I was looking for a local CPA after moving back to Texas. I found Justin through a Google search…read moreand chose him based on the positive reviews from other clients. At the time, I was going through a divorce and needed help sorting through a complicated tax situation. I first met with him in March 2025 and didn't have a follow-up appointment until September 2025. Initially, I planned to file separately. However, during our September meeting, Justin advised that my ex-husband and I should file a joint return for the 2023 tax year, the year we separated, because it would save us money. Based on that advice, I waited while he communicated with my ex-husband and gathered the necessary documentation. Months passed without any updates. In December, I emailed Justin three separate times before finally receiving a response. During that time, I also received notices from the IRS regarding late filings and penalties. When I finally heard back, I learned that Justin had filed my 2024 tax return separately in October without informing me. He then told me that filing jointly would not have resulted in significant savings after all. Had that been communicated to me earlier, I could have made an informed decision. At a minimum, I believe he should have called me before changing course and filing my return. I also discovered something much more concerning: he had never filed my 2023 tax return. Instead, he had filed my 2024 return, despite charging me $310 for preparing and filing my 2023 return. Because I was dealing with my divorce and the sale of my home, I did not have the mental bandwidth to immediately address the situation and needed to find another CPA. Eventually, I contacted the CPA my ex-husband and I had worked with while we were stationed in Arizona. Although I had moved to Texas, I learned he could still assist me. In February 2026, I contacted Justin to request all of my tax documents so I could transfer them to my former CPA. I was finally able to pick them up in April. Before releasing my documents, Justin wanted to meet with me. During that meeting, he could not explain why my 2023 return had never been filed. Ironically, the morning of our meeting, he submitted a request for verification of non-filing for my 2023 tax return. He acknowledged that he had let me down and offered to file the return at no additional charge after I consulted with my new CPA. Ultimately, my former CPA resolved everything quickly and professionally. Despite being in another state, communication was prompt, clear, and consistent throughout the process. I also requested a refund of the $310 I paid Justin for preparing and filing my 2023 return, since it was never filed and cost me hundreds more in late/penalty fees. To date, I have not received that refund. Now that my tax matters have been resolved, I intend to file complaints with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) and the Texas Society of CPAs regarding my experience.

Harvey always answers our tax questions the same day or the next. After we send in our documents for taxes to be done Harvey always completes them in a few days. The process is very efficient and you are kept informed of every step of the way. We like Harvey so much we have told all of our kids about him and know some of them are also using his tax service and asking questions. They tell us he responds very quickly. After reading the reviews, I decided to go with Meyer Books and Tax Services.  I got all my…read morepaperwork together and wrote out everything that took place during the year.  Melissa drove out to my home to pick up my paperwork and advised it would be 2 weeks.  After me reaching out to check status, I finally received my taxes a day before 3 weeks. I opened up my tax returns and it showed I owed almost $50,000.  I immediately contacted Melissa with questions I had regarding Capital Gains.  These questions were regarding the dollar amount that would be excluded before being taxed as income, etc.  She told me to give her my questions and she would get back to me.  I felt as a tax service she should have been able to answer these right away (red flag).  Shortly after I receive a text telling me I can breathe the issue was fixed.  I now owed close to $4,000. The next morning, I sat down and went over the tax returns.  I normally do them myself so have some knowledge but I had several things that took place this last year so decided to hire a CPA.  Sent an email over asking to provide me the breakdown of how she was getting a few of the numbers.  Noticed donations weren't showing, general sales taxes weren't adding up, etc.  She replies to my email and I pick up the phone to talk to her to help avoid miscommunication.  I ask where the commissions I paid to sell my other house are?  Calculating with her as we spoke to what the line item should reflect.  We hang up the phone with the understanding she will be emailing me the corrected tax forms, etc.  I open them up and AGAIN the number is wrong!  I call back and her response was we got to talking.  Then I see she has the wrong year I purchased the home I sold (she put 2020, when it was 2010) (which could have caused major issues with Capital Gains). I am not kidding when I say I probably had to reach out 4 or 5 times to have things corrected.  Then I get the bill.  I was really surprised she charged me after my taxes basically went from me owing almost $50,000.00 to me owing a little over $400.00, BY MY DOING.  I advise her of how I feel and her response was "dually noted".  Had I not had any tax knowledge I would have sent the IRS a check for close to $50,000.00.  Appalling!
