We had booked the party 2 months in advance and picked the song off the list they provided. We were told that the song would be on the tv screen so the kids could read it. Instead when we arrived the song was printed on a piece of paper for the kids to hold. We were very disappointed and underwhelmed by the experience from start to finish. the administrative help were very friendly with booking the party and securing the date, We found the actual party to be disappointing. The woman who 'taught' the kids to learn the song was boring, disinterested and lacked the type of enthusiam that was needed to ensure the kids were excited to record. All she did was give out a piece of paper and had the kids practice over and over. She did not split them into groups, nor make it fun and kept looking at the clock to see 'when they could go to the studio.' She then kept saying to the group of 8 year olds 'are you nervous.' Instead of encouraging them and being enthusiastic. She was disorganized and when asked if the kids wanted to sing the song again had the majority of the kids say 'no,' even the adults were not wanting to sing again.she made little effort to break up the song, make it more interesting. it was an overall disappointing experience for my daughter. If you do a party there, make sure you find out who will lead it.The facility is nice and clean.. the employees will do minimal extra for you. You will take the lead on setting up the room and will need to ask for them to get out tables for the party. I had higher hopes. It is a nice facility and for the price of the party it was just okay. We have had much better parties.

All the kids came out smiling from ear to ear saying they wanted to take singing lessons. But my own spirited daughter said forget singing...she saw a drum set at Bach to Rock and thought that looked way more fun. She's asking for a new activity every few weeks so I tend to ignore her requests until she asks at least a dozen times...and she kept asking. Finally I agreed to drum lessons if she went to Glencoe Academy of Music since it's so close to my house. I'm all about the least amount of driving possible being a busy working mom of 3 kids. She agreed and I sent an email to Glencoe Music Academy asking for info...and very quickly heard back from Brandon who got us scheduled with Mark. Glencoe Music Academy may be convenient, but the lessons would be well worth it even if we had to drive there. Mark is patient, fun and my daughter comes out with a huge smile every week. To be honest I thought drumming was just making a lot of banging noise, but I've been really surprised (and pleased) with how much coordination is involved w/ playing the drums...and it's been fun to see her make progress. She also has a bunch of friends who take guitar lessons with Carlos and are very pleased as well. The lessons themselves are pretty expensive, but I think that's to be expected when it comes to private music lessons. I haven't agreed to an expensive (and loud!) drum set quite yet, but Mark has offered a few times that he can come with us to the store to help us pick one out when/if the time comes. In the meantime, I'm happy with her playing on her little amazon pad to keep the noise down a bit in my house.

It brings downtown and area musicians to the North Shore. Carlos and his staff are amazing, talented and fun people who know how to motivate the young and the old! Situated in the middle of downtown Glencoe, next to Foodstuffs, the studio is easy to get to and has plenty of parking with a public lot right behind the building. If you are thinking of taking up an instrument or want to work on your karaoke skills (seriously Kay Rutherford is an amazing vocal instructor), GAM is the place to go. All the instructors are performers in their own right and have the skills, patience and knowledge to make you a better performer!

DELETED BY COMPANY. CUZ THEY KNOW IT'S TRUE…read more This used to be the gold standard for sheet music (I would know--I worked for Carl Fischer back in the day, on Wabash). They were always a bit on the snooty side, but at least they had the goods (such as they were), and a good crowd. Well, today, after years away from Chicago, I walked in to literal radio silence (they used to always have on classical/WFMT) and one girl sitting in the corner so far back I thought she was a disembodied voice. She was pleasant enough at first, but after I asked for 10% off of an anthology with a clearly damaged cover (both ends curled up straight into the air), it went downhill from there. I also had a number of used choral pieces, and when I asked what the price of some of the unmarked ones were, she pointed to the new price and told me, "I didn't understand what she was talking about." I said, "That's the new price," to which she testily told me, "You don't have to buy it." Huh??!! So, at her suggestion, I didn't. Saved me about $50, probably. But it also cost them the same. Not that this girl (who I tried with all my might to engage, with even more radio silence as the result) seemed to care. I was just short of boring her by saying that going through that music made me nostalgic for Fischer. The old days. But that store, like so many things of that nature, are long gone. And judging by their empty store, they soon will be, too. And in this particular case, I say Good Riddance

The practice rooms were good! Very convenient. A great selection of sheet music too! Helpful staff…read moretoo

The prices are better than most (you get a free lesson just to try them out) and the customer service is impressive. We were going to another shop for the first few months of the school year and that was turning into a disaster as the teacher was inconsistent and had difficulty showing up for our pre-arranged time slot (he was coming in from "the city" to Deerfield and always had an excuse due to train problems) This made me search out a new place and I found Anderson Musik almost by accident. It's an extra few minutes drive to get there, but worth it in my opinion. Our current instructor, James, is fantastic! We love him! He is great with my son. He gives him a lot of encouragement, challenges him with new assignments and has the patience of a saint from what I can tell. Very Zen. Plus, he is ALWAYS ON TIME!! (he even spends extra time with my son if he has a cancellation after our time or we get there early, which is fantastic) As for the shop, the owner (I think) Elsa is fabulous. Very friendly and chatty, she makes sure that there is always fresh coffee brewing and some type of baked good to keep the siblings happy along with lots of magazines and coloring supplies to make the waiting time fly by. It is clean and friendly. I love this shop so much that I am going to send our other son there for trumpet instruction this coming school year, as well as rent his instrument from Anderson Musik (say goodbye to that other Deerfield shop!) A great choice for music instruction!!
