Very small inside but it has lots of options like any other liquor store around, prices aren't bad either

There are still two cold door sections (I don't know the technical term) for local and craft beer/ale. I bought some that intrigued me but I was not wowed like a couple of other places. This is very convenient for me; watch the traffic going in and out of the parking lot if you are travelling north up Lanes Mill Road in Brick, NJ. There were some decent beers there but not everything was super fresh...but I am picky and like them as fresh as possible. I hadn't been there in a month because the last time I was there nothing especially hit me. Don't get me wrong, one does find some interesting beers; but nary a Belgian, nor anything from another country that I would like. Yes, there is Heineken, Corona, and probably many other beers of that ilk, but they are not for me. I am waiting for it to get better...hopeful

I don't know if this is place is under new ownership or if it's undergoing a change in philosophy…read more But I've noticed a marked improvement. The beer selection, while not as extensive as some bigger stores, is well selected and contains some craft beers that I have not seen before, or perhaps just overlooked. Paul is a a fountain of knowledge when it comes to the science of all things brewed... well actually all brewed alcoholic beverages. I call him the beer sommelier. He obviously loves his job, and takes delight in explaining and recommending beers. Instead of blindly picking up a brand I have never tasted, I am getting some informed recommendations. He is never too busy to speak with you at length. Contrast this to most liquor stores, where the staff know less than you do... OK maybe that's setting the bar a little high because I do know a little... I meant to say that the staff knows as little or less than the average person. Some staff at other stores don't even drink beer. So how can one expect to get sound advice? We assume that just because someone works at a liquor store, they are qualified to provide reliable guidance. More often than not, they have no clue and pull some "advice" out of the air, or perhaps based on what sells. It seems they believe that they are being helpful, but it's like asking for directions; I'd prefer someone tell me that they have no idea, than to give me bad directions. (I realize I'm dating myself. For you kids, there was once a time before GPS and Google Maps...) Overall this place carries a well chosen beer selection, and the customer service is excellent. If you want to get more adventurous with the brews you drink, I'd recommend this store as a good place to start.

Been many years since I went here, and in a recent mad search for Belgian beer (which seems to be…read moreunobtainium nowadays, for whatever reason!), I ended up at Joe Canals. Lots has changed since my last visit(s). The entire back-end of the store used to stretch into what is now a mattress store, and was filled with a large assortment of craft beer and "make your own six pack" sections. While there's still a decent selection of beer here, their main focus seems to be liquor and wines, which dominate the majority of the shelves. Prices are decent, and are on par with every other liquor store in the area. For liquors, they seem to carry some more obscure or harder to find brands, which is a plus. Workers here have always been friendly and helpful as well. The downside, is that unfortunately echoing what others have said about the beer section - WATCH THE DATES. While the styles I tend to purchase age gracefully (stouts, porters, belgians) - a vast majority of the date codes I saw were 1 to 2 years past their best buy, and covered in dust. Many craft styles from local breweries that require constant refrigeration (IPAs, stuff with fresh fruit flavors, etc) were also fairly dusty on the shelves & unrefrigerated. All in all, probably a good place to get liquor and wine, and perhaps "macro" beers, but a heck of a lot of the beer was either expired or improperly stored. Not sure how frequently I'll be back, and definitely more of a liquor place than a beer one.

Amazing selection of craft beers, sure they've got all the usual ones ie Dogfish, Voodoo, etc. but they have 3 refrigerated cases containing some very unique beers from many of New Jersey's smaller craft breweries that I just don't see anywhere else I go. See my pictures attached if you don't believe me. These are all refrigerated as the craft breweries demand so they are always cold too! Any questions ask for Eric. This guy knows them all. He knows the breweries, the hops they use, all the varieties. This is the place to go if you're into beer! Five easy stars! Best craft beer store I've seen in NJ!!

I go there for the beer because they used to have a good selection of Belgian ales, and beers from other countries. Lots of empty shelves where I was hoping to find Irish or English product. I found lots of local beers but many had dates of when they were canned, way back into 2019. Many four and six packs had dust on them. (I am hoping it is due to the virus.)
