I have a deep, unashamed love for any food substance that combines copious amounts of carbs and cheese. So of course, I love pizza, even if my waistline does not. And so I was overjoyed when, a bit worse for wear from too much sunshine and booze elsewhere, we came across Ravalo, festooned with fairylights in a quiet courtyard.
A sister venue to the Invisible Bar next door, Ravalo is kitted out in much the same manner: small, dark and cosy, with moody lighting from lanterns and candles. Like most restaurants in Barcelona, if you rock up before ten, you'll be eating on your own or accompanied only by other tourists. But since this place has been in a handful of the popular guide books like Lonely Planet, this place soon got busy while we were there.
The pizzas are cheap, ginormous, and delicious, and the wine is strong and affordable (which when feasting on carbs is all I care about. Sorry, wine snobs!)The service wasn't overly friendly, but it was polite and speedy. The only slight downside is that the only bathrooms are in Invisible Bar next door. Which, if it's raining and you have to do a dash out and around, or if the bar next door's busy can be a bit of a unnecessary hassle.
