We went to Randy after our previous CPA of many years retired. He did our taxes for a few years and, not paying much attention (busy professionals as we are), we later found out that many of the deductions we should have been taking were not being applied to our taxes. This year we spoke with several other CPAs, all of whom confirmed this for us. We decided to pay a second CPA to prepare our taxes this year after asking Randy if he could apply the deductions for us. Although the cost of paying two CPAs was not insignificant, our savings still exceeded the added expense. Nevertheless, Randy was surprisingly angry and rude when we gently told him we would be using a different tax preparer. Later, his online payment system went down. He notified us that we would have to pay him with a paper check this year. And so we wrote and mailed the check to him. Very shortly thereafter, apparently not having received the check, Randy went straight to threatening us with small claims court over the "late payment". In our process of asking around about tax advice we heard from a number of people that they too had either directly or indirectly found Randy to be angry, vindictive, and to have been inflexible with their tax preparation. Ordinarily, we would not wish to spread negative vibes on the internet, but having received numerous threatening communications from someone we have paid to do work we ended up not using, we felt we should caution others in our community. read more

I am saddened to have to change my review so dramatically. At first we really liked Randall but when we ran into some issues with our tax return, he responded defensively and did not provide us with assistance. The fact that we asked him for advise on the best way to file (we were recently married and not sure if to file married jointly or separately), and he pointed us in the wrong direction has resulted in us paying much more than we needed to. I attempted to reach out to him a few times for advise on what to do, and it the end he was unwilling/able to help and told us politely to bugger off and find another accountant. Overall great first impression, but pray you don't have any issues, cause then things will change dramatically. read more

I agree that he is a great communicator and yes got great impressions from his friendliness at first. But I ended up not doing tax return with him. He charges by rate of 175$ per hour he told me, so I confirmed with him over the phone that it will be less than 300$ (usually it only takes 1hr to finish my tax return). Which I told him is the rate I paid for my old accountant last year. But after I signed paper with him he told me it will be 300$. Then by the time I submit the last document to him it changed to more than 300$. Not to mention that I did not add or make any change on my side. No extra meeting or contact with him between this period too so I'm not sure what's the increase was for. Also he does not tell you how much the return will be unless you pay him. I've always had my return calculated for free before I decide to go ahead with the accountants so it was weird. It's like ordering food without knowing what will restaurant serve you.. I wonder know how many of these people who wrote good reviews actually compare returns by few accountants every year. How do they know they got best out of their tax return? I really think it makes perfect sense to some people to choose him. He is very friendly and easy to talk to. But I am greedy and like accountants who can go extra mile to get as much return as possible. Unfortunately not that he couldn't but he did not suggest any good tip on tax deductions either so I had to go to other accountant who came up with positive news for me. read more

I used Randy for the first time last year and was very pleased with his customer service skills and his tax knowledge. We wanted to find someone in Sonoma County and are only up there on the weekends. Randy not only met us on the weekend, but offered to come to us (about an hours drive). We had just got married and were confused about how that changed our tax preparation and how we should file. Randy explored both filing options and gave us the best option. He very nicely and patiently answered all of our questions along the way. His work is meticulous and he honors his commitments. He is very responsive and has great communication skills. I found Randall on Yelp and had a very important (end of year) tax question. I called hoping to make an appointment and to hire him for some quick research. After explaining my situation, Randall just talked it through with me and answered my questions without charging me. It has been a long time since someone has been kind and generous enough to not charge a customer willing to pay in need of information quickly. We rely on Yelp to assist us and that is how we found Randy. On our first meeting Randy was very organized and answered our initial questions with confidence. We had a solar system installed and needed to take advantage of the federal tax credits. Randy was already familiar with solar and knew exactly how to file. My taxes are very simple but recently H&R block started to charge me several hundred dollars for an itemized return. I used Randy for my return this year and last year and he is great.
