Being that it had sat in its case for over 20 years, and my lack of knowledge about the instrument, I brought it in for Paul to take a look at. Much to my surprise, he gave the ancient instrument a good bill of health and proceeded to play a bit on it, testing all the different reeds and making sure they all worked correctly. After he tested it, I pointed out the thin, cheap straps that were just tied onto the accordion. Thankfully, Paul had a great selection of straps and we were able to get one that will hopefully be more comfortable than the thin nylon strap... which hopefully leads to more time practicing, right? Paul was friendly, helpful, professional, and has a great shop full of beautiful accordions! Super happy I stopped in here rather than just ordering whatever straps I could get online. Paul also has lessons for the accordion at this location, so I'll probably be stopping in more in the future!

About 4 years ago I revisited learning guitar after being completely away from it for 30+ years and…read morenever having had success at learning it the first time I tried. I mean, now I had the internet and all of the online resources that weren't there when I first started trying to play. Unfortunately my results weren't much better than my original attempts, but I still hadn't given up. I decided to risk embarrassment and "gasp" find a teacher. My first attempt yielded some improvement but the fit (and time) just wasn't quite right. Then I found George at GrooveTree and at last I feel like I'm really making progress. It would be wonderful to say that now I can play like Clapton or Santana, but I'm hardly there yet, but what I can say is that I've may more progress in the last 8 months than I did in all the time up to 8 months ago. More importantly, I have avoided the disillusionment and hopelessness that I felt previously and have been more motivated to spend the time practicing and learning. I attribute this to Georges understanding of the issues that a student has, recognizing what my primary difficulties are/were, and being able to offer me several different tools to overcome the problems, while providing me with interesting yet challenging exercises and practice methods. Additionally, George has the theory and formal training and the teaching skill to be able to explain music in terms that I can understand. Once the theory portion started to fit together and I could grasp the basic concepts of the structure then the technique development and practice started to be much more purposeful and rewarding. I highly recommend George. He knows his stuff, can perform, but most importantly he knows how to communicate what he knows to me. If you're looking for someone just to teach you how to play a song, I'm sure he can do that, but I feel like I'm getting a better understanding and foundation while learning interesting pieces and working with someone who can evaluate where I am and how to challenge me without leaving me in the dust.

I mean, sure, it says Music Co next to Daynes on the sign. (Or perhaps below.. I don't quite recall) but there's also a big piano on it. So it's all about them ebonies and ivories. Grand pianos. Upright pianos. Player pianos. Shiny pianos. Used pianos. Pianos, pianos, pianos. There's also a large selection of sheet music in the rear, which is what brought me here not so long ago. It's tougher to find a copy of "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" than you would think. It is decidedly NOT in the classics section.
