I was looking for a real estate knowledgeable tax CPA/tax preparation. After seeing Raymond listed on Mark Kholer's website I called and asked several questions to make sure it's a fit. Based on the conversation I gave them a try. This was a big mistake. This office contracts with staff from India they don't know anything outside of the tax program. You don't get your questions answered and you have to follow up to try and get a response. I submitted my documents a month in advance and they wanted to charge me a late fee, late because they didn't work on my taxes for weeks. If you are a business owner I would not use this CPA unless of course you don't care about having confidence in your taxes. Believe the negative reviews. Raymond Young CPA is unprofessional, mistake prone and takes no responsibility when his form makes a mistake. I hired Raymond for my taxes for many years and assumed that his organization was competent. When I added my new LLC to my tax situation, I needed more careful attention. I made an appointment to have one of his staff come to my home office. Raymond promised a person would be there at a specific time. On that day, I cleared my calendar, and waited, and she never showed up. When I asked her why she didn't show up, she said, "Raymond agreed, not me!" That same year, I found out by way of a scary letter from the IRS that Raymond Young CPA had not even filed my 2017 taxes! But still charged me as if they had. I was pissed and called Raymond but he took ZERO responsibility for the giant mistake! No apology. Acted offended I even brought it up. Unreal. My business Is far too important to trust with arrogance and incompetence. So I found a respected business/wealth-management CPA firm. When I contacted Raymond in email to tell him I was making a CPA change, asking him to forward PDF returns to the new CPA, he was rude and unresponsive! He acted like a child after being his customer for well over a decade! Fast forward 6 months -- I had my new accountant re-prepare 2017 (yes I had to pay 2x for prep). He immediately found over $20K in additional tax savings in that year, that Raymond, did not. Clearly Raymond's firm, in addition to their lack of integrity, does the bare minimum in preparing taxes and often less than that (i.e., forgetting to file!). Visited this office after being referred by a friend - huge mistake. Yea they're quick and easy, but god forbid you actually need their help. They had me pay my fees in total in their office, yet I received a letter from IRS saying I owe them almost $2K. My boyfriend - same. Mr. Young, even though he apologized, literally yelled at him over the phone. I have yet to receive my stimulus checks that they said I would, not are they even trying to help me in my situation after taking my money. Raymond had done my taxes for a few years however this year, I have decided to go with another account firm because they are unprofessional, unreliable, and overcharge. I'm leaving this review today because I just received an invoice for $100 for services I never consented to. I did not contact them to prepare my taxes this year and my taxes have already been done, however, I received an invoice from them, that they sent in a form to avoid late penalties, and a bunch of other things done on my behalf, again with zero consent from me I never contacted them. Allegedly their office hours say open but every time I call it goes to voicemail. I have left a voicemail and nobody has called me back. I sent an email and the only response I got was "ok will cancel. Have a good day." Yet no explanation as to why this was filed, and what happens now that they filed some random forms for me. I responded asking what are they going to do about the forms filed and received no response. Negligence on their behalf. I am beyond frustrated. read more

I came to Raymond because of one of my best friend referred me to him and he told that he is the best in the business, i got my taxes done, everything looked great, couple weeks after i got my federal refund, but state refund never came through, about a month after i did my taxes i get a letter in the mail that the refund for the state is wrong and now i owe money to them, i emailed a copy of the letter to Raymond he suggested to just make a copy of my W2 and send it back with the letter, i did. one month passed nothing happened, i emailed Raymond he never emailed me back, 2 months passed nothing happened, i emailed Raymond he never replied, 3 months passed i am still waiting on a reply from Raymond or something from state, nothing happened, after 4 months i emailed Raymond he never replied, called his office spoke to his assistance she said she will give him a note, she also sent an email and she CC me on it too, Raymond never responded back to email that was sent by his own assistance, finally they sent me power of attorney so they can call and get it handled, i signed it and sent it back, i ask them to let me know and update me on process, they never did. after four and half months since the initial letter came in March i get a second letter from the state, says i still owe the balance and now they added a penalty to it and interest charges as well, so i call the office, as usual the assistance can always pass on the message but she cant never make sure that they will get back to me!!!!!!! NOTE: i have never heard back from Raymond since march, no email, no phone call, no sort of communication. ****** He charged me $300 when i did my taxes in feburary but then in may i get another bill for another $300, i called and asked to make sure they erent making a mistake, they said no its a total of $600.00!!!!!!!!***** I gave Raymond the benefit of the doubt way to many times and it just didn't work out. read more

