My mother had an issue with double vision and because she is in her late 80s, 2 specialists refused to do the corrective surgery. I took her to see Dr Doobay and he said her prescription just needs to be changed and the problem will go away. For the first time in almost 3 years my mom was able to see perfectly!!! I was in a rush and needed to get my eyes tested - I was leaving a company and wanted to get my glasses/contacts before I left (max out the benefits, you pay into them - soooo) I knew that there was an eye doctor near my office under the Bay. I made an apt and went in. The receptionist was the sweetest girl in the world! She was so polite and answered all my questions. The doctor on the other hand was a JERK. He was arrogant and rude. He tested me with my glasses on.....never had that done before....but who am I to judge, I'm not a doctor. Apparently he wanted to do that to see what the difference would be - and to ensure that his testing was correct....make sense, but it's weird! He told me he was going to dilate my eyes, as I had been having head aches.....cool - he's being through. He neglected to tell me there was a charge for this. So when I went to pay it was more then what I had agreed to....I told them I wasn't paying for it as I was not told of the additional cost. They didn't charge me, but he proceeded to attack his receptionist IN FRONT OF ME about it! It wasn't her fault, it was his! HORRIBLE DOCTOR! NEVER GO TO HIM. read more

The receptionist is one of the rudest people I have interacted with while living in Canada. Like the reviewer below, I was put off by the doctor's failure to ask if I wanted to have my eyes dilated--obviously, $$ is more important than the fact that I have had my eyes dilated three times in the past three years. Otherwise, nice guy. Too bad you have to interact with that receptionist to get an appointment. BTW, I also saw the doctor at the Yonge/Bloor location, not at the Scarborough location. read more

Dr. Ravi is a very nice Doctor, and the receptionists seem nice, but I get the sense of feeling rushed when talking to them. I went to him when I was 20 years old (near perfect vision -0.25/-0.50.) Then went back 7 years later at age 27 because I was noticing that I'm not seeing well in the distance. Still managed to get by everyday stuff. He said my eyes got "significantly worse" gave me prescriptions of -1.25/-1.50 plus 0.75 astigmatism in both eyes. Wow way worse! I wore contact lenses at that prescription for over a year. I continuously experienced headaches and started noticing trouble reading documents on my computer screen. So last month, I went to another optometrist. She did a full exam plus a follow up 2 weeks later. She said the contacts I wore in the past were much too strong, which may have attributed to the headaches and the issues with reading documents on computer screen at a near distance. She gave me new contacts at -1.00/1.25 to try. And we settled on a prescription of -1.00/-1.00 and -0.25/-0.5 for the astigmatism. Much better! No more headaches!!! Woohoo! read more

I recently moved to Toronto from Calgary. Unfortunately, during the process of unpacking, I lost my glasses. Needless to say, I was in a bind. I am really dependent on them. I went online to find an optometrist close by and came across Dr. Ravi K. Doobay. I called his office at about 7:00pm on a wednesday evening. I got through to his receptionist, who told me they were about to close for the evening. I explained my situation to her and asked if there was any way the doctor could see me. She said she would ask the doctor for me. To my surprise, Dr. Doobay came on the phone. He asked what my concern was and how far away I was. So I told him about loosing my glasses ant that I was appox. 20 minutes drive away. To my further surprise he said he would stay back to check my eye (just come in). I arrived at his office 30 minutes latter. He was really pleasant and professional. He explained why he did each test and the the results meant. No other Optometrist ever did that before. It was the most thorough exam I had ever had. He was fantastic. He has a patient for life. read more
