We tried the rent to own program. When I went in to switch to a different instrument they wouldn't let me switch and told me I had to stay in the same "class". They completely failed to mention this when I originally signed the contract. Manager and staff were courteous but completely unhelpful. Go to Riverton Music or somewhere else. read more

Although I'm an online order shopper most of the time with things like this, I ended up buying from there because their prices are competitive and you can get it right there. In junior high I wanted to play the saxophone. I didn't know much about it, but it looked kind of sexy and I was just the right age where suddenly that mattered a lot. So I showed up to beginning band and when Mr. Lloyd asked who was going to be playing the sax, I shot my hand up in the air. Well, the problem was that so did so many other kids' hands. Apparently my thoughts on shiny sexy instruments were not unique. So after holding out for my dreams for a good minute or two, I reluctantly agreed to switch to the clarinet. The thick-rimmed glasses and klunky shoes cousin to the sax. Whether it was the instrument or myself I'll never know, but I never quite achieved the success with the ladies in junior high that I had hoped for. I did, however, have my first interaction with Summerhays music. We rented a clarinet (the "we" was my parents, although I lugged the thing around every day) for two years. About halfway through the second year I gave up trying to play the thing and just sang the right note through the instrument. And thus ended my illustrious music career. Fast forward to this week, when for the first time since those gloriously awkward years I had another chance to pop in to Summerhays. The place has changed over the few (ha!) years since my early teens, but it's still a sharp place. They clearly have a sharp focus on customer service, as I entered I was approached warmly and then guided directly to the area I was seeking. It was nice, and I found it right away. They've got a wide selection of gear for every popular instrument and style of music out there. And lots of stuff that really confused me. I'm sure it's perfectly normal stuff, but there are a lot of accessories you just never think about. And lots more I've never even imagined. If I have one criticism, it's the checkout procedure. I was in a massive hurry. I found the item thanks to the nice young feller who assisted me. I was ready to pay. And then the questions came: Name. Phone number. Address. City. State. Zip. We went into Summerhays to rent my Middle Schooler a trumpet for his first band instrument for this school year. He thought he wanted to play the trumpet and when we went in, Matthew was very helpful! Matthew sat down with us and brought out the trumpet, a French horn and a trombone. He was so patient with my 6th grader and spent time showing him tips and tricks for each instrument including breathing, posture, hand placement and lip positioning, I was so grateful for Matthew's time and expertise! My son ended up leaving with a trombone and I think it's a great fit for him after Matthew explained the different instruments. He was even complimentary of my son's range and I think that has made a positive impact on my son's enthusiasm to try the trombone. So I've been in band for 6 years now and I honestly don't think I would be where I am right now without Summerhays. The best part of Summerhays is definitely the staff. Every time I go into a facility, I am immediately impressed with how helpful the staff are. They are very friendly and they actually know what they are talking about, whether it's information about music, instruments, accessories, private lessons or just band or orchestra in general they always help me out. I first started band in 7th grade with absolutely no music experience. My parents also had no musical experience and had no idea what kind of instrument to buy, what reeds to get, what cleaning supplies was needed, or what private teachers are good in the area. So I showed up on my first day of summer band of my little 7th grade year and there was a group of Summerhays employees with a instruments to test play and all sorts of other stuff. They let me use one of the clarinets for my first day of practice. While I was in rehearsal the staff answered all the questions multiple parents had. I got a really great head start on my music career I'm a saxophone player and every time It needs a repair, I take it in to Alan, the repair technician at the Layton facility. The repair technicians are top notch. They understand what needs to be done and get it done quickly and accurately. When I last took mine in to get fixed, I noticed the technician had not only changed the pads on my saxophone, but he had also gone the extra mile and tightened all the screws on the horn. Summerhays is an amazing place to whether you're new player or if you have been playing for 40 years. I would strongly recommend taking care of all of your band or orchestra stuff at Summerhays. It was a Friday, 10 minutes until closing time, and I was on a mission to get a cello! Estefan was extremely patient, and pulled several cellos for me to try at different price points. He helped me narrow them down one by one and talked about each one's strengths. It was extremely helpful having him play the final two so I could pick the one that suited me. He went above and beyond and swapped out the tail piece for me, gave me a discount, and he stayed 45 minutes past closing. My husband and I were looking to buy me a trombone after losing mine in a house fire. Finances dictated that I would probably end up with an intermediate horn after viewing online prices. But Lucky me! I recently purchased a "1922 Robert A Dolling" Violin from Estefan Cortez at Summerhays Music store. Wow, what great experience!!! He had so much knowledge of the stringed instruments and gave over the top service. When I went in to buy a violin I was not sure what I wanted, I only knew my budget. Estefan allowed me to play 15 different violins, in the price range I could afford, in a music room and I kept narrowing down the violins until I ended up with the violin I loved to hear and play the most. Then the process repeated itself with many bows. I played them and kept narrowing them down until I found the best bow that was best for me on my new violin. I am soooo happy with the 1922 Robert A. Dolling Violin and beautiful bow I purchased at Summerhays. I love the deep rich tone and ease of playability of this violin, it also projects very well and keeps opening up and getting better and better with time. I highly recommend Estefan Cortez at Summerhays Music store if you need a stringed instrument, this is the place to go. Decent place. The instruments are decent, they're sometimes a bit short on the little things. They'll have some sheet music and not others, or they'll have some string types and not others, and the next time you go in, it's flipped and they had one thing but not the other thing. They're technically a Best in Music downstairs, and a Summerhays on top. read more
