Amanda came to my home this week for a home visit. When she came to my door, she told me she was videoing me in case she felt threatened and that her and Shannon had discussed this ahead of time. Huh? I too have this on video, you will hear no rebuttal from Amanda or Remi because this is true. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE READ THE ATTACHED TEXT MESSAGE THREAD. AMANDA CAME TO MY DOOR AND TOLD ME SHE FELT THREATENED BASED ON WHAT WAS IN THE THREAD. THIS LADY CAME TO MY DOOR AND SAID SHE FELT THREATENED. THIS IS THE MOST CONNIVING, IMMORAL AND DISGUSTING ENCOUNTER I HAVE EVER HAD WITH A LANDLORD. PLEASE SHARE A little front story, the front and back steps to the home I live in owned by Coast Guard Master Chief Petty Officer Christopher Cole are unsafe and have been so for years, dating back to the prior tenants. All of the pictures Amanda has taken during her home visits will prove me right, so there will be no rebuttal from Amanda or Remi. Everything about the house is junk and embarrassing for what we pay. Again, don't expect any picture rebuttals. Amanda has said at the last 3 home visits, which take place bi-annually that stair/ railing repairs would be made. That is what led up to my offer to repair in the text exchanges. As of today, the repairs still have not been done. Amanda and Remi have decided that they are going to twist this and make me the bad guy for wanting safe steps. There have been 2 falls now, but no one has gotten hurt yet. The painted kitchen counters are peeling off, the fronts glass door has a busted spring, the mailbox is rotten and falling off, the front fence is entirely rotten, although I retailed it to keep it together, the screen on the back porch still has holes and is hanging out, one back door has a completely rotten sill, the other is rusting through, the knob to the back porch failed and was stuck closed,- I cut it out and replaced it with a brand new knob, the carpet is like a bad joke and has stunk since day 1 and I could keep going. Update: after moving out of the home, a month later they have decided to charge an additional $1,000 to me, some of which is acceptable (trimming shrubs, light bulbs, 3 days of rent, etc.) BUT a $275 dollar cleaning fee to scrub the walls free of smoke soot. I DO NOT SMOKE! The soot that they are referring to was from a prior tenant that heavily smoked in the home and was not taken care of prior to me moving in! It seems to me that this company decided to rent for another year so they could tag their repair costs on the unlucky tenant that happened to need somewhere to live. I wish I had taken photos prior to moving in. DO NOT RENT FROM REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT!!!! Update 2: I searched to try and find photos of the home prior to my move in to show proof that it was dirty prior, but of course they made sure they were all plenty blurred so no one could see the details! REMI has managed our property for close to 15 years and we are nothing but grateful. They do an outstanding job of managing our home. The company has established requirements for renting our home and those requirements are always strait forward and listed contractually. As much as you may see here on the yelp forums; we have never had a negative issue with REMI and trust the folks that work there explicitly. Enthusiastically recommended. read more

