MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT!!! There's a new Sheriff (manager, actually) in town. I've been patronizing Guitar Center in Taylorsville, Utah, for more than 20 years. Up until now, the store looked unkept and you could never get anyone to wait on you. NO LONGER TRUE! The store looked better than it EVER had and there were knowledgeable, enthusiast staff everywhere but they don't "bother" you. I got what I wanted quickly but the customer service was a bit confusing. I purchased a boss 505 looper machine and a microphone, and came in ready to ask questions about the mic, but the employee helping me at the counter started doing another task, then said "your order is on the counter". Went to GC today and purchased a Taylor GS Mini KOA Plus Shaded Edge. Beautiful guitar for sure. You could not ask for anything more on that small guitar. Very high quality. My sales associate, Maximus D R was very helpful. I have always been helped and assisted in that store with TOP care. Never a complaint from here. I've lived in NYC and California and out of every Guitar Center location i've been to, this is by far the worst. there were a few nice employees but the customer service every single time is not welcoming. The guy with the skull rings- had a very poor attitude when helping me out and then on the phone (not sure if it was the same guy but definitely a similar attitude. JD you should do some positive affirmations before your shift. you were very short and hung up on me before as I was asking one more question. If you don't like your job then quit. Absolute idiots work here, at least those that pack the used products. Mesa amplifier, listed as Excellent, packed in a box without ANY padding of any sort on the bottom or sides of the amp, and a thin layer of bubble wrap tossed on top of the footswitch and amp cover. Seriously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that UPS isn't exactly careful with packages, yet the buffoons at this GC thought it perfectly acceptable to package the amp this way. This is an update to an earlier post made about less than desirable customer service at this store. After dealing with an issue on a new guitar and the ensuing insurance claim, I am happy to report that management at this store went above and beyond to make sure my wife and I were taken care of. To be fair, our original issue happened during the holidays and it was understandable that the staff was under a lot of stress due to holiday sales, as well as a huge spike in business during that time. When we went in to get our replacement guitar, we first went into the acoustic guitar room to start looking at some alternatives. Without even speaking to the staff, the manager came in and started helping us make a decision. I had never met him in person and he did not know who I was until checkout. From the time that he engaged with us until we left the store, we received incredible customer service. He helped us narrow down the right guitar for my wife who has just started learning to play. He talked us through some options and actually talked us out of going with a higher priced brand. Once my wife made her choice and it was time for checkout, I let him know that we had an in store credit from the original insurance claim on the previous guitar. He really went out of his way to apologize and threw in some great perks (strings, guitar strap, capo, etc.) which was completely unexpected, and we did not feel entitled to receive. My first time ever buying a guitar, I was super nervous and I had no idea what I wanted to get. When I got help, I told the employee that it was my first time and I've never even held a guitar before. He was super nice and told, and showed me things that something a big inner should get. And he told me to feel it out and see what I like. I even got to hook it up to and AMP and play with any guitars I wanted( not like that was going to sound good or anything) . I purchased two guitars at Guitar Center and been very pleased with the customer service. The employees are not in your face pressuring you at all it is a very relaxed environment. Friendly and knowledgeable but will leave you to look for what you want unless you request more help. Prices for guitars and Basses were competitive with other stores for specific brands. Nice selection available at location. Option to order for pretty much any guitar you can imagine. Very pleased and will return in the future!!! read more

I prefer to buy my music equipment in the store rather than online so I drove a half hour to the Salt Lake store, found the perfect item and took it to the register. I don't carry cash or even cards and prefer Apple Pay. Not available here and even though Guitar Center online will take a cc number over the phone, they would not accept a card that I had saved electronically on my phone. Even with my ID. Sad, but I went back to my car and ordered it from Amazon. It was delivered the next morning. I'd prefer to support local business so please get Apple Pay, the rest of the world has. I visited this place on 9/27 but forgot to check in. I have to give a review because of one employee. His name is Ryan and he deserves a bonus or something! He was so patient and answered all my questions. He never showed any frustration when we would call him back over for more questions. Believe me, we called him over several times. Every time I come in this location, its a zoo . The customer service has always been a little hazy , and now its worse with how busy it is . Ive had legitimate inquiries about cymbals , and drums sets . Yet , never have been asked if i need help . Ive wandered the drum section time to time, and have never received assistance due to lack of staff , or attentiveness. On the GC Used site, I saw the Salt Lake store's listing of a lefty D'Angelico EX-SS (a decent guitar), but they provided no pictures. As a lefty, I seldom get to try out a guitar in person, but GC Used policy helps me check out guitars. Employees often make mistakes listing gear though, so I wanted to make sure the listing was an Excel series, as the listing suggests with the EX-SS model name, and not the low end Premier version of that guitar. I used the store's site email contact to request photos, and got no response. I followed up with another request, just that they verify it is an Excel series and not a Premier... absolute crickets. It would seem the Sat Lake City Guitar center employees are just as good at ignoring online customers as the yelp stories indicate they ignore locals. read more

