I was given a showing of one of the houses I was most interested in and I fell in love. The gentlemen showing the house had very little information other than what he had done to the place, but he was very nice and easy to talk to. The actual rental agent for the company, Maridee, is another story. She had been rude to me and my fellow roommate applicants the entire time we tried working with her. She made insulting comments, showed impatience and was anything but professional. I come from a customer service background of 10+ years and I was insulted by the attitude I was receiving while I stayed calm and cheery on my end. We were denied by this company and I feel like it was due to an age-ist attitude, thinking because we are in our 20's we can not take proper care of a property. I hope they get the tenants they think are the better fit and are surprised a few months down the road to find a grow in the garage. I'm taking my business elsewhere where people respect hard working and honest tenants and do not judge us by our age.

I had just relocated to Humboldt for work, and Gardens Apts were just being built, and needing a place to live immediately reserved a unit (I'm 56) Overall, the neighbors are friendly; grounds are well kept and clean, and apartments are updated with desirable appliances and large closets. The location is very convienent, and apartment management has been responsive when needed. Negatives are lack of assigned parking spaces, there is one entrance and the parking spaces (non-assigned) are narrow and most of the residents are challenged with parking. Also due to Humboldt's lack of senior resources and housing, many of the residents are at fall risk, and there are frequent incidents of emergency medical visits to the community. Several have advanced dementia and health risks, in need of assisted living.

Here are the "pros" first: good location and access to parking, and the women who run the main office are responsive. The "cons": the walls in the units are so paper-thin, you will not get a good night's sleep. I could hear my neighbor snoring even while I wore ear plugs and had a white noise machine going at full blast. Eating was also a challenge as the smoke alarms in the unit go off constantly. You cannot even cook a frozen pizza in a spotless oven without the alarms going off. Most people want to sleep and eat in their apartment. These basic functions are impossible. If your pilot light goes off, expect to pay Kramer $50 to turn it back on. Or wait weeks for PG&E to fix it. To top it off, when I moved out, I hired a professional cleaning service, but Kramer charged me a $300 cleaning fee anyway. There was no way to counter that, even though my cleaning service took videos of a spotless apartment. Do yourself a favor and find another place. My new rental costs $100 more and does not have any of these problems; it is ten times bigger and includes a yard. Search a little more and you will find something much more functional and comfortable. Avoid Kramer if you can.

For…read moreexample, the tattooed biker who is a second grade teacher, or the little old lady who apparently is a wilderness fire brigade chief? Darus is like that. You expect that he likely spends his time saving vast tracts of rainforest with Sting. Or maybe his full time job is helping the elderly cross the street. You don't expect him to be a property management broker. Darus is always on the ground addressing tenant and landlord concerns with a lot of compassion while remaining fair to everyone involved. Real Property is one of the more exclusive PM companies in Humboldt, so they're not trying to add just any crap property to their inventory. It's rare to find a truly ethical property management company to work with. I would strongly recommend Real Property for either prospective tenants or landlords looking to hand off the headache of management. They have a lot of cool online tools for rental applications, screening, and rental payment, too!

Just got a bill 5 months after our move out, they are billing me for something that they refused to fix during our time renting from them. Be mindful that when dealing with these folks that they have super high turn-over and the right hand often knows little of what the left hand is doing. Henry Hammacher, while I realize this is a new job for you, it may be worth your while to brush up on your customer service a bit. Coming out of left field with a haymaker and a misunderstanding of what really happened in the situation is hardly a good approach. I'd give zero stars if I could. Will not recommend, and this lack of recommendation to my colleages coming into the community is going to sting a bit.

Danco Builders have become the slumlords of Humboldt County. They are so buisy investing in more…read moreand more properties (including the entire town of Manilla) that they are unable to invest manpower or money in up-keeping the properties they are already managing. Their tenants tend to be poor hard working families who can't afford legal aid and have received threats that if anyone is to seek legal aid that "Dan will make their life a living hell." Their properties are built taking as many shortcuts as possible including not insulating walls correctly and in some cases leaving the ground Flores as cement slabs, no padding, no carpets or vinal floors. The apartment spaces they are building are becoming smaller and more cramped. The properties that they have had the longest are in need of repairs but "there is no budget" is the common answer. There are not enough security measures taken. Management is often unreliable or unreachable. The landscapers and maintenance people are spread too thin between all the properties that they have squired over the past few years. The price used to be fair but this year, during covid, they raised the rent by $100 on some properties despite the fact that they are providing less services, the buildings are molding, the garbage containers are unmanageable, parents are not held responsible for their children's actions, vandalism/robbery/and property damage have become a regular daily experience for tenants. Dan seems very hands off and does not hold up the written expectations of how management should behave. They are renting to people who have violence and drug issues. They are not providing a safe trustworthy environment in which to discuss issues. Instead they have started virtual town hall meetings that create animosity between neighbors and between management and tenants. When I first came across one of the properties 20 years ago, it was a beautifully kept property with extremely responsible management and a security guard on sight. The edible landscapes were up-kept and there was enough dumpsters for everyone's refuse. This is no longer the case. Our poor land lady is now managing three properties which is not working out well. There is trash all over the property due to kids, overflowing dumpsters, dumpster divers and homeless dumpster-divers and dwellers that live among the treeline of the property. When witnessing violations of the lease and reporting said offences are dismissed by management. Like smoking on the property, drug use, ignoring curfews, destruction of community property, bullying, unsupervised children, dogs off leash, etc. Moral of the review Danco is not what they used to be ... And they are stretching their employees too thin. Overworked and underpaid. Very dissatisfied with living in these complexes. So much room for improvement! Their investors should be made aware of how their investments are being misspent.

I began my quest to sell the family house of 66 years, and care for my elderly father out of state. I interviewed four agents in Eureka, CA. Only one was able to impress me. She was honest, came prepared with substantive comparative prices and showed a consistent history of selling homes. That was Cheri Champ. Cheri came out within a day to talk with me and worked hand in hand with me on what I should prioritize on cleaning and repairs. She had the perfect set of repair people on speed dial, cleaning people, dump run people, contractors to help fix the antique lath and plaster walls, and more. It was no easy task. It took nearly two months of purging, packing, donating, and repairs. Cheri came by a few times and was impressed with the speed and dedication I showed. Once the moving van pulled out, Cheri had everything completely and perfectly orchestrated; the house was staged, photographed, and a open house within a day. Cheri kept me informed every step of the way. Cheri was always available, is a great listener, never dismissive, provided alternative perspectives, and always provided sound advice, time after time. I would not hesitate to recommend Cheri Champ. She is best.