Didn't fulfill a number of maintenance requests while I was renting from them, gouged me on the move-out inspection even though I felt I did more than I should have during the move-out process. Wasn't the worst experience, but they don't do much to make it worth renting from them *EDIT* - upon further consideration and remembering that they made me pay to get the carpets cleaned ON TOP of the cleaning fee they took out of my security deposit I have decided this company STINKS. The house was a complete wreck when we moved in, they consistently lost their copy of the house key and took zero urgency to complete any repairs that we submitted to them. Stay away. I completely retract my prior positive review. My husband & I are attorneys and former REMI tenants. REMI appears to routinely engage in unfair/unlawful practices, particularly when it comes to trust accounting of security deposits. They took a blanket, general "cleaning fee" out of our security deposit illegally even though the house was meticulously cleaned and maintained, both by us and by professionals. I won't get into the legal nuts & bolts regarding how landlords cannot legally deduct "routine cleaning costs" or charges for "normal wear and tear," but suffice to say that REMI staffers are not law-abiding, honest people. Such a shame, because I really thought that they were (see my earlier review). One example (of many): We paid for professional carpet cleaning and dropped the check off at REMI's office. REMI delivered payment to the cleaning company. A month later, they hired another cleaning company whose receipt charged for "vacuuming carpets in living room." Problem is, we don't have carpets in the living room. None whatsoever. And even if we did, that would be double-charging for carpet cleaning. The itemized list also showed charges for "cleaning pantry"... except our kitchen didn't have one. The blatant dishonesty is, quite frankly, staggering. Best of all? They initially failed to include an accounting of the cleaning charges with the return of our security deposit as they should have done under law. We actually had to contact them after the 30-day deposit return deadline and request the cleaning receipt ourselves. It was only then that we noticed the inconsistencies. That is just a small example of the level of dishonesty you will get from these folks. I can't even imagine what they try to pull on folks who they deem less educated or resourced. We are now looking to pursue further legal action on principle (not because we particularly care about the money). Fellow Yelpers, educate yourselves. If you're not interested in delving into the statute, then check out this simple, easy-to-read answer to a FAQ from the NC Real Estate Commission website: "Ordinarily, costs for routine cleaning and maintenance (painting, carpet cleaning, etc.) may not be deducted from your security deposit. However, if you leave the property so filthy that unusual or extraordinary measures are necessary to clean or restore the premises, the landlord may deduct the cost of such cleaning from your security deposit." http://www.ncrec.gov/Brochures/Print/tenant.pdf The phrases "so filthy" and "unusual or extraordinary measures" are instructive here. Shannon is a licensed broker and she absolutely knows better. Such a shame, because I used to genuinely appreciate and respect the staff here, thinking they were law-abiding, trustworthy folks. Also, I usually like to give folks a friendly call to see if I can clear up misunderstandings or allow them to make things right before posting public reviews. If only I could choose no stars. Scammers. Had a 1k security deposit on a property as a marine stationed at cherry point. When I moved in previous tenant left tv holes from his mount a grille behind, the back yard was trashed since he left his dog poop and piss everywhere. Nothing but dirt and poop everywhere to include the laundry room. They must have let him poop and pee all over the floor because the door was soaked in yellow pee stains. I redid the whole back yard for the guy laying tiles and planting 60 dollar a piece palm trees for the back yard & my wife scrubbed and cleaned all the piss stains out of the house. A month before I am getting out of the military my landlord decides to get this company to rent through for them to find new tenants before I leave. I told them before I sign anything these are the things that are wrong with the house and they swore they understood everything and when I move out they keep 500 of my 1k deposit saying they need to replace the tv wall when I just used the holes that were already there from the previous tv mount and 100 dollars to throw away a grille. I'll move 100 grilles if it pays $100 dollars a piece, straight joke! If you are renting and it says this company's name on it, keep looking for another house no matter how much you like the house! read more

Stay away from this company! Everything said in prior reviews were almost verbatim to what we experienced. We only received 300 out of the 1650 we deposited, when we were told there were only two minor issues on our final walk through. I have had to contact them through email, since I am currently overseas and they are not providing any proof or clarification to the additional issues they charged us for. Lastly, Tom is not to be trusted. Prior Marine or not, he will give you lip service at the inspection and take everything from you after the fact. read more

Do yourself a favor and never rent thru this company. Anyone I've known that lived in one of their houses has regretted it. When we moved in the house was trashed and they told us that they had someone come clean it. We were charged $75 for the blinds being dusty, yet we left them the way we found them and they knew it. We're also charged $80 for the back yard needing to be raked, yet again it was left the we got them. While we lived there they dragged their feet with anything that needed to be fixed. It took almost 4 months to get the dishwasher repaired, I had mold growing in one of the walls and they didn't believe me so it didn't get fixed until a hurricane came and proved there was a water problem. They have 600 properties and it takes forever to get anything done. Rent thru the owners and save yourself some grief. read more

