I worked with Jesse and his team to finish a commercial remodeling project that another contractor had done a good job on, but abandoned the project at about 95% done. I paid Jesse $15k to finish this job, and he was aware of each element of the project including trim work, painting, and fixing the floors that were not glued down properly. We started the project well, and the work done on the crown molding looked good. They touched up some drywall texture and it looked really rough in certain areas, and was much heavier than the existing texture. It seemed the guys didn't really know what they were doing with texture. He did fix it somewhat, although there are still areas where you can visibly see it does not match. Also some of the doors/trim that were painted were done quickly with a very heavy textured brush, and should have been done with a light roller to match the others. But for the most part they fixed things we pointed out and they looked better by the end. Where the issues really came in was at the end. Jesse told us to blue tape everything that needed to be redone and we did. They then came and "fixed" it and removed the tape, however we noticed many of the things we taped looked the same and the tape had just been removed. We did that three or four times and there was still things that they were just removing tape on. I then walked it with him and he said he was going to fix the things I pointed out, including flooring that still needed to be glued back down. He then sent guys over and they didn't do any of the things we discussed. He told me to blue tape it AGAIN, and I said no that they are just removing the tape and not doing the work, but if he sends guys we will show them what to fix. Fast forward a few months, and the last few things we had taped were never fixed, floor tiles are still bubbling up that he was supposed to fix, and he says because he did "extra work" that he is no longer responsible to finish the actual job he contractually agreed to. (The "extra work" he referred to was putting in drywall ceiling instead of drop ceiling in a room addition. We had never discussed or agreed to a drop ceiling so I was going to cancel the job, but he agreed to switch it to keep the job.) I tried to come to an agreement with him and potentially give him more work if he finished the previous job. However he didn't even show up when he said he would to quote me on it, so at this point I'm just going to find a new contractor. I'm disappointed but I only want to work with people who keep their word and honor their contracts. Attached part of contract and screenshots of texts. read more

One of the worst contractors I have ever worked with. I was deceived in the beginning by his professionalism and promptness, as well as the formal estimate by email. Jesse and I seemed to be on the same page prior to the job starting and days into it. Initially he estimated the job would take 4 days, but 4 days into it, they were barely halfway done. Everything was great while I was there supervising, but as usual, once I left to go out of town, he left his family unsupervised to finish the job. Apparently his brother has never run a texture gun before. They were suppose to send me a picture of texture sample PRIOR to texturing THE ENTIRE HOUSE. Didn't happen. Texture is wrong and looks like crap. They let it dry too long and it didn't get knocked down on most of the walls, just looks like heavy splatter. All of the cracks that he was hired to repair, cracked again weeks later, only to find out they didn't use any paper tape over the cracks, just mudded right over them so it would look good long enough to get a check. They put plastic down on all the wood floors, which they punctured holes in/tore while working. Apparently they spilled water while mixing mud, going through the plastic, which warped and stained the wood floor. They're so lazy, they even mudded AROUND an old light fixture that was suppose to have been removed, and it wasn't even level. Told them last minute to NOT texture kitchen and utility room, as we decided to demo instead. They textured it anyway and then expected to be paid for it after telling them not to. Somewhere in all the projects, there was a misunderstanding that the cracks in the garage not only needed repair, but the entire garage also needed textured. That was an additional $1k, only to come back and find that they textured over plywood wall patches and cardboard that they were hired to pull and repair and once again, mudded over cracks without taping them. They failed to cover the garage floor, or anything in there for that matter, so there is texture on the curbing and the concrete floor, as well as ALL of the items that were in the garage, they said they would move out. He contacted me while i was out of town to let me know the job was done and to ask for payment. I had my partner drop him a check for the full amount. He also tried to tell me that telling them NOT to do the kitchen/utility room was considered "a change order" when i asked why the bill was still for the full amount when i told them to not do the kit/utility. I was told they did it anyway by mistake. I've been in construction my whole life, a change order is when you ADD something, not take it out. When I returned from out of town 2 weeks later, I found all the issues I've listed, and more. Not to mention they left a mound of trash bags on the back porch for us to deal with. Called Jesse only to find he was unresponsive by phone several times, and when I did finally reach him, I was told they were already on another job and it would be weeks before he could get back over. He was irritated that I brought up the concrete splattered all over the garage and asked he if they were suppose to scrub it off...uh well yeah, I didn't make the mess. Said he would be back to fix everything but never heard from him again. At this point, I don't want them touching any of my properties. It cost us a couple thousand dollars to have the wood floors refinished because you can't just sand one part/room and match it. Also had to have all the cracks repaired again, as well as the entire garage redone. And guess who paid for that and got to clean the messes up...not Rangel Construction! read more

There are good and bad things about my experience with Jesse for a small but needed job. The good: he was willing to come out quickly for an estimate and was on time. I know he came all the way from Ft Worth and that he was aware that it was a small job, so I really appreciated the fact that he would come out to Dallas for some drywall repair and patch work that I had requested. The bad: at the time of the walk through of my townhome, I had requested several specific repairs. In one small bathroom I had a towel rack that had pulled out of the wall and there was damage to the wall adjacent to the bathtub. I told him I wanted the wall by the tub cut and patched with dry wall and the towel rack moved and rehung/anchored with the old holes patched over. Then there were holes in another area from heavy mirrors that were to be filled. When he finished 3+ hours later, I came to see the repairs and was surprised. The towel rack was in the same place with an adhesive glue around the wall attachments, and the area by the tub was only slightly different. When I asked if he had rehung the towel rack, he said he had just used bigger screws in to the existing wall anchors, and then applied adhesive to the places where the rack meets the wall. Then when I asked if had cut in a drywall patch to the previously inadequately repaired wall adjacent to the tub, he said no, that he had just gone over it again and mudded the area and retextured it--so the wall is no more strong than it was before he started the job. And then he wanted to charge $200 to paint over the patches with our paint. Even though I questioned his methods (especially since the way he went about things was in no way the work I had requested) he did not seem bothered by the fact that things weren't done the way I had anticipated. I suspect with contractors when you are a woman, they are less interested in completing jobs as requested because they assume we don't know what we are talking about, but I don't think it is appropriate to outright say you didn't do the task that was asked of you, and not show any interest or effort in taking steps towards doing the tasks that were asked. I didn't feel I could say anything at the time because he had an air about him like he wasn't there aiming to please and I did not think I could get anywhere with him. In hindsight, I probably should have had several contractors come and give estimates and had my husband with me (he was at work) to review the outcome. I feel took in this case--especially with the amount that was paid for the work that wasn't done at all the way I had requested. I'm disappointed and have to say it's just more of the "same old, same old" we all run in to with contractors in this case. It's hard to know who you can count on and who is listening. I don't believe he listened to anything I said and now I'm frustrated left with less than I asked for and having paid more than I should have. read more

I have been very disappointed with the level of communication from this company. I was looking to hire them to repaint a good portion of the interior of my house, refurbish cabinets, and update my kitchen cabinets/sink. Unfortunately, I've experienced poor responsiveness to date via both email and phone calls. Additionally, when I was able to finally get them to come out to my property to provide me a quote, they were quite late. After the employee arrived, he walked through the house, but didn't take any measurements (like most companies would in order to provide an accurate quote). It is now almost 3 weeks later and I still haven't received my quote despite my efforts to contact them multiple times. I'm extremely disappointed they have wasted so much of my time.
