Two days ago, I had the first set of spinal injections. It took four months to get on their schedule, which is absurd to begin with. Although IUH has all of my current info (including insurance... I was just in their hell hole that they call an emergency room the day before) I received non-stop automated calls from the billing office to "please wait while we connect you to someone to help." That someone never picked up. After waiting on hold three times for more than 10 minutes, I left a message for them to stop calling. At the Surgery Center, everyone was kind and efficient. I was in and out within about an hour and a half. So, kudos there. This morning, I received a follow-up call from the Surgery Center. If you're familiar with IUH, they only care about what your pain level is on a scale from 1-10. Well, I couldn't answer that question because I'm not experiencing pain exactly, but rather the feeling best described as a low voltage electrical charge in the area of the injections. Being on chemo for nearly five years, at times, my mind isn't very clear and have some difficulty expressing myself. The follow-up call lasted exactly 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Before the line was disconnected, I heard the woman say to her coworker, "That was a long winded call!" WOW, REALLY?! So sorry to have been a bother to you, lady. My spouse was sitting next to me and heard it as well. I immediately called back and told her (I didn't catch her mush-mouth name) that I heard what she said. After a long pause, she lied and said she wasn't referring to me. Once she realized she was caught in her lie, she started throwing out apologies. I don't take apologies from liars and hung up on her. I left a message on the main line (which is only a recording) stayinyg that I wanted to talk to the director. We'll see if that happens. I also sent a message to IUH through the patient portal. I received an automated email stating that someone from the appropriate area would call. We'll see if that happens, too. From my experience over the past two years (aside from PT and my GI) IUH is the absolute worst. I would probably fall off my chair if I came across a doctor that actually cared or had any empathy. The same is true with most of the nurses. The following BS is from the Senate Street Surgery Center: "Your successful outcome is always our goal. You will be supported by expert staff and the highest standards of quality and safety." What a joke!

When it came time for my appointment the front desk receptionist rudely said that I could not come in at that time. Not at all bothering to check with Dr or nurse ...cut me off several times and talked over me as if I was 2 years old. So I told her to cancel the appointment. So, Someone from the center called me back later that day but I missed the call, and when I did a follow up call, the front office lady had no notes and made up that it was to bring my meds. I never have to because they have a list already. This place they will make up stuff to tell you just to get you out of their hair. They are unprofessional, rude, incompetent and clue-less. Which is too bad because the Dr. is patient but her office staff is arrogant and unbearable. I will never return. The customer service is ridiculous. It is usually anyway, but somehow has gotten worse!

My most recent wellness visit is a perfect example of this. I went to my primary care physician for my annual wellness visit. The nurse took my vitals and gave me a flu shot. My doctor brought up 2 issues during this visit. The first - insomnia - is no longer an issue, and I informed my doctor of this immediately after she asked about it. The second - high cholesterol - was just briefly mentioned by my doctor since she did not have my lab results at the time. Again, my doctor brought up these issues and the extent of "care" I received was just her asking a question. I was billed for an "office visit" and the codes submitted to my insurance indicated the additional charges were related to diagnosis/care related to insomnia and high cholesterol. This isn't the first time something like this has happened but it will certainly be the last.

Rural networks are starved for talent, equipment, and resources!!), Community Network has been a mess. They stopped communicating, allowed nearly a month to pass before letting me know my doctor had quit, and sent a no-reply message to offer two alternatives, one of which was a doctor I had quit after one visit. I knew I would likely need to leave them once they announced a two-stage confirmation process just to log in to my chart. With just my phone and no computer, I could not comply with their requirement. So, how am I to reply to the automated appointments for services that I had not asked for, nor expected? With primaries leaving Indy networks, available alternatives who are accepting new patients are few and far between. (Governor Braun should stick to systems he actually understands!) T. L.