These people are crooks. They got us 2 rentals and both were nightmares. They do not care who they get to rent your property as long as they can get a commission. Last renter had not paid last month's rent, so there was not any funds for the damages they did to our house. Today I went to look at a rental property they had for a friend. The walls were covered with mold, a 2 bedroom, was really a one bedroom--no closet in one rooms. Molding bathroom, walls, kitchen, a mess and they do not care. The first review by "Tiffanie" seems obviously fake. My experience with the Havelock office was not good and I would not recommend this business. From the beginning, the attitude of Sara in the office was very dismissive. We emailed a few times to schedule a showing of a property. A generic email stating to contact the office with available times was sent back, which was fine. However, when I emailed back with a specific time that worked for us, the response was that same email again, verbatim, telling me "thank you for contacting us, please contact us to set up a time..." After this, we physically went into the office to set up a time and spoke with her again. Same dismissive, and rude tone in person. We were told it would take 24 hours to set up a showing. We knew this which is why we tried to contact ahead of time. 2 more days pass with no communication from them about seeing the property. We went in again and a different woman called to set up a time and there was some miscommunication about the property and a different property was contacted, even though I have email proof sent back to me from Sara telling me that she is able to set up a time at the location we specified. Finally, we went back in for a THIRD time and was told it would be another 24 hours to contact the property (the original one from the email the week before this). At that point we told her we would wait for her to call and she did so with the worst attitude. We were told that we would hear back within 24 hours (see the pattern). Well this was July 8th. It has been about 2 weeks since my original email on July 6 for the specific property and we haven't heard a thing back from the management office. We are obviously trying to find a place to LIVE and are on a timeline. We also did not appreciate Tom arguing with us about what was said in the office. We did see a different property with him previously and we did not like the fact that when we showed up, he did not introduce himself (Literally walked past me into the house.) The rudeness of this office is appalling and they should learn to return phone calls and be more customer service orientated. read more

This company is the WORST! Communication between tenant and owner is appalling and they allow the owners free reign to do whatever they please. One morning I was in the shower and received a call, "the owner will be there later is that ok?" No, it's not.. I'm going to be out of the house... 2 minutes later I hear a knock on the door and it's the owner himself with no representation from the real estate company. I was in a towel and had to cancel plans. When we first moved in, the house had not been properly cleaned and one of the rooms was so gross that it took almost the entire 2 years we lived there to get the smell out. In our move-in inspection the inspector from Real Estate Management had told me I would et a cleaning credit taken from my next rent payment but that never happened. I brought it up every time we were inspected and I never even received a solid answer as to why I did not receive this for cleaning up the owners mess (we were the first remnants) but REMI and the owner definetley made sure they squeezed every penny out of us for every little thing, when we left the house absolutely spotless and with no issues. The home we lived in was in Cherry Branch and was surrounded by pine trees that made keeping up with the pine needles near impossible, the day before we moved out my husband and his brother spent 6 hours raking all the pine needles, I just received my deposit back and they had the nerve to take $75 out for pine needles... This company truly is horrible, they don't care how they do it they just want to get every cent out of you. While they're ripping you off they allow the owners to treat the tenants like crap, we were great tennants, took good care of the house, kept it clean, payed rent on time EVERY month for 2 years and we're still constantly annoyed by the owner an his every whim as he lived RIGHT down the street. What is the point of going through a real estate company when you're going to be showing up at the house in person all the time? If you're moving to the area or just looking for a new rental DO NOT go through this company, they sincerely could not care less about their tennants and make that very clear by the way we were treated. read more