My husband stopped Raymond's tax location. He did not meet with him, however this incompetent. I am not sure why there are so many good reviews in here. It looks like most of them are directed to Raymond and the bad reviews to his staff. I agree with Hanna I. I decided to go with my husband since I wanted to ask the tax person a couple of questions since my husband and I recently open our own business. My husband and I decided to file taxes separately, (thankfully!). When My husband initially went to the place, they asked for money to file an extension since my husband case was a bit more elaborate due to the new business. When I walked in there with my husband, the incompetent guys, who unfortunately did not get his name ask my husband his name about 5 times when we walked in. He says who are you? The receptionist had to remind him my husbands name right after we said it many times. It turns out that he was not able to find my husbands file. As Hanna says, there are a lot of "USPS envelopes with your name written in illegible handwriting" everything unorganized and it makes me wonder how many people had gotten it trouble with the IRS due to an incompetent filing. I tell my husband, get your stuff and go! Unfortunately, the guys had gotten a surgery therefore he was out of the office for a month, so he blamed the missing file into other people. They had moved his stuff and magically my husband file disappear. The best of it is that my husband had the understanding the has file an extension to file his taxes, now we are in May, This unprofessional person did not give him his money back because according to him, we worked for an hr and therefore he kept the money. I had to chime in here after noticing that they had a rating that was so skewed from my experience and the experience of others I know. My real estate agent, Jose Diaz (who happens to be awesome, btw), recommended Raymond Young very very highly. I started with Raymond about 4-5 years ago and he got me out of a hot mess I was in with another tax guy who started my taxes and never finished them and I wasn't able to track him down to finish things up. I did have some of the stuff he was going to file and brought everything over to Raymond's office. Not only did Raymond and his team get me all straightened out, but they found a lot of missing deductions that my prior tax guy missed. Raymond and the whole staff have been consistent in taking care of me over the years. Every staff member has been very nice and very pleasant to work with. This is in contrast to a lot of companies these days where you notice an unhappy apathetic tone in the persons voice who answers the phone. Every time I call Raymond's office, whoever answers always sounds cheerful and eager to please. I know that might sound unusual for an accounting office, but that has been my experience consistently since I started working with Raymond. Also, I have the impression that Raymond eats, breathes, and dreams tax stuff. The guy REALLY knows his stuff inside and out, and it shows! Give Raymond Young CPA a chance to impress you. Raymond has a substantial operation taking up two floors of an office building in Fremont. That certainly would not have happened if they weren't making their clients very happy and creating raving fans. They don't do any marketing that I know of, so all their growth must have come from referrals. I guess I'll do the same... I highly recommend you consider Raymond Young CPA for your tax needs. At the very least, have their office review some past returns to see if they could have done any better. I'm sure you'll be impressed. ps. Raymond is exceptional in his knowledge about tax rules. Like another reviewer had said, Raymond is a walking taxation encyclopedia. Whatever I ask him, he can recite and show me references immediately on where the situation may be applicable. I have hired another reputable CPA in NYC for ten years when I worked on Wall Street, before switching to Raymond as my tax accountant when I moved to the Bay Area in late 2006. The first time I met with Raymond to discuss my tax, within 5 minutes, he spotted an error of my former accountant in calculating Alternative Minimum Tax (which required a manual entry). As a result, he not only got an extra $30K refund for my 2006 tax, but also amended my 2005 tax, which brought in another $34K refund. I had questioned my former accountant on this AMT issue many times, yet he was never aware of this error. Recently I asked Raymond about another long standing tax question on a former partnership investment, which neither my former accountant nor the IRS agents that I called were able to knowledgeably address, yet Raymond was able to immediately cite tax reference on how to correctly handle the case. Despite a previous problem with their walk-in service, I had continued to use H&R Block for services. As Raymond wrote to me, "H&R Block hires many many people, most of whom dont have experience." Since I started a company at the end of last year, I decided I needed to talk to a CPA rather than someone who was hired in to handle the tax season. In a short consulting session in which I had also asked Raymond to prepare this year's return, Raymond discovered that my tax rate for the bulk of my income should have been the capital gains rate rather than regular income. In less than an hour, Raymond saved me tens of thousands of dollars from past returns, but also saved me tens of thousands more for this year! I don't think there are enough stars. PLEASE READ MY REVIEW. I went two years in a row to Raymond Young (NOT meeting with him but other staff members) for my taxes. First year was fine, second was a MESS. Here are some highlights: -The incompetent idiot (Hector Garay) did not include property taxes. I'm NOT a tax person, but I knew something was wrong when we got home after our appointment. It took ME finding what was missing! -We re-met and re-edited our taxes. THEY DID NOT FILE THEM!!! It wasn't until I called the California Franchise Board that we were notified that our taxes were LATE (we filed in March and by May we hadn't received our refund...) -We met again with Raymont and Hector after I learned of the problem. They *magically* had sent the tax information then and there, even though we were now DEFAULT through the state (and I haven't been late on ANYTHING!) Now thanks to them, my credit is affected, and time wasted!! DO NOT GO TO THEM!!!! read more

Raymond is by far one of the worse people I have worked with. I am an engineer by trade, Account Manager in the high tech industry. So I work with a lot of professional people. He is not professional at all. My situation was unique, divorced but filing married jointly for the last time: we had a brief conversation over the phone to discuss that everything will be split 50/50, and that is the reason why I wanted to hire a 3rd party rather than trusting my ex. Then I find out he met with my ex husband several times to discuss the strategy, my ex changed his exemptions to reduce taxes, even thought we are filing jointly, they agreed to separate the withholdings. So my ex gained the benefits of filing jointly and got himself out of the taxes. None of this was discussed with me, and to top it all my ex gets the email a couple of weeks before me and avoids interest charges, I get the email 2 weeks late and no time to review anything. I call him to discuss why, when and how, he replies rudely and with sarcasm every single time, I can hear him huff and puff everytime I ask a question. I could not believe a tax guy can do that, maybe he got paid a little cash on the side. I cannot believe he got positive reviews. If they had a negative star he would get that from me!! read more

I hired Raymond several years ago to prepare my business and personal returns, my decision is still haunting me. Apparently, he prepared the returns and gave me copies but failed to press submit to file them electronically therefore, my returns were never filed. I keep getting notices from the IRS that a return for another year was not filed! So frustrating as I am very organized and do all my paperwork well in advance. Another issue I have is the billing practice, there was a line item on an invoice for "training an employee", really I pay for you to train your employees? Also, everytime something went wrong he blamed someone in the office to me that is the biggest problem, when you own a business errors are your fault! Obviously, I have since moved to another CPA and as soon as my returns are submitted I receive an e-file notification confirming the returns have been filed. read more
