First I do want to say that the staff here is friendly and they work very hard at keeping the place clean. (If it weren't for them I'd do fewer stars.) ...Especially considering all of the kids running amuck completely unrestrained on the weekend, throwing their trash and Gummi Bears everywhere- that says a lot. During the WEEKdays it's a lovely place.... However, if you're thinking about a weekend - This is not a place for ADULTS who want to enjoy the beauty of nature. Think of it more like an INNER CITY park campground where 80% of the parents (20% RESPONSIBLE parents: THANK YOU!) sit in their lawn chairs sucking down some brews while turning the kids loose to scream, chase ducks and other little fuzzy creatures, and ride their little bikes all over everyone's campsites. WHAT - EV - ER!! As long as THEY get their "me" time. Go on the campground website and you will actually find a Mom bragging about the coup she pulled off by suckering Dad into running the kids willy nilly all over the Park to "tucker them out" while she happily drew on (defaced) the sidewalk with the chalk she bought for the kiddies. I actually remember that one: One of the more hellishly loud weekends... One of those where the only thing louder than the kids was wail of the Urban Mom calling to her young from the (un)natural lakeside habitat, to let them know their chicken nuggets were ready. Oh, and don't count on being able to hide inside watching TV on the weekend; unless you already have a good enough satellite system to get through the tree coverage. Forget cable or antenna TV. They have Wifi - but ONLY for those who were lucky enough to score a PAVED "Cottonwood" spot on the "right side" of the tracks. It doesn't matter if you're in range... If you're on the dirt - you don't rate. I don't blame the Rangers- they're just doing a job. Administrative powers that RULE use the excuse that paved sites cost more and they are paying extra for the wifi - but that's a load. It's as if the perfectly leveled cement, well manicured, landscaped lawns, private (coded) CLEAN and nice restrooms, and little decorative lanterns, cost NOTHING to maintain in Tara..., I mean Cottonwood. ( Such a lovely Southern name don't ya think). Hey - I'll pay the extra five bucks for wifi, and I'll even KEEP the lumpy dirt grass... Anyway just something to consider if you actually want a little vacation time and some PEACE. Won't find it here on summer weekends! read more

If you ride an RV, have kids and love fishing , you will find this park convenient, fun and usually not so busy over the weekends. Spend the 4th of July here and enjoyed every single minute of our stay. read more

One of the nicest parks in riverside. If you want to relax and not drive very far it's a great park to go to for a day trip.

This is our fifth year coming to camp. Last year we stayed in the cabins for the first time. We had no water and were not able to wash our hands , cook or use the restroom. We had to walk to the front building or campsite for restroom. It was not pleasant. They gave us a coupon for another night. We decided to use it this year but probably shouldn't have. Cabin had missing blinds, ceiling lights duck-taped to ceiling and missing plates on bathroon door. I do recommend the campsite. Kids have fun at waterpad. Not pricey like cabins. We will still return. Just not to cabins. read more

Nice little family campground especially for those of us new to fishing and camping. My kids learned to fish here and were not disappointed! Friendly check-in staff. I have camped at the Cottonwood (RV only), Lakeside (tent and RV) and primitive locations within the park. Cottonwood is pretty quiet with super clean nice restrooms and showers (need a special code to access). Lakewood is a decent location too though the restroom/ pay showers can get pretty crowded especially around 9pm. Primitive is well, VERY primitive with tons of weeds all over the ground--not too comfortable to set up a site and no faucet access here (usually reserved for large groups). The splash pad really helps make the heat more bearable during the summer as it can get pretty humid and muggy inland. When the Riverside Airport hosts its annual airshow, you can see some really cool planes flying overhead from the campground. The flip side is during the rest of the year there will be low-flying planes overhead (not too low though). Downside is that at least during the summer, the campsites can get pretty crowded and the low prices tend to attract some rachets. Not unusual to hear loud f-bombs being thrown around. The six person limit per campsite and quiet times seem to be more of a suggestion at times. Little tip is to buy your tokens at the Gopher Hole as the showers do NOT take quarters. Overall it is a great little "staycation" site for a very good price especially if you can do during the middle of the week when it's less crowded. read more

