There is usually something at the checkout that they are trying to up sell you with, like a travel mug or umbrellas. If you are a regular customer, their point system card is helpful. Once you gather enough points, they issue you a coupon, like $10.00 of your next purchase. I love how I can actually buy evening gowns here off the rack and not need any alterations (albeit only from their petite line). So all you short and slim ladies (e.g. 0P and 2P) who have a hard time finding formal wear that doesn't require paying an arm and a leg for alterations, this is the place for you. Selection is not that great for these very small sizes, but I have purchased many gala dresses here (and a fraction of the regular price). This location also carries a good amount of Joseph Ribkoff, Frank Lyman and Katherine Barclay. Although they usually start at size 8. So great for normal sized people, but not for those wee like me :( I will be the first to admit that many items at Laura/Melanie Lyne are matronly and frumpy, but they also have some more fashionable pieces (although I guess "fashionable" is in the eye of the beholder). They have an interesting selection of brands from Carhart WIP to Harleys of Scotland and back to Raised by Wolves. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I find the availability of luxury items in menswear to be extremely lacking in the Ottawa area, such as at the Rideau center, even at major departments center, such as Nordstrom. This store really has a great atmosphere, and a very relaxed atmosphere. There are a large amount of items, and they are all separated by color, which is a nice touch if you are looking for a specific color, palette and easy to plan a monochromatic look. I will say that the items are definitely more expensive. Expect to see things in a 200 to $500 range.
