Because the rehab is inside a well-equipped, spacious FFC gym, there are many options as far as far as spinning, elliptical and other machines and I was able to restart my weight training as well. "Why?" she asked. "Because sometimes my heart races for apparently no reason." "What are you doing when it races?" "Nothing. Like, sitting on the couch watching my shows." "How often does that happen?" "Not that often. Maybe once every two or three months." She said I should see a cardiologist before taking magnesium. Okay. She referred me to Dr. Jain. At first I was weirded out because the answering service answers the phone most of the time. When I finally made an appointment the office person asked me to email my insurance card to an AOL account that seemed personal. It wasn't "drjain@aol.com" it was something that seemed unrelated to Dr. Jain or his practice. I called my regular doctor back and asked her about that. She said that many small practices use personal email accounts and not to be concerned. Okay. Then I went in to see Dr. Jain and she was right. It's a small practice. I told Dr. Jain about Pinterest and magnesium and (after some regular health history questions and an examination) he told me that I probably didn't need to take magnesium but that he could do some testing to make sure. I told him okay, but that I've only budgeted $800 for this. I paid about $800 upfront. The testing he did was thorough. He did a stress test, an echocardiogram, and something that involved wearing several electrodes taped to my body and connecting to a pager-like device. He determined that my heart is perfectly healthy and that I didn't need to take magnesium as he predicted before I had to pay for all of that. Initially, I was satisfied because I only paid about what we discussed and I budgeted. Then, I got a bill from them for even more money. It was all very confusing why I had to pay so much money considering I thought I paid for everything up front. Then I got a bill from Cardionet. They were also confused why Cardionet was sending me bills and told me that they would take care of it. Months later, it turns out that I really did need to pay Cardionet and that now it was past due. Great, right? In the end I paid him a total of $914.30 plus $78.96 for Cardionet. Anyway, I suppose that if you actually have a heart problem then going to see Dr. Jain would be amazing. He would do tons of testing to find out exactly what the issue is and how to treat you. If you don't have a heart problem, he'll tell you that you don't and then STILL do tons of testing. I learned not to ask health care professionals about stuff I read on Pinterest.