Clean location, our two children had a blast here. They played at the waterpark, playgrounds, and went fishing. Plenty of space for them to play baseball and for us to walk around. Didn't catch any fish, captured some crawfish though. Bathrooms were clean, grass was green and maintained. Staff was very friendly and informative. We will be back here, local for us, and a nice getaway at a decent price. read more

This is our favorite place to camp. There are a lot of trees, the bathrooms and showers are clean, and there are a lot of activities for families. Mini golf and the splash pad are fun. The staff stays on top of rule violators but the staff is very small and could use more members. Plenty of playgrounds and fun at the lake too if you're interested in fishing. There is a nature center just a short hike away which is awesome. Our kids love it. Overall it's always a good experience and the quiet hours are enforced for a good night's sleep. read more

Loved the RV camping area! We stayed on site 211 and 212. Wide open areas and plenty of grass for the kids to play. I loved the paved roads as we were all able to ride around the RV areas. We enjoyed the water park on Friday when there was hardly anyone there, but once the weekend hit, it was jam packed so we just stayed on our camp site. Arrived about 8:30 Friday night, easy check in and directions to our RV site. Stayed 2 nights, had a great time. Lots of kids around! No problems. We never did see any patrols but there was never a need. Everyone around us was quiet after curfew and asleep by 11. We will go again. So clean, we stayed in the RV only area, Cottonwood. read more

Beautiful sites but the skunks and mosquitos make it difficult to enjoy in the evenings. I am full of mosquito bites as soon as the sun starts to set. And the skunks are not shy. I can deal with the skunks cause the just seem curios but the mosquitos are a problem. read more

This is a nice park. Clean restrooms but they close too early. The brochure says "PARK open until sunset." But ranger says we have to be out by 4:30. He said the section we were in wasnt the park. He said it was something else but theres picnic tables all around and a playground and its by the lake. When he closed the gate behind us, the sign on gate said "PARK closed". Why would they put that sign on that gate if it wasnt the park? I asked him if this isnt the park then where is it. He pointed to the area where there is no tables, no grass and no trees. Just dirt and weeds between the store and what looks like the real park. The sign out front at the street says "PARK open until sunset" too. We should get what we paid for. Not answers to our questions that are questionable as well. read more

We have been camping here in cottonwood for 6 years with our fifthwheel. We come at least once a month just to get away. The problem is that there has been a rash of thefts everytime we show up! We have been untouched until this past weekend. We chain everything up except for our $250.00 ice maker!The crooks grabbed it! Our neighbor, got his bicycles , his ice chests and some other campers had stuff stolen as well. The staff need to hire security personal just for the night time. We are still going to go back , but everything will be triple locked! Campers beware!! LOCK EVERYTHING UP!! Or it will be stolen! read more

Wonderful place to camp! We Rv camped on the new side site #233 & #232. Kids had a great time riding bikes,miniature golfing. The only downfall was the waterpark area was closed for repairs. The rates are great and very close to home. We will definitely be back this summer! read more

We camped in Lakeview campground and it is awful. There's piles of dirt from gophers everywhere, the site we had was very uneven. Very noisy on weekends when the locals come to camp. Very loud music, kids and adults walking thru our site. We came back from an outing and someone had parked in our site. The Cottonwood campground is very nice and quiet. We couldn't get a site there with full hookups. If you aren't from the area, stay away. We are used to respectful kids and adults which you won't find here camping. read more

