I was there for 50 days and I had low expectations being In jail, but after talking to other inmates I realized how much things could've been prevented. There's mold everywhere, even in the "cleaning bottles." They never swap or clean the mops, so when I had to mop my poop covered cell floors, they put it back in the closet to be used the next time the main area was mopped. I was left in a cell with my cellmate, for 24 hours, when the toilet didn't work. It wasn't until I started acting crazy that they suddenly had time. And then I had to pick between three cells where the toilets still didn't work, and a former mentally I'll inmate had clogged all the toilets to where the floor and wall were covered in poop and poop covered rags. Which we had to clean. There's no cohesion between the rules applied between COs. So all of a sudden you'll be locked down or taken to the hole for something you were allowed to do your entire stay so far. NOTHING gets done for you unless you act crazy. You're ignored and shushed for everything. "Next shift, after med call, after lunch" and it'll be things like getting moved to a room that works! I got a bloody nose during my quarantine, and they took a whole set of clothes, and the rest of my stay I sent 5+ request forms to get a second pair and I was never given one. And so it was hard to clean and air dry them overnight bc the rooms are FREEZING 24/7 constant hard stream of cold air. And I can't send them to laundry bc I'd have to be locked down all day for not having clothes. And I got told I'd go to the hole if I got up for breakfast again without my top shirt. So I'd have to wear freezing wet clothes. They're supposed to provide new underwear every 6 months, but my cellmate was denied them bc "she orders packages so why not buy them." The longjohns I was given were covered in layers and layers of dirt and blood. I know jail food has a bad reputation, and people don't think inmates deserve good food. But this jail is known for having exceptionally horrible food, and I agree. The same "ham" is given every meal almost just cut in different shapes. There's hair in everything. There's never any seasoning or fresh vegetables or fruit. The vegetables you get are a couple of boiled carrots or green beans. The portions are that of a child, and nothing about the meal has any substance so you're not full right after eating. Plain brown rice, plain beans, five at most boiled carrots, and a piece of corn bread. Their are standards for jails that they legally have to meet, and it's not happening. Apparently they're supposed to provide medical assistance during withdrawl, but they don't! I got told I was fine, and for five days before I gave up, I was told they'd help me with diarrhea and to keep it in my toilet until the next check. No one ever checked it, I was extremely dehydrated and starving, and was basically living in diarrhea air just waiting for someone to come. I saw three women have seizures from alcohol withdrawl while I was there. The water is in no way clean, I got water bumps all over my body just from showering, and it's just dirty in general. The Cos constantly antagonize you, taking away your free time just bc they can. Many people have heard them joke about how they thought a code was supposed to be called at 3:15 but the person had forgotten to. They purposely fake codes within 30-45 min of when we'd go in anyways, so by the time it gets "called off" we couldn't go out anyways. When the trainees went away to their 10 week course, there was a week where we didn't leave our room once, but there were three COs doing checks during every shift. There's only three areas that need a guard, so there was no reason for it. It's just a bunch of lazy people who don't want to be there. Being in there is hard enough, there's no reason why people should be able to abuse their power for their own power trip and satisfaction. There's so many laws being broken but they know the people being abused are broke and can't do anything about it. read more
