Love that this school promotes and pushes the kids educationally and makes their learning experience fun. This is one of the only schools that have the G.A.T.E. program from my understanding and they have to bus the other kids from neighboring schools to attend. This school is one of the top elementary schools in Bakersfield, from the kids scoring really well academically to the parents playing a huge role being involved with tons of activities and with teachers participating and pushing the kids to be successful. It's a really clean school and the school strives to stay safe and to keep clean. I have had a lot of ups and downs here, my older son is deaf and most of his years attending Stockdale was always positive, but there were a few teachers who you can tell did not want to spend time with a disabled child or "deal" with it. My son was too advanced to be in a mentally challenged class, but not advanced enough to be in a regular class, so he struggled a lot being in a regular course class. On a positive note, there were many teachers that are amazing people and take the time to create an atmosphere where education was extremely important and there were more teachers like that in this school rather than the bad apples here. I have never had any similar situations with my younger son as he is always academically advanced and that part gives me a lot of mixed feelings. I feel like he had a more fair experience because he wasn't disabled and he did not have to have a whole lot of one on one since he was advanced, but I honestly can't judge that part and say that's why he may have had a better experience because people who have a child with a disability always feel shorted by everyone, so maybe it's just me. Both my kids absolutely loved this school and has had a positive experience here for the most part. Both kids had an opportunity to participate in numerous activities (Band, Chorus, Battle of the Books, Math Field Day, Track and many more). Their most memorable moments had to be their last year when they both went to Camp Keep to experience the outdoors science and education. This gave them an opportunity to gain closer relationships with their peers and to learn a little bit of independence. The school has prevented a lot of traffic problems by utilizing their valet in the front of the school or drop offs at the back of the school, the only thing that still bothers me til this day is when parents drop off their kids at the back of the school, the principal/teachers have had this rule about parents parking in the middle of the road and letting their kids out instead of safely parking and letting their kids out. The principal/teachers have had multiple meetings with parents letting them know this is illegal, yet I honestly feel the principal only allows certain parents to still do that, my suggestion is to make sure your child and everyone elses kids are safe. If you plan to allow your kids to attend Stockdale Elementary, I believe your kids will have one of the best educations in Bakersfield for a public school.

I could tell they cared for me. I have a little problem with some staff and the principal and also one specific teacher. I made a lot of friends and everyone was kind to me (almost). Some of the staff that works here are very rude. They like to yell a lot. But that's them working and the kids are quite chaotic. When I was in 4th grade, girls who sighed a paper to go to a meeting to learn about puberty in girls. While we were waiting, I was in a different class since my teacher was working with another event going on. I had forgotten my computer in the classroom and this teacher yelled at me and I started crying. She didn't even care for me but she cared for my project under me that was wet with tears . Another thing that happened was I silently burped and said excuse me and the teacher said there's no burping allowed? I guess in her class we're not allowed to do basic normal human function. I was bullied by one kid too. She'd argue with me and try to make me feel bad about myself because of a hobby I liked. She often barked at me or even tried to trip me. She also gave me really dirty looks. Me and this person never really interacted so I don't know why she was doing that. But other than those problems I had great teachers. They knew when I looked like I have having a bad day and gave me space to calm down. I was with one of the counselors of the school since my mom told the counselors of the school about my problems with Self-harm. Counselor was great and she was caring. The events here were fun too! I also had very good grades and a lot of opportunities to make up for a grade if it was bad. Though there is history in this school about sketchy staff. One was arrested for taking pictures of little girls and had CP. Another one tried to kidnap a kid. But those were long ago and the current staff have not been creepy or sketchy. I loved this school and will forever miss my caring teachers!

So glad my kids are no longer going to the school. The staff in the front are always so rude and…read moremaking negative comments about students by their names out loud. So unprofessional. I don't know if they are part-time or tenured employees but I wouldn't renew their employment. I worry one day the wrong parent is going to hear what they're saying and cause a scene. Looks like nothing has changed here. SHAME!
