I had had the bond replaced a…read morecouple times and it was always too big for my mouth, so my husband and I decided it was time to get it fitted correctly and crowned. I made my first appointment. A few days before the appointment, it was canceled. I called back to reschedule and met Dr. Stoddart. I was EXTREMELY pleased with her at first. I swore I would never see another dentist again. After the appointment, they wanted me to drive to the lab in Branford to make sure the crown would fit (or that's what they told me). I show up in Branford and they were like "uhh we only match the color?" I was in the chair for less than 60 seconds before they told me I was done and the color would be fine. Okay? Meanwhile Dr. Stoddart had cut my mouth a few times shaping my tooth for a permanent crown and she absolutely tore up my gum. I couldn't eat anything but soft food for 3 weeks after and I had nerve pain going from my tooth to halfway up my nose. My gum was black and blue and bleeding for literally a few weeks. Yesterday was my appointment for my new crown. I showed up early and it was super busy. I sat down in the chair and Dr. Stoddart told me she didn't like how the lab shaped the back of the new tooth. There was a little piece on the back that stuck out. She told me she didn't have time to fix it or she would get behind on my patients. I've never had a doctor say that to me before, so I just looked at her and said okay, I'll come back this week. She took the temporary crown that she had just taken off and reattached it. Unbeknownst to me, it has a huge break in the back of it where it met my gum. It was literally a hole in the back of the tooth. She reattached it, and as I was checking out I realized the hole. I freaked out a little, especially when they told me I couldn't come back until December 22. The past 24 hours has been lots of fun, where every drink I take a sip of, I can feel the liquid floating in the back of the temporary. The office called later that day to fit me in for today (the following day). I showed up 15 minutes early and expected my permanent crown. When I sat down in the chair, she said I couldn't use that one, it had the piece sticking out still. I was surprised and asked if she could just drill it off and she said no, she needed to get another tooth made from the lab. At this point I'm really upset. Then she numbs me up and starts shaping my tooth more. To say I'm in pain is an understatement. I was writhing on the chair with tears pouring down my cheeks in serious pain. The back of my tooth felt like there was a massive hole leading into my palette. I didn't even cry in the childbirth of my two children but this was intolerable. After her THREE impressions were done and my mouth was literally burning, she made a new temporary crown for me. I made the follow-up appointment for December 22. I walked to my car, got in and looked in the mirror. You can literally see the remnants of my real tooth under the temporary. There are spots on the temporary. It doesn't line up. It's adhered to the tooth to the right of it. It is an absolute joke and to make it all the better, I'm seeing my family for Thanksgiving in 2 days. I wish I could give less than 1 star for this. Let's not forget the fact that I paid $500 so far. Three appointments, one lab trip to Branford and a mouth full of pain. That's what $500 has bought me.

Office is very clean. I also had a tooth extraction, bone graft dental implant last week by Dr. Kang. He was excellent. I was very nervous about the procedure, but he explained everything in simple detail (so that I could understand what he was talking about.) He expressed concern for my comfort throughout the procedure and checked frequently to make sure I was not feeling any pain. Highly recommend this practice.

Goldstein and Waterman who are no longer affiliated with the practice. But, at my last visit, I was disappointed by the lack of standard of dental care I received. First, the hygienist, Laurie, who wasn't the one I had made an appointment with, kept me waiting 15 minutes. After she cleaned my teeth, she didn't polish or floss them; nor did she ask me if I wanted a fluoride treatment, which I usually get. Then, a dentist, Dr. Zhang, unfamiliar to me, briefly looked at my teeth and told me I needed "overlays" on a few of my bottom teeth which have been slightly chipped for years. Dr. Zhang did not visually and physically check my face, neck, lips, tongue and throat for any abnormal lumps, red or white patches, or sores. She did not ask me to bite down to evaluate tooth alignment and check for temporomandibular joint disorder or teeth grinding or check the depth of spaces between my teeth and gums to screen for gingivitis or periodontitis. When I asked about my regular dentist, Dr. Wateman, Dr. Zhang told me he no longer worked there. Due to the lack of standard of dental care provided by Newington Family Dental Practice and recent turnover rate of personnel, I would not recommend this practice.

I first went there about 5 years ago and have a pretty good dental anxiety, they were quick to understand that and were excellent to show compassion and always gentle care. I needed implants which required numerous visits and extensive procedures, and honestly there never was any pain or discomfort. Making appointments is super easy--the front office people are kind both in phone and in person. I've visited several of the hygienists on Dr. Mumford's team for cleanings. Danielle is my usual and she is awesome. She is actually fun to spend an hour of my day with! She is very gentle and as good at talking with me about ways I can improve my daily dental hygiene as she is chatting about daily life. I have also visited Monica, Julie, and Laurie who are all very gentle. I can genuinely say I enjoy coming to the dentist for appointments, because it's relaxing! Dr. Mumford will always talk with me about spots that could be prone to cavities and teaches me how to clean so that I can stop any decay that could happen. He presents options when I do have a problem so I can decide what is best financially for me and also for my dental health. I recently had a chip in a molar and Dr. Mumford was really good at being as minimally invasive as possible. We tried just filling the chip, but then decided to make everything more stable after I ate something chewy and the composite came out. He redid my current filling (which was really poorly shaped from a previous dentist) and connected it to the filled chip. He made my tooth look like a tooth instead of a flat ice skating rink! He is very talented, patient, and detail oriented. Dory assisted and knew what he needed and when: she is clearly very experienced and talented with what she does. Babette is excellent with the administrative side of Dr. Mumford's practice. She is super nice and always helps me understand insurance billing, my balance, etc., without any discomfort. She is always happy and seems to love doing her job. While chatting one visit, I asked Dr. Mumford what he likes best about being a dentist, and he told me he loves helping people make changes in their dental health and routines that help improve their quality of life. He said he loves helping people improve their confidence and happiness because of how their teeth look an feel. An employee came up to me in the waiting room to do x rays before I had seen the dentist for him to make a recommendation for x rays and when I had already sent them x rays. The office is large and impersonal. You have to go through the office manager to ask questions to the dentist and don't know if emails go directly to him. When I first called to make an appointment, I was told a dental assistant would do the exam not the dentist. I found that troubling. There is free outdoor parking
