the boathouse lot.

Popular park in Mountain View. Rengstorff House is on the premises, which is often rented for small weddings. Michael's at Shoreline is another wonderful venue for receptions; not too pricey given its proximity to the golf course. The golf course is within walking distance and right next door to the park. The park offers paddle boating, canoeing, among other water activities. There are geese roaming around. Lots of families spend their weekends here walking, hiking, biking among other recreational activities.

It is always beautiful- trail is wide, flat and packed gravel.

In between the rainy days... we came to this trail for some fresh air. The baylands are a great place to stretch your legs, run, walk, walk your dog (leash required), or ride a bike ( flat wide packed gravel trail). This place, with its many trails, is a special treat for birdwatching! Bring binoculars to see more. Several species call the baylands home. Hint: there are bathrooms at the trail head and a water fountain.

Love this park. It is right past the shoreline amphitheater, so make sure you don't plan a visit when there is a concert. It's just a few minutes drive from the amphitheater, and there are a few different parking lots in the area. Lots of trails good for biking or walking (some trails are only for walking). They are clean and easy- pretty flat terrain, and there are lots of beaches. There is a little lake where you can rent boats or kayaks, a cute cafe, and a playground for the kiddos. There is a grass field where you can picnic of play games. Lots of birds and wildlife spotted on every visit.

Perfect place for a photoshoot or if you know how to ride a boat then even better! Credits to @soflashots instagram

Nice place for a photoshoot--- or if that's not what you want to do then it's also a good place for a picnic, a nice stroll around the lake, bird watching, or of course partaking in water sports. Weekends are hectic but week evenings are pretty calm! Plenty of parking spaces available during the week and the weather is looking pretty nice right now. If you plan on being there well past 7:00 pm take a sweater because it gets pretty chilly later in the evening. Hope you enjoyed my review :)

I've been coming here since I was a kid and even came on several field trips here. Now I bring my kiddo here to enjoy a bike ride or walk around the trail that begins from the kite flying area all the way till as far as we'd like to walk on that day. The Bay Trail is long so you've got quite a distance you can cover if you choose to do so. The area starting from the kite flying area is paved and smooth to walk/bike/run/skate on as you get close to the pond area you start to see a rocky and sandy trail. One of my biggest issues with this trail is that there are no specific areas for just walking. People who are walking, running, on skates, and biking are all on the same trail. Which means you have to be aware of your surroundings and make sure the kiddos are walking on the right side of the trail at all times. There are bikers/runners/skaters that ZOOM by you and don't give a s*** if you move or not. I'm always on edge walking on this trail for that reason. It's not all bikers but I've had my share of jerks that are rude. It's not a good place to practice biking. I appreciate the people who ring their bells or let me know they are on my "LEFT". Since the SIP I've seen a lot more wildlife roaming around which is pretty cool. The bathrooms are closed so make sure to go ahead of time. It can get really busy on the weekends, holidays, and sunny days. Overall, It's a really nice walk or bike ride (if you are aware of your surroundings at all times).

I absolutely love coming here. There is so much to do and see while you are here. I was able to enjoy a walk around the bay and able to see the lake. There is a ton of bicyclists here usually so it's good to keep that in kind when you are walking. I've gone here before the quarantine and the by boat rentals are super fun. Of course due to covid19 that area is closed off. Always a good time coming here though!

Shoreline Park has been here for years. Home of the Park, SF Baylands here and hiking and biking and walking trails and gold and Michaels and The Boathouse it is a joy. Located in the S central part of the SF Peninsula in Mt View, not too far away from Shoreline Amphitheater and all the Google campuses including the main one. As you drive into the park on the right-hand side in the very near plain view is the Dumbarton Bridge. Go visit the Rengstorf Mansion and walk the grounds and get the history. A quick bite at Michael's is nice or just taking a blanket and parking yourself on the grass by the shore. Take a jaunt on one of the paddle boats or canoes and have a drift of a lifetime. Be careful, the winds can be tricky and leave you out in the bay. Shoreline always a wonderful venture. A quick 20 min jaunt from Burlingame, Ca headed South down 101 or about a 50-minute drive headed North from South San Jose up 101.

