A predominantly flat course, it offers a decent round without being too challenging. The greens are generally in excellent condition, and with it being relatively open, loss of balls should be kept to a minimum (although there is the creek which feeds into the harbour which has stolen a couple of mine over the years). They have a number of members' competitions, so ring ahead to make sure that you can tee off if you're just planning to go for a casual round ($24 for 9 holes). Club hire is available, as are coaching sessions, starting from $50 for half an hour. You should be able to get round in around an hour and a half, so its a decent course for those who are time-budgeting. Just be careful of pedestrians on the course - it's a public throughway - as sometimes they forget that they're crossing a golf course and can become cannon fodder!

Fitting golf around work is never easy and so swinging in somewhere quite so convenient on the the way in or out is a good option. The course itself is reasonable - quite short, but hills that provide some added challenge and a notable water feature on the 6th. Some of the greens are a bit furry and the bunkers could do with some high-tide sand wash, but this is a public course and you're only paying $19 for the privilege. To reach the Clubhouse, you have to navigate a back lane off Park Avenue, and the carpark is squeezy at the best of times. The Pro-shop sells all the necessities, and lots of kids learn their fairway basics on the practice area across the ninth hole (yep, be careful here). Above the Pro-shop club rooms and a function centre are blessed with terrific views across the northern suburbs - especially beautiful at night when the lights are on.

Cammeray is the Augusta National of Sydney…read more Most of its contemporaries are scrubby courses fighting off the encroach of native bushland where any ball hit off-fairway is as lost as lost can be, yet Cammeray boasts long, hilly, beautifully trimmed fairways, silken greens and friendly trees. Some of the holes aren't so much holes as they are sylvan glades; I half expect some of the trees to start talking Ent-style on several of them. The first hole is a doozy . . . right in front of the clubhouse with everyone watching you, you tee off from an eagle's eyrie high up in the sky with the fairway stretching out below you like a magic carpet. Don't duff the tee shot else all the members will laugh at you. With that said, if you nail it and it sails straight and true up into the stratosphere, you can hold your backswing in place while a chorus of appreciative sea-lion grumbles of approval roll over you from the peanut gallery. Man that's a good feeling.

We had beers and played pool downstairs before heading up to the alley and knocking down those pins, some better than others. What I need to do in order to improve my game is work on not turning my wrist when I release the ball, I had a bit of trouble there, and my friends didn't make it any better, but I reminded them, some of us may be in the gutter, but at least we're looking for the spares. Strike bowling is the perfect place to meet up with friends if you're all keen on throwing large heavy balls down thin wooded aisles to hit a bunch of white pins. If that sounds like you, then this is the place for that. But what it also offers, apart from group packages and functions, is downstairs beside the bar they have a laser tag arena. A simple game where you put on electronic vests and back packs and run around shooting each other through a dark and moody maze in some kind of, as the introduction video states, post apocalyptic world torn apart. Between shooting friends with lasers, bowling gutter balls and drinking beer, Strike Bowling Bar offers a great and different night out.

The best part about it is that it's not just bowling, the entry level is a bar with pool tables and arcade games and a dance floor. Upstairs is the bowling, and there is a bar at the end of the lanes, where you can also order food. There's also laser skirmish, which I am yet to try (it's booked in for a friend's birthday next month). As well as karaoke rooms (also yet to try and not likely to happen). After 4pm it costs $16/game, or $24 for two. On a Saturday night this goes up to $18/game or $28 for two. Its cheaper during the day before 4pm ($14/24) and for kids during school holidays ($8) There's also a bowl and blast combo, with 1 game of bowling and 1 game of skirmish for $20.

I personally hadn't been bowling in a looooong time. Maybe 5 or so years. So I thought, "why not!" As you enter, the foyer floor looks like a bowling lane. Nice touch guys. Up the stairs and suddenly you're in the 60's. A big red Cadillac, And old school decor. The place was nice and clean with an awesome music selection. The most amazing thing was the price. $25 for 2 hours of unlimited bowling after 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays! Between two people that worked out to 5 games (with a good 20 minutes spare) and two really sore arms the next day. Also, late night bowling every other night is only $20 for 2 hours! Incredible! We had a great time, so we went back the next night and did it all again. I can't lift my arm. I typed this with my nose. You're welcome.

Being a sunny school holiday morning at this recently opened mini golf spot we were lucky to get the last parking spot, and the kids were excited to give this place a go. Also being new was a breath of fresh air for those who have navigated older, rundown mini golf spots. We were armed with our clubs and balls, and helpfully suggested to start at the 10th hole as there was less congestion. This was a good idea as we realised we were slower than many of the other groups, and that was mainly dads' fault! A great course with a couple of cool designed holes, reasonable prices, clean and tidy facilities and snacks, although only partially shaded makes this pretty warm on a hot day. Good for a couple of hours entertainment.
