You'll pay, start with 5 laps, and a warm-up of jumping jacks, high-knees and so on. Then you'll split into groups of ~6-8 and start the real work-out. The day I went, it consisted of quick weight-lifting intervals done with makeshift equipment -- sand bags, heavy poles, etc. -- and/or body weight. I thought there was a good mix of upper- and lower-body focus. And my heart rate stayed up for most of the hour. Frankly, I thought the exercises could have been more challenging. But given the heat, and dirt, and bugs that come with working out outside, the less-intense level was kind of nice. The instructor offered some encouragement, and engaged with the group to keep us motivated, but also keep the mood light-hearted. There were about an equal number of girls and guys, and the group's fitness level was very diverse. So it's not too intimidating! Parking is kind of a pain-in-the-butt (my car got blocked in behind a few layers of late arrivals), but there's a neighboring lot that I noticed other people were spilling over into, so I'd recommend doing that.

My favorite classes are the extreme outdoor bootcamp and the full throttle class. At bootcamp you get pushed to your limits with burpees, hurdles, tire flipping, and more. Full throttle keeps cardio interesting with intervals the treadmill, row machine, strength exercises and more. I appreciate that it's affordable and you can walk -in without a membership (although they do have a membership option). Although I have a gym membership, I've found myself coming here more often than the gym.

Not only are her choreography and songs are amazing, but the other people that attend her classes are encouraging and friendly. I have been going to these classes for years and I am so happy to get my Latin dance and exercise fix at Erica's classes. The choreography is amazing, the energy fills the room and what I love is that it is a no-frills class in a simple gym for all shapes and sizes. She also does not play traditional Zumba music all the time and I love the mix of hip-hop, Afro beats, Soca and Beyonce. Erica's smile lights up a room and her energy is contagious. She is in demand as an instructor and you can tell form her Zumba Zin tours that she is always on the move. She also teaches cycle classes at Sync Studio and hosts boot camps at E fit 4 life. Erica's mom and close friends run the check-in area and you sign up online at Mind Body. There are deals offered where you can stock up on classes or buy them for $8 each. Erica also has themed birthday dance parties on the last Thursday of the month en special events for Halloween and other holidays. She runs an email list for the 2000 attendees of her classes and sends out announcements via email and Facebook. Erica also does the halftime show at the Charlotte basketball game and has lead dance parades at the Caribbean Festival in Raleigh. I could go on and on but the point it, buy a class, put on your dancing shoes, and get out there and shake and jump and dance your heart out. You will be glad you did.

Because I don't have healthcare this year, I decided to get back into the gym to work on becoming strong again, to lower my blood pressure, and to help with my stress management. When I signed up for my gym membership, Coach Shaw's name was recommended, and I reached out to him to get started. It's been one of the best decisions I've made in recent years. Coach Shaw has gone above and beyond from the very beginning. He helped me establish my goals (which are more about function and health markers); set me up with a meal plan and a training regiment. not only that, but he requires weekly check-ins to go over sleep, water intake, general movement outside of the gym, digestion, supplements, etc. I wanted a trainer who would take a holistic approach, and Coach Shaw embodies that!! It's been a month and I'm feeling so much stronger, my blood pressure is down, my clothes are fitting better, I'm sleeping better. I've been able too prep all my meals and hit all my workouts. My attitude towards my physical health has changed completely under his guidance. In the almost 6 months that we have worked together, I have lost inches where I wanted to and have gained so much strength and endurance. If you are willing to put in the work and listen to his suggestions Lamar will help you reach all of YOUR goals. That's actually one of the first things that impressed me about his training style- he takes the time to listen to what you'd like to accomplish and will use all of his knowledge to propel you forward. Before every session he will take a moment to check in and see how you are feeling that day and will adjust your training accordingly. When you are working, he will adjust your form to make sure no movement is wasted. Oh and did I mention that he never stops his education? This is not some magic quick fix program but rather he will show you how to make lifestyle changes so you can maintain a healthier version of yourself. I cannot recommend his services enough. When you are ready to make real change and commit to yourself come find Lamar. You won't regret it.

You are able to focus on your goals and gain motivation from the rest of the members without feeling like you are alone. But all of this is nothing if the gym, members, and coaches are not approachable and welcoming. That was the first thing I noticed about the gym and haven't looked back. I really enjoyed my time at this gym-every coach was really knowledgeable about the best way to teach the moves, as well as "scale" according to my needs. I was never once judged by a coach or another member for being a beginner to working out and over the course of the 6 weeks I was encouraged to go further in my workout. I really liked going to the early AM classes, because it was a smaller group size and a little quieter. The afternoons/after work are busy, but definitely enough room in the classes that the coach was able to give you individualized attention. If you're looking for a space that is inclusive and supportive, while still learning to be a crossfit warrior, this is for you :)

There are three outstanding things I like about this gym(business). First, they have a variety of times you can take the classes with some classes having child care, so I know this works with membership schedules. Secondly, the assortment of of exercise classes is well thought out and your body never gets use to doing the same thing. Finally, I have met some really nice people, through this experience not only trying to reach my personal goals, but working next to people doing the same helps keep me motivated. Just an add on, you can go to any burn boot camp in the country if you are an active member. Burn may not be for you, but please move your body and mind in some way.

On my quest for summertime fine I've been doing Burn's Raise the Bar Challenge, and even committed to coming 5x a week (every week) --minus a week where I got taken out by a terrible spider bite (no, didn't get any super powers) I've done it. It's a great workout, I highly recommend and they even offer free childcare at most of their classes (so keep the kiddos coming). Did I mention this location has a locker room with showers? This was literally a game changer for my morning routine, there's only 2 but stillllll...g a m e c h a n g e r. Also, TR rocks, he's my favorite trainer there.