It saddens me how Tom treats current service members, being a former service member himself. The women I've spoken with are very kind and helpful. Tom on the other hand was rude, condescending, and anything it professional. After spending 5 straight days making sure the house was spotless we were told it needed to be "field day". Last I checked no one in that office is active duty nor is it military housing. The carpet hasn't been replaced in over 5 years, and was patched with mismatched carpet throughout. We fixed and replaced things on our own dime the entire length of our lease instead of having "claims". The day before our inspection a former tenant told us a story of Tom walking in for their scheduled inspection and saying "call me when you're ready for an inspection". Come our inspection the next day he did exactly that. It's seems you'll only pass a move out inspection if you spend $300+ to hire THEIR "suggested" cleaners. Completely unfair, unreliable, and unrealistic company. Their expectations for the outdated, dirty, unkept house are unreasonable and unattainable. We were also never notified of what they were taking out so we couldn't counter and attempt to fix the issues. The woman who did our move in inspection also did our 6 month inspection and showed prospective tenants our house. When asked what we needed to fix or clean to pass or move out inspection we were informed our house was great and it looked better than when we moved in. Come to find she is not allowed to do move out inspections so her advice was untrue and false. We mowed the lawn, as was stated in our lease, yet they charged us for lawn care. Nevermind the fact that when we moved in the lawn was about 5 feet high. This company is a farce and doesn't take care of their tenants or their landlords. They're only out for themselves. The worst part about this company, I said it at the beginning of my post, is that Tom is a former service member and it sickens and saddens me he'd treat current service members the way he does. read more

This place is awful. We signed a 24-month lease in order to get the first month free rent. Our move in date was 15 Feb, but the house was disgusting, there were filthy handprints all over the walls, dried mud all over entire floors, black fuzz all over the ceiling from the vents, the main bathroom floor was not stable, paint was peeling all over the house, the water heater and upstairs bathtubs were leaking... so we couldn't move in for another week. Nothing had changed except they mopped the floors. When we moved in, there was a huge hole in the ceiling by the attic door that looked like someone was up there and had fallen through. They fixed that though. They took a rent payment out on 1 March, so I asked about that, and Sara said that it was because Feb was considered our first month, even though we didn't move in until 23 Feb. They also refused to pay to have the pool opened because it wasn't stated in the lease, yet I had a text from the homeowner stating she would pay for it. So Shawna (in Maintenance) made a copy of the texts and they covered the cost. The pool looked like a disgusting murky pond, so nasty it was almost black. When the company cleaned it, it took several days, and we could finally realize that it was a "kit" pool, and the plastic liner was coming apart from the sides and water continuously got under the liner making it was nearly impossible to vacuum because the liner would get sucked into the vacuum. We spent an unreasonable amount of money on chemicals over those 2 years trying to keep the pool clean. At move out, Tom did the inspection and told my husband that it was in awful condition referring to the peeling paint and soggy floors and wobbly toilets, and my husband said, "yeah that's how it was when we moved in and nothing was ever repaired." He said he would have to go look at the move in inspection (which thankfully was MORE THAN 60 PAGES long) before he can assess what damages we'd have to pay. They ended up not charging us for those, but did charge us $300 for cleaning. We would have fought it, since that house was IMMACULATE compared to the condition it was when we moved in, but we just wanted to be the hell rid of that house. The homeowner refused to authorize any repairs, she even raised the rent $50/month on us at move in because she decided to go through the property manager instead of doing it on her own. The only positive thing I can say about that company is that Shawna Hardy was very helpful, as much as she could have been legally. There is a lot more to say about the company, but I think this gets my point across. read more

12/10 would not recommend. The agent never did anything she said she'd do prior to signing a lease. Every time she says she's going to call you back. Don't count on it. Once the lease was signed, I paid the required deposit amount to get a key, along with a $36 convenience fee. When I called for the key, they said I still had a balance, so I paid that, along with ANOTHER $36 fee. Then 3 weeks in, power to the house is cut off. Unannounced. Power in New Bern cannot be restored same day, so I had to rent a hotel to accommodate my family. read more