This review is for the Shoreline Parklands At Mountain View and NOT the Dog Park, which is located on North Road just OUTSIDE the main gate entrance to Shoreline. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is "No Domesticated Animals Policy" in use on all the Shoreline Parklands grounds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shoreline Parklands At Mountain View are comprised of irrigated meadowlands, wildlife refuge and habitat areas, hiking trails, as well as several recreation venues that are located within its grounds, but take up only small portions of the 750-acre land. These venues include Shoreline Lake and lake facilities (such as Lakeside cafe, Boathouse, etc.), Rengstorff House, Shoreline Golf Links with Michael's restaurant, and several smaller areas such as Kite flying field, etc. Shoreline Park offers wide variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, kite flying, bird watching, biking, sailing, windsurfing, boating, and golfing. There are miles of trails available for jogging, hiking, biking, walking and birdwatching, such as Permanente Creek trail, Stevens Creek trail, Vista Slope, and Crittenden Hill. There is abundance of wildlife along unpaved paths, paved roads, and hiking trials. On the western edge of the park, the trails connect to the Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve. Parklands ecosystems vary greatly. Birding and wildlife observation are important features not to be missed on your walks or hikes here. These grounds are also home to the rarest Burrowing Owls, protected under the Fish and Game Code. They are considered "Species of Special Concern", protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The park is situated along the wetlands by the San Francisco Bay and provides for a beautiful setting and gorgeous views of the mountains to the west and east across the bay. It is centrally located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Parklands feature irrigated meadowlands and wildlife and habitat areas with self-guided interpretive signage. There are environmental tours available along the eight miles of paved trails. Extensive wetlands include two tidal marshes, two sloughs, a seasonal marsh and storm retention basin, two creeks and five irrigation reservoirs on the golf course. Shoreline Park first opened to the public in 1983. It is open everyday, from sunrise to sunset. The City of Mountain View operates a Shoreline Division, which is responsible for operation, protection and enhancement of environmental areas within Shoreline. Shoreline Park amenities include a small man made boat sailing lake (about 50 acres) operated by Silicon Shores, with a boathouse and a lakeside cafe, a golf course with Michael's restaurant, clubhouse and banquet facilities, and the historic Rengstorff House and gardens, all of which are perfect for leisure time and recreational activities. Shoreline has unique history in that it stands on 20 million cubic yards of refuse. The lowlands were raised 20 feet to a usable height with landfill, accepting garbage from San Francisco from 1965 until 1983 (park opening), while also creating a barrier to prevent flooding in Mountain View and surrounding areas. What used to be over 600 acres of old landfills, wrecking yards and hog farms were transformed into one of the San Francisco Bay most popular regional recreation areas. Shoreline's landfill methane, generated by decomposing refuse, is captured through the management system to generate power. I should also note that next to the golf course there is a Shoreline Amphitheatre, an outdoor concert venue, also built on a landfill in 1985-86 as part of the Shoreline Park project. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To protect the wildlife habitat (mainly birds), THERE ARE NO DOGS ALLOWED on the Shoreline Park grounds anywhere, including at the lake (even if the dog is inside the vehicle when entering to pick up your kid from the summer camp). This is called the "no domesticated animals" policy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This place is usually my go to when the weather is just perfect and you want good views of the mountains viewing the Monterey Bay and the Santa Clara Valley. In addition, the park is even open during the cold winter season, where it occasionally will snow (because of how high the elevation is, the main base is situated at about 3,200 feet above sea level). This place has been my go-to park for hiking for a while, because of its terrain. At the same time, it's also been because of how much snow they get when cold fronts come into effect. They are also open year-round, so definitely swing by this state park when you do get the chance to! It's a decision you'll never regret.