Upon first drive up, I wasn't impressed. My first thought was, this is a dang park!! I looked around and saw a small fishing lake we couldn't swim in, trees too small for shade, and a wet pad substitute for a pool. Most places I camp have either an ocean, or a lake you can swim in. If they don't have either, they at least have shade. After I settled in, and the shock of possibly a boring week wore off, I lightened up. I realized hey, they have lots of beautiful grass for my dogs to frolick. They have water, electricity, and even cable tv outlets. We put up our awning, so we didn't need trees. They even have another older campground, on the other side, full of trees and shade for tent and rv campers. This place is gorgeous... It has a (non racist way) plantation feeling to it. There's a white picket fence that goes around the whole park, and plenty of places to ride your bike or walk. You really get some great exercise here. They also have trails behind the campsite. My wife and I rode bikes around the place, and cooled off in the wet pad. Boy that was pretty damn fun, embarrassed to say. By the way, we were not the only adults getting wet, their were plenty. What a way to cool off, it felt sooooo soooothing. I can see why people pay for a day pass, just to take their kids in there. You really get soaked!!!!! At night, the place turns even more spectacular. The park lights come on, the place is so peaceful (we came during the week, heard it gets packed weekends). This place is so serene with the sounds of crickets, and each site has a LIT utility box to identify the spots. Each spot also has a fire pit, and table. The spots are HUGE... Seems like they can fit a 60 foot trailer or RV. This place is super clean, bathrooms are spotless with brand new tile on the floor. They have a small fishing lake, and a camp store where you can buy anything, including fishing bait. The staff are very, very friendly. They even have a volunteer/camp host who did a $100 electrical service job on our rv for FREE (I made him take ten bucks), just because he wanted to help out. He saved the day... I would definitely come back here, I am so glad we came. All the campers I have encountered are extremely friendly. This is usually the case when the park staff are so nice, it rubs off on the campers. The only warning I have is for people with pets, beware of SKUNKS!!! Skunks are everywhere!!! When we walk our dogs, we encounter one every 15 minutes. Make sure you keep them near you, or they will get SKUNKED. It's not enough to dissuade you from coming, and at least they aren't SNAKES....LOL!!! read more

This was our 1st family camping trip and now I'm not sure I'd go anywhere else! Our site was HUGE and was all grass, with plenty of shade! There is so much room to walk and run and our 2 year olds LOVED it! The splashpad is great, even on Saturday when it is a bit more crowded...plenty of room for everyone. The staff was helpful, the firewood was inexpensive and the whold place was SO much fun!!! read more

Been fishing here for over 30 years. Yes it's an urban fishing spot and it gets packed but I enjoy the family atmosphere. Always meet locals to talk to. Take my son here to catch fish. Have a spot that always produces limits. Staff is great and camping here is a good time to. You don't even know your in town. Will fish here for the next 30 years. read more

We have been here twice and really enjoy the cabins. They are updated and clean. The kids love both playgrounds and the splash pad. The staff has been friendly on both occasions. My concerns are the trash in the lake (gross!) and the speed of drivers through the camp. There is 1 sign noting to watch for children and drive 10 MPH but I wish they had about 10 more signs. People drive through like they are late for work and it irritates me to no end. It should be common knowledge that pedestrians have the right of way especially in a campground full of kids. It would be great if they would install more speed limit signs and also for the staff/rangers to create a presence so that careless campers would slow down! read more

I came camping with family and an rv group if you have kids not for u if u wanna fish not for u if u wanna stay in ur trailer or motor home its for u the night time there's skunks everywhere Day time there's over flooded over grown grass everywhere the catfish hav spots like they hav cancer you can't catch them on a pole but they will swim to shore and die in front of u They will turn on water for playground at there convenience hence there's no hours if they don't want to they will make an excuses they turned on waterpark yesterday for walk in ppl but when me and my group went to ask they refused even after we walked all the way down there bc the white lady in booth had phone busy so we couldn't call to ask This park is a joke its disgustingly dirty and no wonder ur better off walking to the Santa ana river bed to play the campsites aren't ever cleaned my kids kept stepping on hangers I hav approx 20 under my rv from everyone leaving them and no one cleaning the spots up There's bees everywhere Tons of bugs During day convicts walking around talking about drug deals great thing when ur kids at 3 ask what there talkin about..which also explains the dope baggys everywhere Don't camp here read more