Do NOT rent from these people. They lied to us about the house they wanted us to rent, trying to get us to sign a lease without first having seen the property. The people who work in the office do not communicate with each other at all, they wanted us to pay more for the deposit than what they put in the lease agreement, and they never came to look at the mildew problem in the bathroom. While living there, we received foreclosure papers for the owner. We took them to the leasing office for them to forward, but then they couldn't get the owners on the phone to find out whether they were bringing the mortgage current, or if the foreclosure was moving forward. We moved as soon as we could after that. read more

Please try not to rent here! They take advantage of military because they know that there are only a few rental companies. They never fix anything you ask them to fix and never return phone calls. We kept getting the same lies that the owner of the house was deployed and couldn't be reached and the wife didn't want to give the go ahead. All we wanted was a screen fixed so we could get fresh air without having mosquitos in our house! We also had other things break and major cockroach problem because the previous owner left the house a mess. I even called the owner of the company and she never returned my calls. Now I see were the staff gets it from. Don't give this company anymore money! I'm trying to get Cherry Point base to put out a warning to the military not to use them. I have to say in our situation, it is not so much the company as it is the home owner. Every time we need something done, I email Brea and within a day, she responds. Often times, she contacts the home owner and he claims a hardship and cannot do repairs. He is a definite slum lord and does not care about his tenants and their needs. We are researching how to break the lease legally and find another place to live. He will not even put a dome cover over the light in the hallway! And..to top it off, he is a Marine. My suggestion to anyone that is considering renting through a management company is to inquire into the homeowner just as much as the homeowner inquires about you. Get references about him/her and find out what kind of home owner/landlord he is. I really don't think the home owner realizes how powerful the social sites are on the internet either. Do not rent from them. We needed a short term rental while we waited for our house to be built. We lived in our rental for just 4 months. The rental we moved into had bugs on the floor, it was noted in the walkthrough (which was a month late-- and ONLY because we ASKED for it) and the girl who did the walk through told us we didn't have to shampoo it when we left because the carpet was a mess. There were also items left in the fridge, etc upon move in. Despite documenting all of this, when we went to move out, they didn't allow us to be at the move out walk through (no notification of when it was), and they charged us almost 500.00 for a (unnecessary) flea treatment, carpet cleaning, and cleaning fee. I personally cleaned the house for 2 days making sure to do EVERYTHING on their checklist. Furthermore, as proior homeowners ourselves (of a house that went from zero to market ready to sold in 10 days), we never missed a rent payment and took excellent care of the home as we did our own. Do not rent from these people, nor let them manage your house (if you are a homeowner). I would give them no stars if I could because they are THAT awful. read more

The move out inspector tom hardy is very rude and disgruntled and got upset for us cleaning our apartment ourselves versus them using our deposit. They rape you for your money in the end. We lived in a home managed be REMI for 4 years. Anytime there was an issue they were prompt, and had the issue resolved as soon as possible. We have had no complaints with this company. If you're a good tenant, and take care of the property, you will not have any issues with this company, which would be the case with any real estate company. read more

we like the house we have rented through REMI, but their customer service is terrible. when i call with an issue they say they will have it taken care of, two weeks later i'll call to follow up and there are no notes from my original request so nothing has been done. then someone will come to the house for an inspection of the issue and i won't hear back from them for 3 weeks so i call to follow up and then have to call again 2 weeks later, then someone tells me i should call the repair person directly. this is the second time we have had the repair person out and no one ever gave me their information to contact directly. it's the run-around every time and it is very frustrating. read more

We trusted they were good people and signed a lease before actually stepping foot in the house. Also after finding the house online for 800/ month they decided to change it to 850/ month once they found we were interested. Like most in this area we are a military family and just wanted to get a house lined up before getting here on orders and these people completely took advantage of that... Couple other points they have only fixed ONE maintenance problem out of probably more than TWELVE. Real Estate Management has been real good to us as tenants, especially Brea. The company does have some faults though. Tiffany never has time for anyone and was not very interested in our needs.