I've now purchased, traded, or ordered 4 guitars from Guitar Center. The staff is always busy but helpful. I've only been playing a short time but using these guys has helped me move forward with my playing and feel confident with the gear I've purchased. I've used all the other guitar shops in town Guitar Czar, Acoustic music, House of guitars etc. However if I'm looking to buy a product I'll go to GC simply for the dept of their inventory. I've not used their shop but I have dealt with different repair services around town. I had a chat with the shop guy at GC and I might start using them for simple stuff in the future. Had a great and quick experience here. Came to buy a pair of Mackie 15s and was helped promptly. The guy who rang me up was busy but stoped what he was doing to ring me up. Helped me get them to my car and he put them in my hatchback. It seems weird that I would write a good review for something that should be the norm, but I don't get treated with respect very much nowadays. The pandemic has everyone in survival mode and people can be rude. I appreciate the fact that he was doing his job with a smile. Thanks guys. I've been taking advantage of this guitar center's services for a couple of years and while it's got it's problems, it's actually a great place for musicians. Let's face it, all music stores have their attitude. Their musicians for christ's sake. I think the people here at guitar center love music and love supporting musicians the best they can. It's a big store with lots of departments and they do a good job trying to give good service. I keep going back cause they know what they're talking about, and they care. Also cause they're more open about people trying out instruments, returns, and their gear insurance is actually really good. Guy (the luthier) is great. So is the other Guy... Ryan is really friendly too. I just love them and visit them almost every day sometimes. Don't give up if you have had a bad experience. They're doing their best and their good peeps. Came here to spend $2600 on a mixer and usually with spending that kind of money it sparks a nice conversation and leads the employee into wanting to help you more but in my case? No. The African American gentleman that helped me was just short, seemed like he hated his job considering you used to have a degree to work there, he was just rude, and not fun to be around or talk too and made me want to walk out and go somewhere else, but instead i stayed to complete my final purchase from this guitar center. I've played drums for 15 years, and can recommend that "Sweetwater" online is the best to go to but if you want a shop, "Salt City Drums" is great, if you play guitar "Guitar Czar" is an awesome spot, if you DJ like me then I've bought a lot of my production gear at "Performance Audio" they have great headphones, synthesizers, etc. Plenty of other places to go get your gear from. read more

We all try to keep things local when possible and do our part for the local economy, etc. etc., but when it comes down to finding an instrument, to having time to sit and tinker with them and get to know them to see what kind of fit they are, the mass quantity of instruments here can't be ignored, if you're at all serious about the instrument, at least for the ones they cover. It just can't. There have got to be upwards of 400 electric guitars, running the entire range and maybe half that of the acoustics and you can take as much time as you could ever want. You can't get past that, when entire inventory at several stores is nowhere near that range. It matters, especially if you're someone fussy like me. I would say that it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait for a holiday, for one of their constant sales, and they can't be used for every single thing you might want to get, but if you need it, chances are good they will have it. It's definitely worth a look. Many of my previous concerns have apparently been addressed and it was a pleasant experience spending time here. read more

Meh. Got kicked out of one in San Francisco years ago when they tried a bait and switch -salesman agreed to one price on the showroom floor for a Les Paul, guy at the register tried to ring it up for over $1,000 higher. We called them out on it, manager was a coked out goon -it got heated, words were exchanged, threats were made (from both sides, actually) and punches about to be thrown when the cops were called, so we bailed. Bought a better guitar elsewhere. It is a nice place to kill time while the wife shops elsewhere in the strip mall. Even better public place to meet someone to sell your used gear if you don't want strangers at your house. Nice selection, wouldn't buy anything there unless I was absolutely in love with it and couldn't find it cheaper (or even the same price) elsewhere. Staff can be a little bitter that their band has not made it big yet and they still have to work retail. Be ready to be ignored. That isn't always a bad thing as sometimes it is nice to just go in and play a variety of gear and be left alone for an hour, thus the 3rd star in the rating.... otherwise they deserve a 2 at best. read more

Not being a musician myself I can't speak for Guitar Center as a whole, but from my experience it is a very nice store. Employees are usually eager to help and knowledgeable about the products. I purchased some pro audio gear here awhile back for a podcast I was working on and the associates in pro audio were a big help. Beyond pro audio gear Guitar Center has a HUGE selection of guitars, drums, keyboards, and just about everything else you could ask for related to music. Although their gear can be pricey sometimes, Guitar Center seems to be pretty competitive on pricing, so if you see a better deal somewhere else let me know and they'll probably match it. My one compliant is the noise level in the store. With so many instruments and demo stations Guitar Center can get pretty noisy and it can be hard to talk. read more

Horrible customer service and resolution practices. We rented two wireless mics for our pride events on 6/4 & 6/5, and the wireless mics were cuttings in and out. They would not work from as far as 15 feet away from the receiver (defeating the purpose of a wireless mic). They did not give us a refund, because they claim their tests proved that they actually work. We also got the incorrect model of lights given to us as well (surprisingly got a refund for that). The store is unorganized and a complete mess. We will not be returning customers. read more

Big box type chain store... lots of employees around, but none were looking to help me. In a weird way, that didn't actually bother me... probably because that's exactly what I expect from chain stores. When I approached an employee and waited a few minutes for him to finish his conversation with another employee, he eventually asked if I needed help. I asked who I should get help from about acoustic electric guitars and he pointed me to another employee a few feet away who hadn't noticed that I was there (yet). Although their attention to customers (my first experience there) wasn't that great, once I had the staff member's attention, he was awesome. He didn't make me feel silly or dumb for not knowing much and asking a lot of questions. The shop has TONS of gear for drums, guitars, keyboards, and more. I was a bit intimidated by all the equipment - it's a really nice, big store with a ton of selection. I had been to another shop the day before in Riverton and after 15 minutes I left because I couldn't get any help at all. He spent about 25 minutes with me answering my questions and was very helpful. After a while I asked if it would be okay if I sat and tried some of the guitars alone for a bit and he said that would be great. They had a pretty darn good selection of acoustic electrics, and I'm going to go back there again today and play some more until I find my true love. They have a humidified room specifically for the acoustic guitars, which was pretty cool. Go check it out. read more