The campsite is great but the service in the front To check in was horrible the old angry volunteer ranger was rude and angry she ask for registration for the vehicles and trailer I have been here before and never been asked for this information. Looking down on us like we stole the truck and trailer . Maybe she was having a bad day but there is no need to take it on the campers and be rude if you don't like your job find another or retire since she looked like she was was about 80 I'm sorry you have to work it's not the customer fault. CustomerService gets the 1 star campsite get a 4 star. read more

I did not have high hopes when we pulled up, they didn't give us a map so we circled the place 3x before finding our spot which was packed in so close to other sites, in the midst of 3-4 big groups who were pretty loud and boisterous, AND people kept trekking through our site. BUT, we got over it, and the kids loved this place. They loved exploring nature and saw some pretty cool insects including a 4 inch praying mantis that kept jumping on them. The lake was well stocked, the splashpad seemed fun, and miniature golf was entertaining. Lots of mosquitoes though so bring insect repellent. It was ridiculously hot, so we were grateful for the shade. Bathrooms were okay. Bring your bikes, but the roads are too rocky for scooters. Campsite: TOO CROWDED, water at each site, fire pit, 2 picnic tables and lots of shade Activities: fun birdwatching, insect watching, splashpad, miniature golf, lake - fishing Bathrooms: there was often a line, they stock them with soap and toilet paper but run out A LOT, and toilet paper is so thin that it ends up all over the floors - gross Other: constant noise overhead with small planes flying, you better like being around people, heat is unbearable unless you have shade, and mosquitoes read more

This was a great place to camp with some exceptions. We arrived Friday and though it was HOT we went to the water pad and it was clean and our kids had a blast. We enjoyed the evening watching all the families take rides throughout the night. It was very quiet. Saturday is where we were ousted as far as the water pad. The park opened up for the public at the water pad. There were things I can't Unsee and the Filth was atrostious. We couldn't let our kids ENJOY any of what they offered. It was gross. I do not think the campers who paid for a weekend should have been subjective to this awful thing. The general store was great and not over priced. We went miniature golfing it was ok at 5 per person accept for the kids in the Green ponds like a spa with their parents all the while texting. Clearly something you would never expect and to figure out how to explain this to our 7 year old. Fishing ok although so green with awful slime and the showers were ok thankfully paying campers had a code to get in. The management seriously needs to reconsider their park regulations and keep the Scummy humans {I think} out of this park on Saturday's and let those who paid actually be able to enjoy their amenities they PAID FOR read more

We loved this park! It was local ( we live in San Bernardino)..but it felt like we got away! The staff was very respectful, helpful and informative. The facilities were clean and well cared for, the bathroomes were cleaned and well stocked daily. We were there for a 3 night 4 day stay on the weekend, we were in site 51 and were very pleased with it, we also liked sites 24 and 25...lot's of shade in these three sites. We were tent camping with our 4 children ages 16months - 12yrs.. The fire pits and picnic tables made the site very nice. The lakes were well cared for, but we spent alot of time on nature trails and in the water play area. We visited the Lois Rubidoux nature center and the kids loved the hands on fun and the trails in the surrounding area, the ranger there was very welcoming too! We saw lot's of little creatures. The newer RV campground (Cottonwood) is well lit, the Lake View campground which is RV/Tent mix (this is where we stayed) is lit with glowing park lights, the bathroom/showers are well lit through out the night, the Primitive camping is, well very primitive...there are port o potties, one water outlet, and several large fire pits, all scattered on an uneven camping area. I would definately recommend this park to friends and family! We will be visiting this campground on a regular basis! read more
