Lemme just say: I was absolutely DELIGHTED to see a' AYCE Hot Pot location…read more
I had spent 2 months in Heidelberg, and I was seriously homesick for some good hotpot. This place turned out to be a mere 5 minutes walk from my hostel when my friend and I had stayed a night in Frankfurt. It's super close to the Hauptbahnhof (like, basically in front of it).
When I went in, I asked the lady for a table for two at the counter and she instantly handed me the drinks menu. I thought that that was strange, but I ordered a drink for my friend and I and she went on to make the drinks without seating us. Unsure of what to do, I sat us down ourselves, waiting for someone to come over and ask us what kind of soup we wanted for our hotpot.
I waited about 10 minutes before finally just asking someone. They were very nice about it (probably partly because I spoke Chinese), but it did take quite a while and there was no real service. Also, the cost of the AYCE is kinda deceitful. It says on the menu that it costs €16 for the AYCE hotpot without soup, and an extra €2 with soup. But what does that even mean?? How can you have hotpot without soup? It's only €2, but it's kinda the principle of the thing.
Now about the food: it's pretty epic. There's a spot when you first walk in with dozens of different, authentic hotpot ingredients which you are allowed to take as much as you want (it is an AYCE!). It ranges from seaweed to fatty beef to dumplings to fish tofu and even pig brains. Seriously. Fantastic variety. There's also a station to make sauces with a dozen ingredients laid out for you. Their dessert selection is also great. There's a soft serve machine and really good éclairs.
We both got our fill and left. Warning: they only take local banks or cash. Visas are not accepted.
TL;DR: food was great. Service was pretty ehhhh. Definitely still worth a visit.
