So I initially wanted to give this place 2 stars upon walking in and looking around...but I just can't. I'll tell you why in a few. Follow me...
The store is a bare bones store. Not much to look at. There's an article about a guy who does hand carved woodwork, but no woodwork in the store. It's a bit musty smelling inside. The "sales counter" is a small desk. On the walls are some sequin wall hangings...to frame, or maybe make a pillow out of (not my taste, a bit showy). Hand painted silk scarves hung by the door (very pretty, but not my style)...and that's about it for now. The clerk said they will have more by the 4th of July, since it is a new location, and they are shipping more in.
So...I would be an a-hole if I didn't give this bare bones place at least 3 stars...because I then found out that everything is made by women in Haiti, and the proceeds are getting shipped back to them. AMAZING!! If you are in the area, please check them out. Hopefully they will have more things soon, but just on the idea alone, I am impressed that a random little store off the beaten path in Wellfleet would be helping out Haiti in this way.
I was with my father at the time. He asked me what I was thinking when I suggested coming into this store when we first walked in. Upon walking out, we had a warm feeling in our hearts. Thank you Rara for being so caring and helpful to the women of Haiti! :) read more
