They have just hired their sixth Head of School in nine years. That should tell you all you know about where the problem lies. There are serious governance issues and lies that are perpetuated throughout the school. Parents are afraid to ask questions and students are getting shortchanged on the education that they deserve.

Principal Bernal is a great principal who keeps the school running and makes sure the kids have a great environment! They keep the school very clean and have lots of spirit days to make sure kids have fun! The staff and teachers are friendly and give kids good education to prepare them for middle school. This is a review for the Drama Department at PVHS…read more Several weeks ago I mentioned to a friend that I wished 'Avenue Q' went on tour so I could see the much talked about production. A few days later I was driving over the hill to RPV to surf when I observed a sign indicating that the Palos Verdes High School Drama Department was doing a production of 'Avenue Q' I knew I was going. I asked a friend if they were free to attend, they were and the details were left up to me. If you are unfamiliar with Palos Verdes it is the land of Millionaires & Billionaires with more than a handful of connections to Hollywood. I figured seeing any production put on by this Drama Department might be something special with the talent, props & set design. I went onto the Drama Department link attached to Palos Verdes High School web site and found it very easy to navigate. I selected and paid for 2 tickets and was even given the option to 'upgrade' for $5 more to premium seating which I did. In case you were wondering premium seating is the first 3 row, first come, first serve seating, no assigned seats. After my transaction I was able to print the receipt page and use as our ticket. I even received a confirmation email, great trusted customer service. The day arrived and the show started at 7:00pm. When we arrived an organized line was working, ticket takers had answers to questions and ushers ensured you found your seats without any problem. I thought my friend and I might be stopped but we were able to walk in and sit down at our seats with the Starbucks we just purchased. As for the theater, the show, the props, the talent & the production itself, it was simply stunning. I was expecting to see a watered down version of 'Avenue Q' but we watched a 100% uncensored version. The puppets used for the production were spot on to the one's used on Broadway in New York. This drama section was honestly like seeing the actual production on Broadway, I was blown away. I originally walked in planning to see the original in New York on my next visit but now feel completely satisfied and feel as if I watched the show that is winning Tony awards. My mother once told me to never pass up on a High School production of anything and that is some good advice. Now that I have seen behind the curtain there is no question I will be on the lookout for more productions put on by this Drama Department. Amazing evening for $20 & free parking, you simply cannot beat that while supporting a great cause!!!

I was part of the cross country team and unfortunately saw firsthand how strong favoritism…read moreinfluenced team decisions and recognition. Many athletes worked hard but were overlooked unless they were one of the coach's clear favorites. Even basic encouragement, like a simple "good job" was not given to everyone. Instead, praise was reserved for a select few, leaving others feeling unvalued despite their efforts. When I respectfully addressed this even as an alum, I was met with a hostile response and completely shut out. I had hoped for reflection and respect, but instead received defensiveness and dismissal. This is not the example of leadership or character that a youth program should be built upon. A coach who discourages hard-working athletes, fails to recognize everyone equally, and responds to concerns with hostility should not be in a position of guiding young people. Leadership should inspire, not divide. At one meet, after a mile time trial where I struggled badly and was visibly upset, I heard him say, "I am so proud of you guys." I asked, "Are you sure about that?" because it felt insincere given the lack of encouragement many of us experienced. In a race in Hawaii, while I was in tears and trying to reach my parents, I was told, "I don't care, cheer on your teammates please." That moment made it clear how little empathy and support was being offered to athletes who were not among his favorites. Please see attached for records

My little cousin went this school but it wasn't really a great experience. He's was often picked on…read moreand discriminated against because of his skin, and height. The principal's Mrs. Wells and Ms. Aguirre did their best to diffuse a lot of the situations, and work with my cousin, but between the some of the students, the lady Ms. Reb that worked the front office , the yard guards ( Ms Schm. and Ms De La C) and his first grade teacher Ms. M, he had a hard time adjusting. His second grade (H) and third grade teacher (Mr. C) were so much better, but he still had problems and then pandemic happened. Once the pandemic was declared to be over, my aunt tried to enroll him, but the lady at the office informed her it would be hard to enroll on campus because of the problems he had with the students. They penalized him even though he was being bullied by the first grade teacher and the students. So my aunt kept him in homeschool outside of LAUSD, and he's been thriving ever since.
